TVLand Promo

2007-06-22 Thread Marie
who else agrees with me about the "Jail promo? After Laura Ingalls asks
Paw "what's it like in jail?" we should see Barney saying "No more PB
sandwiches, etc" It fits better than "Shakedown!" I don't recall the
image used so maybe they chose "Shakedown!" b/c it was a close up of
Barney or maybe b/c of the length.

Still, the longer speech seems a better choice to me.

Re: Teri Garr

2007-06-22 Thread Doug Gibson
Teri Garr was in the eighth season episode, The Wedding. Goober asks her for a
date to Howard's "bash" at his new "pad. She sits in the car at the filling
station and just stares at him. Goober takes it for a no. I have often wondered
if she had lines that were edited out just before the episode aired, since her
name is listed in the credits.

RE: Barney Being Right

2007-06-22 Thread Sue Doughty

>>So then my thought went to other episodes when Barney was right about
something. >>There must have been others. Does anyone know?

>>Kind behind the eyes

Here are the times I can think of that Barney was right..

In "The Horse Trader", Barney was right when he told Andy that it was
wrong to make up stories about the cannon just to sell it. Andy
listened and then practiced The Golden Rule.

In "Barney and the Governor", Barney was right for 'tagging' the
governor's car. "I'm no good." "You're good, you're good!"

In "The Bank Job", Barney is right when he says that the bank is an easy
target. He gets into trouble proving it, but he is correct.

In "The Shoplifters", Barney is correct in saying that the little old
lady was the shoplifter, even though she only had a Bible in her bag.
Ben didn't believe him until they got outside.

***Ever noticed that there didn't seem to be a bathroom? I know they didn't
want to show a "potty" in the cell, but I can't remember seeing a bathroom

There was a first season episode in which Opie is seen washing up in the
morning, and it's also
one of the few times his mother is mentioned. I never saw it until it was
rerun on TV Land and I
was very surprised.

Andy Griffith, The Unlikely Movie Star...

2007-06-22 Thread zumafan
Just popped up on Yahoo page...

By MARTHA WAGGONER, Associated Press Writer
RALEIGH, N.C. - At age 81, Andy Griffith has been discovered.

Sure, he'll always be known as Sheriff Andy Taylor, the gentle father to son
Opie and gunless lawman in Mayberry who dispensed a homegrown wisdom on
the "The Andy Griffith Show." Or as the disheveled yet shrewd Atlanta defense
lawyer Ben Matlock.

But he's now a new type of star in the critically acclaimed film "Waitress." A
supporting character in a movie starring Keri Russell as Jenna, a top-notch
pie maker trying to leave her brutish husband, Griffith steals the show as the
cranky owner of the diner where she works.

"I'm glad to be back," Griffith said. "I loved working in the film, and I just
thought it was actually wonderful."

The movie was written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, who was found slain in
her Manhattan home office not long after "Waitress" was accepted at the
Sundance Film Festival. Griffith said that Shelly, who also stars in the
film, "knew exactly what she wanted to hear."

"She wanted me to be very firm, and she kept after me to be firm, be firm,"
Griffith said. "I said, 'I'M TRYING.' She said, 'That way.'"

Griffith lives a fiercely private life with wife Cindi in the North Carolina
Outer Banks town of Manteo. Until "Waitress," he hadn't appeared in a live-
action film since 2001. But he said he got three scripts at once and
chose "Waitress" for the quality of Shelly's writing and because Joe "was a
good, pivotal part. Joe means a lot to this film."

Producer Michael Roiff said he and Shelly couldn't believe their good fortune
at landing Griffith for the role. Griffith was on the set for just four days
of the 20-day shoot, but he didn't disappoint.

"We were so excited about the performance he was delivering," Roiff said. "In
the editing room, putting scenes together, she and I would just look at each
other and think, 'How did we get so lucky? Who let this happen in our movie?'

"Literally, on the set and in the editing room, there was a continuous process
of looking at each other and breaking out in that wise, small smile and
realizing we were working with one of the best out there."

Critics agree, with The Wall Street Journal's Joe Morgenstern calling Griffith
an "inspired" casting choice: "An octogenarian who looks his age, and looks
like he's enjoying it, this comic virtuoso is as commanding as ever, but with
a new dimension of restraint."

Equally important to Griffith is the praise of his friends, including Oscar-
winning director Ron Howard, who played Griffith's son, Opie, in "The Andy
Griffith Show" — which airs every day somewhere in the world, Griffith said.

"Ron Howard called me a few mornings ago. He and his wife had seen it and he
wanted to tell me how much he liked it. And he thought I was good in it, too,"
Griffith said. Griffith has been a success on stage for decades, starring in
the Broadway and movie versions of "No Time for Sergeants" and in Elia Kazan's
1957 movie, "A Face in the Crowd," in which Griffith's character, the coarse
Lonesome Rhodes, becomes a television star who mocks his fans off-air.
When "The Andy Griffith Show" ended its eight-year run in 1968, it bowed out
as the No. 1 show in television.

It's a career that's brought Griffith plenty of accolades, including a
Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. But the honor that Griffith mentions
now is the collection of photographs from "Waitress" he received when he
finished filming.

After he spoke his last line, Shelly said, "This is Andy's last shot in the
picture," Griffith recalled. "And there is a picture of her embracing me at
that moment, and it's a wonderful picture. And when she said that, the whole
company started applauding, all up and down the hall. It was like opening
night at 'No Time for Sergeants,' which was a long time ago. That's been 50
years now."

Griffith is still looking for work. Asked when he'll get a part in a Ron
Howard blockbuster, Griffith chuckles again and mentions an earlier phone
conversation with Howard. "And he said, 'Sometime, it will happen.' I look
forward to it when it does happen.

"At least Ronnie still knows that I'm a pretty good actor."

Aunt Bee of Orlando is correct. Everett Greenbaum was the writer who
played a Judge on Matlock..not Harvey Bullock. I mixed up those two
wonderful writers. But I stand by Millie on Matlock--it was not Flora,
or some other blonde. Thanks Aunt Bee for the timing of that answer.
As soon as I saw it, I felt like Barney after he arrested the Hotel

Rare Interview with Mr. Schwump

2007-06-22 Thread Ken Anderson
We have often discussed who Mr. Schwump really is and what he does, etc, so
I managed to track him down and he granted me an exclusive interview. So
hopefully this will finally answer all the question we have had. I always
suspected that he held a position of respect in Mayberry because everyone
referred to him as Mr. Schwump. So perhaps he is a retired teacher,
banker,or other such important person.

Ken: What is your full name?

Mr. Schwump:

Ken: Have you always been so quiet?

Mr. Schwump:

Ken: Just what kind of work did you do?

Mr. Schwump:

Ken: Have you lived in Mayberry all your life?

Mr. Schwump:

Ken: Tell me, Mr. Schwump, are you married?

Mr. Schwump:

Ken: Folks are wondering if you happened to buy your hairpiece from Newton
Monroe?

Mr. Schwump:

Ken: Do you have anything else you would like to say?

Mr. Schwump:

There you have it friends. An exclusive interview with the very quiet,
reticent, and mysterious Mr. Schwump. I should add that he did smile
throughout the entire interview process and was very relaxed.

I doubt it, but Ronny's role as Winthrop Paroo was surely the inspiration

Re: Laura Lee Hobbs courteous service.

2007-06-22 Thread Albert Acevedo
This might be of no concern to anyone but me, but I do want to thank Laura
Lee Hobbs for the courtesy she showed me in the Dime Store the other day.
Laura Lee went out of her way to make sure that I was pleased with my
purchase of a 50 count jacks and ball set that I was buying for my niece.
Where I was quite content to buy the plain gray colored jacks, Laura Lee
suggested that the multi-colored jacks might be a nicer choice.
And you know what? She was right as can be! Quite a site to see my niece
with her friends playing with her colored jacks. (I never knew kids could
get so excited over "foursies" and "fivesies")
Thank you, Laura Lee Hobbs. Thank you very much.

It just goes to show you that with Laura Lee Hobbs and the Dime Store -
"Quality Goes Hand in Hand"!
