re: TVLand

2008-03-27 Thread dudleygl
I've felt for a long time that TV Land is looking for a younger audience,
with Class Reunion and The Big 40 it looks like maybe mid 30 to 40 yr.

I'm so tired of all those commercials for Class Reunion that I want to go up
an alley and holler FISH!

danny thomas show

2008-03-27 Thread Robert Fink
Does anyone know where I can pay for, beg, borrow,or steal a copy of the
pilot episode of the Andy Grifrith show. The one that was on the Danny
Thomas show? Also the first episode of the Mayberry RFD show where Andy
and Helen are married?
Also, thanks to whoever put up the you tube video of the pilot show with
Andy holding court about the rented suit. It was great.

Help thanks.

A message from the Mayor

2008-03-27 Thread weenie man

My beloved folk of Mayberry.I am so glad to be back in our fair little town
after a long deserved vacation from working hard for you dear people. It seems
that Andrew and Deputy Fife have kept our little town in good order as usual.

I am hearing rumors that past mayor Pike is wanting a recount of the last
primary. I assure you that this is only a ploy to try to corrupt the vote.

Glad to be back!

Me too Sam! It is truly amazing to me how a channel can go down the tubes so
fast. I try to have a live and let live philosophy, but I have no desire to
know what a lesbian from high school 20 years ago is doing now, or any of
the other numerous people on this show. I know way more about the show than
I care to.

MTV and VH1 came out with additional channels as their target audience aged.
Perhaps TVLand or another company will debut a new channel with the older
shows again.

I have been postponing ordering the TAGS DVD sets, but no longer. I would
also like to start ordering some DVDs from other great TV shows of the past
(Lucy, TV westerns, etc). Does anyone have any suggestions for quality web
sites to order from?

Who's coming to dinner

2008-03-27 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
I don't think the Governor was invited for a meal at Andy's house.
Nor was Thomas A. Moody, the guest of honor who ended being named Davis.
Tracy Crawford the accused bank robber did not get the dinner ticket,
and I don't think Mr. Dave the hobo was invited to dinner - only hedge
trimming. Then there was Newton Monroe, the lady speeder, and
Emmett's brother in law. (I think)

Now Neil you're an attorney right? So you listened to the rules in the
beginning??? Right?
The question had the qualification No prisoners and I added no
policemen.

Newton Monroe, the Lady Speeder and I think Tracy Crawford were all
prisoners...so they don't count (though Aunt Bee probably fixed them
prison food)
You're right about the others.
Emmett's Bro-in-Law falls into the category, we noted yesterday--hosted
by another family in Mayberry, such as Otis, Peggy, Thelma Lou.
Governor??--one passed through quickly, the other had lady fingers and
shrimp cocktail fixed by Aunt Bee and others.
Good Noticing!! (but check the court records ;)

If'n you go to to any compound interest calculator (eg
http://www.moneychimp.com/calculator/compound_interest_calculator.htm - and
it's a god machine), put in $100, 0 annual addition, and 8.5% interest, you
do indeed get that amount.

Aunt Bee's Glasses

2008-03-27 Thread hyperauntjan1
I don't think I ever saw Aunt Bee wear reading glasses either - even when she
and Clara were repairing mildewed band uniforms.

Maybe she just stopped wearing them around other people. As wonderful as she
was, she did have a little vanity in her.

I don't need to pay Doc Andrews $5 to tell me how old I am - and I'm not that
old!

(There was also the blond wig episode.)

Hey- how many people in Mayberry wore glasses? I remember the Silby's that were
being evicted except Sam ( is that his name? ) couldn't read the eviction
notice because Andy lifted his glasses as a strategy to buy time to help the
Silby's.

Aunt Bee's glasses, war bond and Halron P. Spruggs

2008-03-27 Thread King of Mayberry
In addition to Mayberry Goes Bankrupt episode, Aunt Bee also wore her reading
glasses in The Ball Game episode where she and Opie are reading the article
Howard wrote in the newspaper.

For you math types out there, you calculate the value of Frank Myers' war bond
for yourself as follows:

$100 x (1.085)^100 = $349,119.27. That is 1.085 raised to the 100th power.

Now here's some juicy trivia that should challenge even trained noticers out
there. Who can name a scene or episode where the name Halron P. Spruggs is
mentioned or seen?

Mr. Schwamp, Halron's pal

Those of us who chart the course of world events shall forever remain
nameless -- last words of Bernard P. Fife on TAGS
