TAGS, The Olympics, and Michael Phelps

2008-08-18 Thread ishah513
Well, TAGS has?made a splash?in?the Olympics, and has been found swimming
with?the greatest Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps.

"Someone once called him "The Baltimore Bullet" for the way he resembles a
projectile through the water. But his teammates call him "Gomer" because he
reminds them of Gomer Pyle.
And -- su-prise! su-prise! su-prise! -- he strode onto the tiled pool deck for
this morning's race (at 10 a.m. China time for prime-time back in the States)
looking relaxed."

Wonder if Michael Phelps trains?by wearing a bucket on his head! :)

mayberry trivia night

2008-08-18 Thread Cheri Litton
Hey my fellow Mayberrians- This Saturday night I am hosting a Mayberry Trivia
Night out at our local campground.  We camp out there a lot, so I thought why
not do something that I have a passion for.  I will be serving ice cold
rootbeer in glass bottles and funnel cakes.  Also going to give everyone a
slice of Cashew Fudge to take home, wrapped in orange and blue ribbons.  I have
never done anything like this so it will be trial and error.  Although I will
be there just to give everyone a laugh or two and enjoy it myself.  will let
you know how it goes.  Remember, you can spread alittle Mayberry around to
places too, and  I'm sure you all have.  God Bless-

Saw Mayor Stoner on an episode of Father Knows Best. He was playing a friend
of a friend. He was sounding more like his Chester Character from the
Gunsmoke radio show tho. I like him better that way. He was always a little

Parley Baer was a beloved character actor all through radio and television.
On radio he also originated the role of Eb in the short-lived 1950 radio
comedy "Granby's Green Acres," which inspired the TV version 15 years later.
Eb
was portrayed as being a little older than the one on the TV show. Baer
often told stories about how he rushed across town, taking taxis throughout
New
York to appear on four live radio shows in a single day. Up until his death
he came to many old time radio conventions and unlike his Mayor Stoner
persona, he was said to be very nice and very warm and loved to tell stories.

When he died, the two TV roles that got mentioned were Mayberry mayor, and
Ozzie & Harriet's next door neighbor. But I'll always remember him as the
bureaucrat whose life keeps getting upset, perhaps even ruined, on "The Addams
Family." He was such a perfect foil for them.

favorite season

2008-08-18 Thread mary cook
I love all the seasons i have the 8 season dvd set. But i really have enjoyed
the later seasons with Goober and Emmett and Howard what a 3 some they were
really funny. A nd They added alot of comedy, when Howard went bowling was
funny, they were all always arguing but were still the best of friends. I
really loved it. I have enjoyed those episodes more and more through the years.
It was teragic when don knotts left i feel that it took those 3 people to make
the comedy funny again and they did a great jobI heard some where that the
8th season was the highest ratings of all.. Is this true?? I wonder also did
more people by 1968-69 have tv's?? maybe in the early years not as many
americans had tv's yet in their homes.. could this be a possibility???    Mary

The Haunted Mansion

2008-08-18 Thread Paul Mulik
My favorite attraction at Walt Disney World has always been The Haunted
Mansion. We spent the last week there, and we rode it three times.
After we got home I did some research on this attraction, and was surprised to
learn that in 1969, Disney produced an LP based on this ride. In the story on
the record, two teenagers named Mike and Karen visit the mansion. Mike's voice
is that of Ronny Howard, who was 15 at the time. Karen's voice was performed
by Robie Lester, who did the singing for Eva Gabor's characters in The
Aristocats and The Rescuers; she also did Jessica's voice in Santa Claus is
Coming to Town.
(digression alert): On this record, the voice of Madame Leota was performed by
Eleanor Audley, who played the female villains in both Cinderella and Sleeping
Beauty. She never appeared on TAGS, but she had prominent roles on many 1960s
sitcoms, most notably as Oliver's mother on Green Acres. The narrator is Thurl
Ravenscroft; he also sings the "Grim Grinning Ghosts" song (as well as "You're
a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" in How the Grinch Stole Christmas). His deep bass
voice can also be heard in many Disney films, but he will always be most famous
for performing the voice of Tony the Tiger in fifty years' worth of Frosted
Flakes commercials.
(further digression alert): The original voice of Tony the Tiger was Dallas
McKennon, who did many Disney voices, and also played sculptor Brian Jackson in
the TAGS episode "The Statue." Whew! I finally got back on topic.
Anyway, you can listen to this album here:

If you listen to this in the dark, it's rather frightening! Those of you old
enough to remember listening to scary radio programs can attest to the fact
that radio was MUCH scarier than TV could ever be.

2008-08-18 Thread Doug Gibson
I love all the seasons and I've thought hard about this ... I say Season 5 is
the best. The show was in its stride with full character development.
After that seasons 4, 3, 2, 7, 8, 6 and 1 and favorite episode "Man in a Hurry"
but TAGS is the best TV show ever.

Good questions Peggy

2008-08-18 Thread Kim Heiden
1. Goober and Flora ever got married? In my mind they did and enjoyed
spending time with Gomer and Lou Ann.
2. When Andy and Helen moved back to Mayberry, they were able to buy the
Williams house? The white one with all the big trees? If I remember
correctly, Opie was living in the house he grew up in, otherwise I'd think
the Williams house would be great - if they got the plumbing fixed.

3. Since Otis got sober, he might have started the first AA meetings in
Mayberry in the basement of the church? And they added a pool table to give
those recovering a new hobby.

4. That Gomer made a career of the Marines? Possibly, then he and Lou Ann
retired in Mayberry (everyone just has to come back to Mayberry)

5. Any of the Darling boys ever found a wife? One of them married Idel
Bushy (although Charlene wasn't thrilled about it).

6. The Widow Saunders finally married the dish towel salesman? For sure!

7. The Morrison sisters built another still? They spent their remaining
years trying to perfect a flower growing machine.

8. They still need a brine tester at the pickel factory? After Otis, no one
could compare.

9. Malcolm retired and settled in Mayberry? Of course!
10. Barn got his den with his leather couch and books and a dog? But more
importantly, he got Thelma Lou.

Mayberry Sighting

2008-08-18 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Was watching a episode of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer from 1958.  This was
the one starring Darren McGavin not Stacy Keach.  There was a young lady in the
show that Mike was trying to help with her drug problem.  She looked an awful
lot like Jenny Boone.  Did anyone else see this show?  I was just wondering if
it was her.
