Thanks for posting the video of Russell Hyatt. I've had several Russell Hiatt
haircuts now, and its always great. Once I went four extra weeks without a
haircut because I knew I was going to Mt. Airy and I did not want to miss the
chance to get "the works..."? This is usually the highlight of my trips to Mt.
Airy He gave my daughter a free T-shirt and my wife a free coffee mug..

1961 Mayberry Squad

2009-01-30 Thread Scheuermann Funeral Home
Just to clear things up about the 1961 Ford Galaxy and 1961 Ford Fairlane.

I thought the same thing before I bought my 1961 Fairlane. But, after I watched
the 1/2 block parade in "The Guitar Player Returns" I realized the car I
purchased
was exactly the same as that on that episode, a stripped down Fairlane.

During that year (1961), Ford made the body of the Galaxy and the Fairlane
exactly the same.

That was the only year they did that. So technically, it's the same body for
both vehicles.

I found this out when trying to find parts for my 1961 Fairlane/Galaxy.

Lots of luck to you and yours,

Dave Scheuermann

Talking about all these look alikes in Mayberry.
The really amazing thing is how much Mr. Schwump looks just like my wife.

re: 1961 Squad Car

2009-01-30 Thread Rusk, Thomas E SFC RET
Not to belabor the point, but in doing some research on Mayberry cars and
checking with some "experts" it seems most authentic Mayberry cars were
"Custom" not necessarily "Galaxie 500's" although there are a lot of replica
Galaxie 500 cars around. The Ford Galaxie was not manufactured until 1962 so
the 1960 & '61 TV cars could have actually been Fairlane 500's. In looking
closely at the episode "Andy and the Woman Speeder" in Season Two, the 1961
vechicle doesn't have any distinguishing body style markings.

Anyway, as long as it's a 4-door Ford 1960-1968 with the proper markings (black
& white, sheriffs logos, police light, etc.) it's close enough for most Mayberry
fans.

Tom Rusk

P.S. I bought the 1961 that was on ebay. It's in excellent shape with only
46,000 miles on it. I'm thrilled! See ya around the bend!
