Answer to Trivia Question
Thanks to all who guessed at my trivia question. The answer was of course, our own Ronnie Howard. He co-starred in TAGS the last season in 1968 when the show finished #1. He was then a star of "Happy Days" which finished as the #1 overall show in 1977. I did a through search of all the #1 shows in the 60 year history of television, and Ron Howard is the only person who fits the criteria. There were several that were close, like Lucille Ball, who had the #1 show in the 50's, I Love Lucy, and then finished as high as #2 in the 60's with the Lucy Show. But Opie is the only one who made it to #1 twice. To everyone who is interested in old time television and what shows finished #1, here is the link I used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_network_television_schedules. Orville Hendricks - Peddling Butter and Eggs. Martha has told me several times that I am always #1 with her. That is the important thing. _ The New Busy is not the too busy. Quiet Sam - How did Barney get there?
How did Barney get out to Quiet Sam's farm? This is an excellent question and I think I've figured it out based on one of the "contradictions" that appear in our hometown from time to time. We all know that Barney bought his first car in Season Three from Hubcaps Lesh, but if you look at the epilogue of the Runaway Kid episode in Season One, Andy and Opie plan to push Barney's car in front of the fire hydrant. So apparently Barney had a car before the one that he bought. This would have been the car that he used to get out to Quiet Sam's farm. I like to think that the car in the first season was passed down to Barney, maybe given to him after an emotional striking of a match on his dad's rock. In Season 3 the car that Barney gets from Mrs. Lesh is the first car that Barney actually purchases for himself. Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Trivia Question
Concerning the trivia question about which show was the #2 rated show for the 1969 season, and was then cancelled, the answer is of course our old friend Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Fred Silverman was the head of CBS at the time, and he was eventually responsible for the cancellation of all the shows that reflected the values of middle America. The biggest name on the list for all of us was Mayberry RFD. But he also axed The Beverly Hillibillies, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, and Hee Haw. All of these shows were successful at the time, but did not appeal to viewers in the big cities. I would say not much has changed in 40 years. Television still does not seem to reflect the values of middle America. It is almost impossible to find a family show on network television, or even a show where there is a married mother and father. So sad. Times have changed for the worse. Orville Hendricks - The Butter and Egg Man. Martha says she and I will be together forever. Trivia
Top Ten for their final season on the air. We all know "The Andy Griffith Show" finished #1 for its final season, a feat shared only by "I Love Lucy" and "Seinfeld." The year TAGS wrapped up (1967-68), so did the #2 show on television ("The Lucy Show"; Lucy and Gale Gordon returned the following season in a new series playing new characters, "Here's Lucy"). A year later (1968-69), the #2 show that season also wrapped. Can you guess the show? Dixon A very good trivia question.one I could not have answered without "cheating" by using the Internet. The answer is Gomer Pyle, USMC. And I do believe Ron Howard was the answer to your other questionco-starring in TAGS and starring in Happy Days, ten years apart and both ending their seasons #1 for the year. I don't know about the rest of you, but I liked the way our little Opie grew up to be Richie Cunningham. Ron Howard MADE him into a good character. RE: Quiet Sam - How did Barney get there?
Even though Barn is allergic to horses, he might've borrowed one from the very place that he and Andy got on in "Divorce, Mountain Style." Maybe he, Floyd, and the others rode a bunch of horses in a posse. Over and Under, Clyde "Barn" ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
TAGS episode and fighting against carps
Andy is in the barber shop terrifying a reporter w/ his story about hanging a carp from a tree limb...and in a great coincidence, I read an article yesterday about ppl. living at the Great Lakes fighting to get rid of carp that have invaded their lakes. I hope they get rid of those carp, and the pikes, come to think of it. Those are some mean, bad-tempered fish!! ; ) Y'all have a Mayberry Day!! Lisa _ Hotmail has tools for the New Busy. Alumni and catchphrase
A few days ago I saw Cheerio Meredith(Emma Watson/Brand on an episode of Bonanza. She played an Irish lady with a very good Irish accent. After that,an episode of Daniel Boone came on.One of the characters said to another "we gotta' nip this in the bud".That quip got me to wondering.Who is actually credited with first uttering this popular catchphrase?I know Barney is most associated with any form of "bud nipping".TAGS was on TV four years before The Daniel Boone Show aired. Just wondering if anyone said it before Ol' Barn. Dewey in NC _ The New Busy think 9 to 5 is a cute idea.
