Carnival goings on

2010-08-22 Thread Maurine Taylor
The carnival that came to the fair in the county where I grew up had some of
those dancing "beauties."  Admittance to the tent was adults only.  And to
ensure that only paying customers saw the show, they spread cow manure on the
ground where the bottom of the tent fell.  I know this because a guy from my
school got the "bright" idea that he could see the show by laying on the ground
on his back and lift up the curtain.  He didn't stay long enough to see much,
but he got up with manure all over his back.

The sheriff's office had "plain clothes" deputies patrolling the carnival.
This was the sixties, but "plain clothes" meant suits in July with straw sailor
hats and canes that could be used to catch fleeing bad guys.  They didn't fool
anyone, but that was kind of the idea.

Schwamp & Otis

2010-08-22 Thread Janet Anderson
>>>The first episode where I saw Mr. Schwump wearing glasses, was in the episode
where Warren teaches Otis about mosaic art.<<<

Silvia, this is off your point, but reading your post reminded me of my visit
last week to the Indiana State Fair. While in one building, my mom and I were
viewing the paintings on display. On one wall was a mosaic of a pig. Of
course, I immediately thought of Otis's cow mosaic. (I think this one of the
pig was a little better than Otis's artwork.) Then when leaving the building,
I saw an older gentleman seated on a bench. I noticed his nice, full head of
hair, which looked a bit artificial. Naturally, my mind went to Mr. Schwamp.
It's funny how many little things in everyday life make me think of TAGS--and I
don't even have to tryl!

question marks

2010-08-22 Thread jlj9675
I think I may have solved the situation where question marks seem to
suddenly appear in the text of typed messages. The question mark key is
right next to the shift key so perhaps when pressing that key to capitalize
at the beginning of a new sentence, the least little bit of your baby finger
is hitting it. It could also be floating down there when preparing to hit
Enter to space down too. If your keyboard is one of those with the keys real
close together like on my laptop, it is even more of a challenge. My home
computer keyboard is spaced further apart and I highly recommend it.

re mayberry fight song

2010-08-22 Thread michael morris

Hi everyone in tags land. After reading all the posts about the Mayberry Union
High fight song it made my think about the 30 year reunion show. In the show
Barney, Howard Sprague, and Goober sang the song only it was Mayberry Central
High. I have the show on video tape, does anyone remember that?

Green River Ordiance

2010-08-22 Thread Teresa
One of the regulations for canoeing the Green River in NC is that no alcohol
or glass containers are permitted on the river. It's a state law. I guess
you might even call it the Green River Ordinance.

I wondered what was the Green River Ordiance. Here, we had in the forties a
Green River Ordiance, and it was a manufacturing plant of some sort during the
1940's.

I firmly believe that in every situation, no matter how difficult, God extends
grace greater than the hardship, and strength and peace of mind that can lead
us to a place higher than where we were before.
-Andy Griffith

I am glad that you put that up there, Vivian.

"Spread a Little Sunshine" is the song that I think Barney and Andy sang
together the best. We did not have songs like this up north. I do remember
"There is a Fountain."
