George Foley

2011-01-22 Thread (Ted) Theodoric of York
I was watching the George Foley (Tex) episode yesterday and have a
question. Why did Andy get upset with Opie about telling him his
friends pushed his car in front of the fire hydrant? Surely the bond
between son and father is more than between Opie and his hooligan
friends.

In Otis Sues the County Mary Pleasance and Dixie Belle Edwards are hunting
black bear in the Great Dismal Swamp.
In Goober Makes History Goober borrows Andy's shotgun to go hunting and he
tells Andy that maybe he'll get a bear.
In Otis the Deputy Otis tells Andy and Howard that he seen some guys with
shotguns up near the Carson Shack and that there ain't nothing worth hunting up
there except some skinny ol' squirrels.

Observation of the pageant and names

2011-01-22 Thread jgrit1
I watched the Pageant recently. That teh episode about the Centennial, and
Aunt Bee trying out for Lady Mayberry. Just some rambling thoughts here.

There were a few times when Aunt Bee had to go to Play practice, that Andy just
seemed to be kicking back at home. Why wasn't he, as James Merriweather
going to play practice as well. Perhaps they were just working on certain
scenes, but he doesn't seem the type not to be there to support.

Did John Masters ever deliver bad news? He chickened out and had Andy tell
Barney when he was a lousy singer, and he had Andy do the same thing when Aunt
Bee was a lousy actress. For a guy so worried about his reputation in the
norther part of th state, he was a bit spineless.

If the script of Happy Valley was true..whetever happened to the Indian
reservation, and Nugatuck's family?? All we hear about after that is one Native
American at election time.

I find it interesting that just a few days ago, I made fun of my own name
(Gritton) with my post about the Grit and then there was a little moulage
about the name Crump and Ken's piece that I found very witty and harmless. We
can all be like Barney at times and be high-spirited but we goota watch that
vein poppin out of our neck, when we take things too seriously. I agree that
the name Crump, was conjured up by the writers to make Andy think of a teacher
who might be somewhat repulsive. Miss Crump then showed by her physical
appearance, and manner, that you can't judge a person by their name. She, if
fact, brought a certain grace and dignity to the name Crump C_R_U_M_P. I
agree, though, that we need to respect the names of real people. We've all
probably been teased about something, and a name is something every deserves
repsct for.

Explanation

2011-01-22 Thread Ken Anderson
I would just like to say I am sorry if I unintentionally offended anyone
with my recent posting about Helen Crump. I certainly did not mean to imply
that I was making fun of any person's name. I was simply doing a play on
words of the fictitious Crump name. It is interesting that the name
Anderson was referred to as I have a story to share about my name. When I
was teaching third grade there was a second grade teacher just down the hall
from me with the last name of Anders. He was about 30 years younger than I
was at the time. Whenever we would meet each other in the hallway, he would
say Hi Son and I would answer with Hi Dad. One day the kids asked us
how he could be my dad when he was so much younger than I was. So I asked
them what his name was and they answered Mr. Anders. Then I would say,
Well, who am I? They of course would say, You are Mr. Anderson. And I
would follow with, Yes, you see, I am Mr. Anders' son. It took a few of
these for the kids to finally catch on and when they did, they they really
laughed. Then after that when they would see Mr. Anders somewhere they
would say to me, Mr. Anderson, there goes your dad. This became a
standing joke at school until I retired. Even some of the parents got in on
it. So again, folks, I was just trying to have a little innocent fun with
Miss Crump.
