Dress
I loved reading about the dress. I heartily agree about the shabbiness in public today. I have been a high school music teacher for 34 years. Every school day I am very happy to say that I have worn a tie. The first week it is a suit and then coordinates. Winter time, a sweater accompany my shirt, tie and dress pants. Spring, the coordinates. When our band gives concerts or goes to dinner and concerts, the students dress to the nines. Including real TIE up bow ties. ( not clip ons or ready tied like Barney, sorry Barn). My male students learned much faster than me how to tie one! The young ladies are dressed up in a classy manner but with modesty. And these teenagers love to dress up! On a recent band trip to Cleveland, one student brought four suits. One for each day! But the best part is when total strangers compliment me on their dress. I thank them and then ask if they could kindly tell the students themselves. A great feeling to see the band members graciously accept their compliments. But, I don 't dress like Malcolm Merriweather or Ward Cleaver at home. Neither do my students. It is so nice to see this dress on TAGS and to pass it on to the youngins'. Better to be overdressed than under. Just ask Barney as was noted when he dropped over at supper time. " I haven't even figured out what I'm going to wear tonight." Didn't fool Malcolm! Watched an episode last night with Fred Goss in it. Ashes all over but wearing a suit. " It pays to look your best!" My observations. Thanks for reading. Re: Otis' suit and tie
Harriet: I am was born during the late 1960's but I absolutely LOVE the elegance of the time of Donna Reed, Jim Anderson, Ward and June Cleaver, Andy and Bee Taylor. I love watching movies like "White Christmas" that have the women dressed so beautifully and the men looking very dapper. I, too, totally hate seeing youth of today with their pants down around their knees and holding them up while their underwear is gleaming white. I abhor the young women who think it's totally acceptable to show their undergarments for the whole world to see. Bring back those properly dressed people to the small screen! I miss them so! Thank you. Karen "my darling person" Pearson ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
ladies gloves
Speaking of being well dressed, I remember when my mother, grandmother, great aunt, and quite a few other ladies around town, wore white gloves. In fact, as a little girl, I had a pair of white gloves. Watching TAGS, I believe I have seen Thelma Lou, Aunt Bee, Helen, Sharon Despain, and others wear white gloves. Probably Clara Edwards, too. Any others I am missing? Bee In New Concord, OH Brenda J. Coat and Tie
If you go all the way back to when Ken Anderson was young, we dressed up for football games. Guys would wear coat and tie. The ladies would wear their high heels and furs (ones not bought from Newton Monroe). dan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Thanksgiving Dinner
I have been sitting here trying to remember if there was an episode that showed a Thanksgiving dinner set up like what they did with Ben Weaver at Christmas. I can't recollect one right now though. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks to you and yours in advance. Ol' Sam Steve Cullman, Alabama ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Otis the Glue Dipper
I have often wondered about Otis' constant state of inebriation on the weekends. I suspect that some of it might be from sniffing all those glue fumes while at work. Mixing glue and moonshine is no laughing matter. Mixing those fumes can be mighty dangerous. -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.themayberryguru.com www.mayberryreflections.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
More Mayberry Days Photos
I have updated the Mayberry Days website with additional photos from the Surry Arts Council. This collection is from Kenny Hooker, another member of the SAC Photography Club. Lots of good memories to look through if it is cold and dreary outside in your neck of Old Man Kelsey's Woods. http://www.surryarts.org/mayberrydays/mdphotos2013.html I will also throw out a teaser for a NEW show during Mayberry Days - details coming very soon.
