Ron Howard
Regarding the Ron Howard appearance in Greensboro, Ann, I will not be able to be there, but if I did make it I think I would like to ask Ron Howard if he had any regrets about getting involved in politics in 2008. Our little Opie has done so many wonderful things, not only while on TAGS, but even all the later marvelous movies he has directed. In my opinion, not a clunker in the bunch. But also, in my opinion, I do not think he should have ever gotten involved in politics. There have so many examples over the years of Hollywood types getting involved in politics turning out badly, that we could have seen this coming. At any rate, anyone going to the gathering, tell Opie hi from all of his long time friends and admirers. Alumni Sightings
Over the weekend on The Rifleman Miss Peggy (Joanna Moore) showed up as the wife of a journalist. Then when watching an early 60's episode of Gunsmoke on YouTube our favorite barber (Howard MacNear) showed up as a store owner. I guess he lost his medical license, ha ha! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Double Episodes
> Has anyone else noticed 2 episodes that are nearly identical? I've often thought it strange they had two class reunions that would chronologically clash as the years don't match. Harriet, the chicken thief, hiding out in Kelsey's Woods, USA Johnny Paul Jason says chewing tar is good for the teeth..That's an old wives taleJohnny Paul ain't married. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Identical episodes
>>>Has anyone else noticed 2 episodes [Barney and the Choir and The Pageant] >>>that are nearly identical? Orville Hendricks >>> Interesting observation. In both cases, John Masters is mounting a production and a key performer drops out, then he quite stupidly gives the part to someone else without even bothering to have them audition, and then makes Andy fix his mess. And while I'm on the subject, why in the world did he send to New York for an arrangement of Santa Lucia which featured a tenor soloist, when he knew Barney was the only tenor in the choir? But I digress. There are episodes of Gomer Pyle – USMC which are basically identical to TAGS episodes, but with Sergeant Carter fulfilling the "father figure" role that Andy often had to assume when helping Barney out of a jam. In one, Gomer is tricked into "proposing marriage" to a girl, who then threatens to sue for breach of promise, and in another episode, Gomer makes a pest of himself after Sergeant Carter "saves his life." They even used the same ending, with the rigged leaky gas stove. It's too bad Harvey Bullock is no longer with us. It would have been great to be able to pick his brain with regard to what appears to be outright plagiarism. Or maybe we did ask him years and years ago, and I've forgotten what he had to say. Aunt Bee's Car
I also watched an episode of Mayberry RFD titled "The Mynah Bird" that has sparked a Facebook conversation initiated by a person who is currently housing Aunt Bee's car. I thought I recognized the car in the episode, so I goobered, uh, I mean googled some information about it (http://www.studebaker-info.org/Auntbea/auntbeastude.html). Sure enough, I'm convinced that was indeed her car on the screen. RE: Double Episodes
I watched a Mayberry RFD episode last night called "Millie, the Secretary." It's almost identical to "Aunt Bee Takes a Job." Some of the same actors were in both episodes (such as Herbie Faye).
