Guitar Feedin'

2007-10-28 Thread Albert Acevedo

How many guitars did Jimmy Lindsey have to feed? Was it three?
Now Jimmy is great, and he was lucky to have hooked up w/Bobby Fleet. (and in
turn, Fleet was lucky to have Jimmy join his band)
...but if Jimmy had joined Keevy Hazelton's group, then Jimmy could have
increased his guitar family and fed them very well, and never worry about the
repo man snagging his auto.
Keevy Hazelton w/Jim Lindsey on lead guitar playing on the Ed Sullivan Show?
I'd expect no less on a Sunday night.

Woulda' been nice! Real nice!!, says Gomer.

Mrs Wiley's socials -

2007-09-18 Thread Albert Acevedo
I talked to Mrs Wiley the other day and got the go-ahead for Ferdie to play
his accordion at her next social. At first Mrs Wiley hemmed and hawed, but
when I tossed in a free case of fizzy drinks, it was an offer she couldn't
refuse!
So now I'm off to Foley's to get a case of Nectarine Crush and Ferdie is
enroute to the Dime Store to get some accordion polish and a new tie clip.

Re: Metal Lunchboxes.

2007-09-03 Thread Albert Acevedo
My first one was a yellow Mickey Mouse schoolbus lunchbox. Rounded on the
top where the Thermos went.
Second one (a couple of years later) was a square shaped Beverly Hillbillies
lunchbox. Had embossed scenes of the characters on the front and back. Both
of these metal lunchboxes were pretty rugged, and the Thermos bottles too
(with proper care and handling by the user) Not me though... Sloppy care and
use by me resulted in their breakage. The sound when the Thermos bottle
broke was unmistakable. krih! :(
(bananas and extra nibbles then took the place of the unusable busted
Thermos')

Re: Judy's Wax Paper sammiches

2007-08-27 Thread Albert Acevedo
As a lunch box carrying kid back in the early 60's, I remember lots of times
when mom wrapped my sandwiches in waxed paper. Baggies brand sandwich bags
replaced waxed paper after awhile, but waxed paper never disappeared from
our household.
Baggies were okay and nifty, but waxed paper had a certain charm and purity
and seemed to make mom's sandwiches taste a whole lot better. ZipLock and
bags from Glad that had sliding closures, I don't recollect at all from my
elementary school days.

- another HOT day in Mayberry

2007-08-15 Thread Albert Acevedo
Whooie! Temperatures up - air all swampy and sticky - heated opinions flying
every which way on the big Mayoral race
Only one thing to do -- grab a handful of change, put on a broad-brimmed
strawhat, and hoof it on down to Wally's Fillin' Station for an afternoon of
icy pop drinking! I can't think of a better way to while away a hot lazy
day than to swig pop, swap tall tales, and to count the number of dings as
Gomer pumps gas.
Come sundown, maybe go to the diner and have some chicken croquettes for
supper. I know, I know... Opie says they're terrible, but smother them with
catsup and they ain't too bad then.

Mayberry intenerary/vacation -

2007-06-11 Thread Albert Acevedo
Gee if I only had an hour (or couple of hours) to spend in Mayberry, it
would all be spent at Wally's. Drinking pop while sitting on the bench...
listening to Gomer spin yarns about this and that to customers sounds
pretty good to me! Now if I had a weekend to spend that's another
matter altogether. I'd start out my weekend first at Floyd's (naturally) and
get the works! Then it's off to Morelli's and from there... who knows? I'd
work my way back to town and take it from there. Probably end my vacation
with a lemon phosphate from the diner...
Whoops! Almost forgot. I'd pick up the latest Keevy Hazelton and Jim
Lindsey recordings from Weaver's Dept Store record racks! (Maybe some Bobby
Fleet 8-track tapes, too.) Cool!!

Recycling Elixir Bottles -

California redemption value on Colonel Harvey Indian Elixir bottles is .04
cents each! I always do my part to keep the Earth green by recycling all my

Re: What I noticed in the color episodes- (Marie/Allan)

2007-01-16 Thread Albert Acevedo
Sorta' the way I always looked at it w/Andy's vocal complaints involving
Aunt Bee, was that he was anticipating the problems to be had if Aunt Bee
went ahead and did the things she wanted to do. He could use more tact and
diplomacy, but whining and no-no'ing Bee seems to be a natural thing that
Andy would do. (afterall... Aunt Bee is headstrong at times, and entrenches
herself into a way of thinking that's hard to dislodge her from)
Now on Keevy and the song: It looked to me that Andy was bent about having
Keevy over because he knew Bee and Clara would drag out an otherwise quiet
evening by them working on Keevy to get him to record their song. It also
put Andy in an awkward position... him being the sheriff and his own
relative was trying to push her song onto an established star. Andy
probably figured that My Hometown, although good, was strictly small-town
stuff and that all of Aunt Bee's / Clara's efforts would be for naught. Andy
couldn't possibly envision the deluxe treatment that the song would be given
as the final version.
A classic TAGS episode!
(I like the fast version better, but the sound quality and flavor on the
slow one reigns supreme!!)

2006-11-15 Thread Albert Acevedo

more Mayberry Monopoly -

2006-11-14 Thread Albert Acevedo
Definitely one of the utilities spaces needs to be the Telephone Exchange.
(naturally we need a candlestick phone token!)
... and Park Place/Boardwalk can be Mt Pilot and Raleigh, respectively.
(being that they are big-city properties)

Also, don't forget a Chance card reading : You have just won a free
pounded steak dinner at Morelli's! Collect $10.00

Long live the WBMUTBB!

2006-11-10 Thread Albert Acevedo
Hi, everybody! I got all WBMUTBB'd up back in mid April 2005, so that makes
me a bit of a newbie.
But my love of TAGS has been going on since the 1960's, so that makes me an
oldie! When I first got my electronal marvel and hooked 'er up, the
WBMUTBB was the very first club/group (thing sounds too impersonal) that I
signed up to be a member of. And every day when I get my Digest, I am
reminded of what a good idea it was to join up and be part of a group of
great people.
In the cyber world of looking at things, I guess you could say that the
WBMUTBB/Digest is My Hometown.

Sincerely -
A.A. Acevedo MPk, Ca.

Making a Good Impression at Morelli's --

2006-11-06 Thread Albert Acevedo
I got me a brand new blue suit and striped tie from Weaver's the other day.
Even bought a new pair of wingtips, too. Sharp! After I get the works
from Floyd's, I was gonna go out to Morelli's on Saturday night to let loose
a little.
Question: In the event that I can't finish my pounded steak a'la Morelli,
would it be considered a social faux pas to ask for a doggie bag? After
all, in a place as upscale and big city as Morelli's, I do not want to
appear as if I just fell off a turnip truck.

Morelli's - Fine Dining and Dancing - reservations recommended on weekends
- free parking.

Emmett's Fix-It Shop --

2006-10-31 Thread Albert Acevedo
I just wanted to say thanks to Emmett's Fix-It Shop for the quality
Hamilton-Beach ice crusher I bought from him the other day. My old Frosty
the Snowman sno-cone maker gave out on me and when I took it to Emmett's, he
said it was beyond repair. Emmett gave me a real good price on a
refurbished ice crusher and now I'm making quality sno-cones like never
before!!
Toasters, waffle irons, blenders and mixers
... Emmett's Fix-It Shop is the place to go for all my repair and used
applicance needs!

Miracle Salve Gifts!

2006-10-30 Thread Albert Acevedo
I've been thinking of giving my friends Miracle Salve this upcoming holiday
season. I found it to be the perect gift. Treats and heals burns, cuts,
cures mange, and loosens rusty nuts n' bolts. I also found that if you
place a wick inside a tin of Miracle Salve, it makes a fine burning candle,
too! No point in giving stale old Chia Pets when you can give something
real neat like Miracle Salve!Question: Miss Laura Lee Hobbs, does the
Mayberry Five and Dime carry this product, and can it be bought by the tub?

(more) Lunch Counter

2006-07-26 Thread Albert Acevedo
I remember in my youth that the local J.J. Newberry's had a little lunch
counter. Thinking back, this small lunch counter was cute as a button with
it's red leather circular stools and a complete condiment rack for every
seat. Cold sandwiches, hamburgers, coffee and malts The ladies behind
the counter wore beige uniforms and white aprons. I felt like a real big
shot the first time I hopped up on the stool to order a chocolate malt (I
was seven at the time). Ahh... the good ol' days!!

Ken Anderson's Otis Campbell

2006-06-26 Thread Albert Acevedo
I would like to thank Ken for talking about Otis and for sharing his
personal experiences involving his Dad. I have noticed over the past
several months, many posts by Ken which are not only enjoyable, but very
deep and I find myself reading them over and over again.
That's what makes this Digest so wonderful. That folks, friends and TAGS
fans can talk about, not only our beloved Mayberry, but the happy and sad
occurrences within our own lives.

Mayberry and this Digest has indeed brought a lot of us closer together.

Thanks Ken for sharing! (and thanks Allan for this Digest!)

Mr. Jeff Krentz

My sincere condolences go out to the Krentz family for the loss of their
dearly beloved Jeff.
Although I did not know Mr. Krentz personally, I certainly did enjoy Jeff's
writing style and his contributions to this Digest. Jeff Krentz's BigHead

make this Digest what it is --- great.

End of the Week, Final Thoughts.

2006-03-02 Thread Albert Acevedo
It was real nice reading all the beautiful tributes and memories that folks
posted in the various Don Knotts guestbooks and memorial archives for the
past week. Touched me deep to read how Don was loved by so many people all
over the globe and what Don meant to them.
Don Barney Knotts will always be a special guy and I will never forget the
warmth and happiness that he has brought me over the years. Call the man??

RE: John's - Dub Taylor

2006-02-08 Thread Albert Acevedo
Dub Taylor always did a great job in the characters he portrayed in
television and motion pictures.
As Billy Ray / Talbot, (I always thought they were one in the same) Dub was
the classic small town postman. Just the right amount of salt an' grit in
him made a Dub Taylor role -- a memorable role!
