James Best
On the subject of James Best, if you haven't read his book, "Best in Hollywood" you should try to get it. It's one of the best I've read on "old Hollywood" and is real interesting. I'm sure you can find it on line and he sells it on his website too. http://www.jamesbest.com/ ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Subject: Squad Car Featured
Hi Ken, Great news on the Squad Car. Keep us posted as to where and when. Maybe I'll drive up and visit the "old girl" although it might be like Barney meeting Thelma Lou and her new husband at the class reunion. It may make me sad but I could end up with another car that attracts my attention. Bob ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
another monk story
After reading Joe's monk story I just had to tell mine; a young man joined a monastery and was only allowed to say 2 words every ten years. after the first 10 they called him in and told him how well he had done and he could now say his 2 words. he said "foods cold" and he couldn't speak for another 10. after another successful 10 years they called him in and said that he had been there 20 years and had again kept his vow for another 10. He was allowed to speak and said "beds hard" and couldn't speak for another 10 years. after another successful 10 years he was called in and told that he had now been with them for 30 years and had kept his vow for another 10 years. He was allowed to speak and said " I quit!" to which they replied, "we're not surprised, all you've done is complain since you got here" Bob in Illinois ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Andy movie
I'm sure most of you are aware of this but somehow I had never heard a word about it. I watched a 2009 Andy Griffith Movie on Netflix last night titled Play The Game. It had a lot of adult humor but Andy was just great even though a little out of character. The few of you who haven't seen it should check it out. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Ken Anderson 102
Ken, I took the car to a nursing home last summer and it was in the upper 90's. The activity director almost canceled but decided we would bring out the residents one at a time to have their picture taken as they were so looking forward to it. I was pushing one women back up the ramp and she shook her head and said "102". I told her I didn't think it was that hot out and she said with an irritated look " no, I'm 102" I was telling a guy at a car show a couple of weeks later about it and it turned out to be his aunt. He had just visited her and had seen the picture so he made sure to stop and talk to me. So, I think the record still stands but is sure to be broken as people live longer and Andy and the gang continues to be on the air. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Marines
To Mike Haviland, Don't sign up under the buddy system. My son and his best friend went in about 10 years ago and tried to do that. Luckily the recruiter discouraged them. He told them they could go in at the same time and train at the same place but if they officially went in under the buddy system the drill instructor would make them hold hands for 12 weeks. I didn't ask, he didn't tell ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Mayberry Squad Car
Thanks to everyone who asked about my squad car. Ebay has nothing on our little digest. I feel so fortunate that someone like Ken Anderson ended up with it. Knowing that he will share it with the kids as well as folks in the long term care faculties is great. Taking it to car shows was fun but making the day a little brighter for the folks at the nursing homes was special. I'll miss the car but know it's found a good home. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up with another one someday. If so maybe Ken and I can have our own squad car rendezvous at the Taylor Home B&B. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Mayberry Sheriffs Car
Hi Folks, I'm considering offering my 65 Galaxie Mayberry Car for sale. I do a few car shows with it along with an occasional parade. I've had the most fun taking it to nursing homes. It's not one of the high dollar cars but is automatic with power steering and still get a ton of positive comments when I have it out. I would rather see a Mayberry fan have it rather then someone buying for resale. It runs great but I have another project in mind and would like to explore finding a good home for it. If someone wants more information e-mail me or call my cell at 309-368-4735. I'm in West Central Illinois. Thanks! Squa Car information
Thanks to everyone who answered my question last week about the squad cars. I knew this was the place to ask. I appreciate it! I sold my 1963 Galaxie about two months ago and bought an old jeep. After my first car show without the Mayberry car I realized I enjoyed sitting around and watching the people smile as they approached the car. You could tell it brought back a lot of memories. So, with a real bad case of Mayberry withdrawl I went in search of another one. I found a nice 1965 only about 75 miles from home and picked it up this week. I had seen it on the Mayberry.com web site at the replica car link so I was somewhat familiar with it. I'm already scheduled to take it to a couple of nursing homes to show the residents so I'm again looking forward to the rest of summer. Thanks again everyone. Squad Car info
Okay folks, I'm sure someone here will know this. I'm trying to get a definitive answer on how may different models and years were the Sheriffs Car on the show. I always thought they had a new model every year and they were all Galaxies. I was watching the 6th season and see a Ford Custom. Also, was there a model 1960 through 1968 or did they have some on for more then one season? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!! Mt. Airy News
Hi Folks, I don't write often but always enjoy reading your comments. I was just watching the episode from the fifth season with the butter and egg man. When Aunt Bee told Andy she had a date he looked up from his paper and you could clearly read Airy News as the name of the paper rather then the Mayberry Gazette.. You didn't see the "Mount" because the paper was folded. It was just the first time that I noticed it and I was wondering if anyone else had. Have a great day!!! Iowa & Illinois members
Hi folks, It's getting close to spring and I'm always looking for weekend events to drive my 63 Mayberry Sheriff's Car. If anyone hears of a parade, car show, festival, ect in Illinois, Iowa or maybe Western Indiana drop me an e-mail. With the red light and antique plates I'm only allowed to drive to "events" per Illinois laws so I'm always looking for a reason to get it out. I'm in Galesburg Illinois which is about 40 miles west of Peoria in Central Illinois so if you're fairly close and just want to see the car or take pictures that's fine too. Thanks and I hope to hear from a few of you. Bob DeWitt ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Hi Folks, This is the first time I've written here but have been reading for a couple of years. I found a Don Knotts tribute that I thought you might like to see.
