Location of the fishing hole

Has anyone been to Franklin Canyon State Park in Beverly Hills and seen the
location of the opening scene of the show? Can anyone describe exactly where it

looks just like the opening credits but I'm just not sure. Since that is the
only original filming location that still exists, it's hallowed ground!

Betty Lynn

2012-04-22 Thread Randy
Just returned from a nice weekend in Mt. Airy, NC. Got to meet and speak with
Betty Lynn at the Andy Griffith Museum on Friday. She is the sweetest lady!
Very friendly. Still has that "Thelma Lou" smile. There were probably 40 people
or so in line, she took the time to speak with every one, sign autographs and
have photos made. I mentioned to her that she is the first person I have met
who was in a movie with Betty Davis. She laughed and told me how nice Betty
Davis was and mentioned that she also got to work with Maureen O'Hara, Robert
Montgomery, Fred McMurray and others. That was a memorable few minutes for this

Re: Writer's blips

Subject: writer's blips

"Has anyone else noticed how very controlling Helen could be and that
Andy let her get away with it? I've been watching some color episodes
that I taped recently and found this disturbing as I feel it is out of
character for Andy. When she was first introduced to the show she was
rather a humble, lady-like woman. However, even tho Andy should've been
more forthright, in the episode where he had to confer with the lady
attorney in Raleigh, she is downright nasty and not the least bit
mindful about embarrassing Lee Drake and then very snide at the end.
Again, in the episode where she wants to get Howard and the new nurse
together, she is flat-out demanding and mean to Andy till he caves in.
And why didn't she reveal her scrape with the law in Kansas City to Andy
before he had to inadvertently discover it for himself? I feel these
instances were poor mistakes made by the writers fumbling for new
storylines.  Just my two cents worth.

Aunt Bee of Orlando"
I agree. Helen is my least favorite character on the show. She is not very
"Mayberry-like". Have you read the book "Andy and Don"? It appears that in real
life Andy allowed himself to be dominated by demanding women, including Aneta
Coursaut.

To spank or not to spank

2006-11-28 Thread Randy Davis

Val,
I am a dedicated TAGS member and have even discussed this episode
with my 2 kids (b-15, g-11). I will, at this time, only spank them if they
tell a lie. Otherwise, I take favorites or privileges away when they
misbehave. This has worked really well with my 2 children. Keep in mind,
before I spank them I allow myself a cooling off period (10-30 minutes)
before I dish out the punishment. This way I don't spank them in anger. It's
interesting to note that my son and a few of his buddies have watched this
episode and they all commented that there parents would have done the same
thing. That's my take on this. Have a Mayberry Day.

Randy "Rafe Hollister" Davis

   1. Sensitive Topic: To Spank or Not To Spank? ([EMAIL PROTECTED])

Hi Fellow Mayberrians!

Tonight I was watching an episode where Opie's new friend was so used to
having his way, and as a result, he usually got what he wanted from his old
man. He then taught Opie what to say and how to act up in order to get his
way. But, of course, Andy didn't fall for it. By now you know the episode,
right?

The little boy disobeys the law by riding his bike on the sidewalk even
after Barney told him not to do it again. after he disobeyed again, Both
Barney and Andy decide to take the bike away from the kid.

Later in the show, the little boy's father shows up to get the bike back
from Andy. To the little boy's surprise, the father decides to take Andy's
advice and take the little boy out to the woodshed and give him a spanking.

How do you feel about this? Of course, I do understand that most of us
really love the TAGS so much, but in today's society we may not always
agree with certain things they did back then.

I am a newbe here at TAGSRC, so if this has been discussed before or if you
are too sensitive about this, please do not respond. Not looking for a
debate, just a simple opinion.

Greetings my fellow Mayberrians,
I introduced my son & daughter to TAGS several years ago. We sit and
watch the DVD's all of the time. They gave me season 2 for Fathers Day. Now
I have Seasons 1 - 5. I'll be getting season 6 for my birthday. It's also
interesting to note that when my teenage son has friends over that they
always tend to migrate towards the great room and watch TAGS. It's so
refreshing to him them laugh at Barney antics. I usually hear the comment

Rafe

I didn't mean cause a big milange. I just wondered if anybody else had noticed.
I wanted to make sure, so last night I pulled out my brand new boxed set of
DVD's and played that part over and over until I came to the conclusion that
Rafe was really saying, "Hal, that's me!" I don't know what "hal" means. It
could be a contraction of "huh well" with a little Mayberry twang. I'm sure it
was not anything naughty, though. We all know that's just not possible in
Mayberry. That would be just "crude talk" as Gomer would say. And besides, if
Rafe had used a bad word, his face would have become colored like in that movie
"Pleasantville."

Rafe Hollister expletive?

2006-02-07 Thread Randy Moffett
In the episode "Rafe Hollister Sings", has anyone besides me ever noticed the
word that Rafe uses when he tells Andy that he is the prisoner that Andy says
was released without getting his new suit of clothes? It sounds awfully close
to "_ell, that's me!" I think I hear an "H", though. Growing up, I used to hear
people begin a sentence with " ell " as in " Ell let's go." They probably used
" ell" instead of "well." But I don't think that's what Rafe said. It's not
offensive but I was wondering why it wasn't censored in 1963.

Re: Funniest Episode

2006-01-17 Thread Randy Moffett
One candidate for funniest eoisode has to be "Opie's Charity". Opie gets off a
lot off funny lines when he and Andy are talking about poor Horatio the half a
boy. And the scene with Andy and Tom Silby at the cemetery talking about Tom's
funeral is hilarious too. Any episode with Gomer probably ties for first place
though.
I think the funniest instant in any episode was when Andy drove away on
Barney's new motorcycle and the camera cuts to Barney sitting in the sidecar by
the curb with all the old timers rolling on the sidewalk and doubled over in
laughter. I envy people who see that for the first time.

Who would you date in Mayberry

2012-02-03 Thread Randy Davis
A tough question to answer. I borrowed Gomer's bucket to give it a think and
here's what I came up with. I think I would have asked Miss Peggy out. I would
take her on a picnic to Myer's lake. There we could paddle around in a canoe or
row boat and relax. We'd have to find a remote spot of course to keep Barney
from inter loping with us. Afterwards we would take a quiet walk in town and
maybe get a cup of coffee at the diner. From there I'd walk Peggy home and
serenade her with a few songs while I played the guitar. Maybe if I was lucky
we'd hold hands and if I was really lucky I'd get a kiss on the cheek before
leaving to go home. Hm what a night

Subject: Dial Telephones

The subject of dial phones and party lines touches my heart. My mother was a
telphone operator
in the small town of Linton Indiana for many years. As a child I remember
picking up the phone
hoping to here my mother on the other end say number please. There was
sometimes more than
one operator on duty so I didn't always get her. I remember her telling me not
to do that. But I know
she liked it when I did. I haven't lived there for many years but this small
town will always be my Mayberry
and I go back there as often as I can. I was looking through an old 1959
yearbook and saw the number of
the local dry cleaners thr phone number was 5. It was in the ealry 60s when
automation put dials on our
phones and closed our local telephone office forcing us to move to a larger
town that still had operators. to
this day Linton is my hometown my Mayberry. My name is Randy, but one close
friend calls me Range.
Not the open prairie, but a take off on what Barney called andy at times Ange.

The Nickel Thief

2013-07-08 Thread Randy McFarland
Hodie Snitch was the bully that kept Andy from fishing his favorate spot as a
kid. Andy used this story to convince Opie that
there are other things that can hurt worse than a punch in the nose. This gave
Opie the courage to tie into Sheldon the
nickel thief like a whirlwind in a tornado.

By the way Giraffes are selfish.

Today in Mayberry History

2017-01-17 Thread Randy Turner

Hello, fellow Mayberry fans!

I post on the digest so rarely it's ridiculous, but Allan Newsome thought
sharing this information would be welcome here.

I am one of the Co-Goobers of a TAGSRWC chapter called The Gomer and Goober
Pyle Comic Book Literary Guild. We have a Facebook group page at
https://www.facebook.com/groups/112052725537029/ which you are invited to join.
If you are not on Facebook, if you send your email to me at
turnersgr...@gmail.com I will send you a daily email with a link to information
I know you will enjoy.

And what information is that? I started daily posts on January 1 called "Today
in Mayberry History" that provide information every day that relate
specifically to that date, a feat I have challenged myself to do every day of
2017! If you listen to Allan's Two Chairs, No Waiting podcast you may already
be familiar with the posts. In fact, I am now serving as a "special
correspondent" on the podcast with weekly reports of a similar nature.

So please join our Facebook group or send me an email if you think you would
enjoy the posts! Here is a link to the first one I posted if you want to see
what the posts are like before signing up.

Marines Hymn

2010-11-10 Thread Randy and Paula Linn
The school where I work part time is hosting an assembly tomorrow for
area Veterans. The high school band and choir will be performing patriotic
selections as a part of the assembly. I was rehearsing with the high school
choir yesterday and a portion of one of the songs they are singing includes
a part of the Marines Hymn. When I am at school working with the students,
I take my job very seriously. However, as they started singing the words of
the Marines Hymn, my mind immediately wandered to TAGS and the episode where
Gomer marches into the courthouse singing the Marines Hymn to Andy. I
couldn't help but smile. Later, I explained to the choir director the
reason for my smile and she too thought it was funny. I think what makes me
smile the most about Gomer's singing is the way he says "Montazumer".
