Props
Members, I'm looking for some help. My "darling person" bought a "prop" from the show on e-bay. I'm not sure who the seller was, but the prop is as follows: A small hand-carved decoy, about half the size of a regular decoy. It is stained in brown with small class eyes. It appears to be a small swan. It supposedly sat on one of the coffee tables in the Taylor living room in the later color episodes. I have not been able to spot it. If anyone see's that, or knows which episodes it appeared in, could you let me know through the digest. Thanks. Bard and Andy (oops)
Sorry, I hit the send button accidentally. Anyway, as a procurer of useless trivia, I thought it was fascinating that the guitar that Andy used on the show was the same guitar that he had carried in "A Face in the Crowd" movie. He mentions in the video with Brad that it was originally black, and that he very carefully sanded it down, then had it refinished and used it on TAGS. He said it was never played in the movie. Low and behold, when Brad visited Andy's house, he saw the guitar, and played a few sons on it too. Restoration question
Members, I have a beautiful drawing that I did of Don Knotts, and he signed it back in 1996. Little did I know at the time that the signature would fade if exposed to certain kinds of light over time. While it's still visible, it is very faint. Does anyone know of a way to restore that signature? I'm thinking there isn't a way, but thought I would check. Thanks. Morgantown
Bob, It's Morgantown, West Virginia. It was mentioned on the episode that Jerry VanDyke guest starred on. He was supposedly from there. Also, it's a little known fact that Jean Carson is also from Morgantown. The Twighlight Zone marathon
Members, Speaking of The Twighlight Zone marathon, did anyone see the episode with Opie, circa 1959? I have to admit that I don't watch a lot of those, so I don't know what the episode title was, but a man had come to a small town and fell in love with it, and suddenly realized he had apparently gone back in time and was seeing himself as a child, along with his parents and such. Ron Howard played a small boy in the town and had a dialogue with him. It might have been called "Walking Distance." I saw another episode with Floyd, Lester Skoby, and Ed Sawyer. Not sure on that name, but very interesting. Rod Sadler Mayberry Michigan Chapter, TAGSRWC "No thanks Leon." - Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Christmas in Connecticut
Members, While doing a little research on Mr Schwamp, I discovered that there are three Mayberry alumni in the movie Christmas in Connecticut. If we can prove it is in fact Mr Schwamp in the movie, that would be four alumni from TAGS. Walter Baldwin, who appeared as Floyd in the first season of TAGS, played Sheriff Potter, however was uncredited in the movie. John Dehner, who played the medicine man who sold Aunt Bee her elixer on TAGS, played a state trooper, and was also uncredited. Finally, our first Mayberry Mayor, Dick Elliot appeared in the movie also. Just some Mayberry trivia for you to file away. Rod Sadler Mayberry Michigan Chapter, TAGSRWC - Never miss a thing. Josef Meredith
Members, After reading the recent post regarding the obituary of Josef Meredith and having it list him as being the son Cheerio Meredith, I thought I would do a little undercover work to confirm it. I checked www.findagrave.com and found Cheerio's listing. Then I began reading some of the memorial posts that visitors leave. During July of 2007, there are a few posts to Cheerio that mention Josef's passing. By all accounts, I have "deduced" that the Cheerio Meredith listed in the obituary is in fact our beloved Emma. It also has a photo of her headstone, which has that mystery inscription. If you haven't visited www.findagrave.com, you should. It's very interesting and they even have "posthumous" reunions from different shows. Rod Sadler Mayberry Michigan Chapter, TAGSRWC - Never miss a thing. Mayberry, the real city on the edge of forever
Members, I was wondering if anyone has a list of the all the different shows that used downtown Mayberry at some point in filming. I know that Star Trek, Superman, Batman, and The Green Hornet all lay claim to visiting Mayberry at some point. I also saw June Lockhart in Mayberry for an episode of Lassie , and I did see a few minutes of the last movie ever filmed there (Switchblade Sisters..horrible, horrible movie). Just curious. A New Mayberry Project
Hello all, Last year, Santa brought an electric train set for my six year old. This year, as I'm contemplating decorating around it with some sort of small village and such (HO scale), I got to looking through the Walthers catalogue and discovered several small pieces that, with just a little tweaking, could be made into Mayberry. There are even some automobiles (including 1967 galaxie patrol cars) and figurines. One set in particular caught my eye, and that was a 1950's car being pushed by two people, one of those pushing with their backside (just like when Barn's first car broke down). I saw a deputy that looked like Barney too, and he was putting the collar on two youngsters. I'm thinking seriously about creating Mayberry in HO scale. Has anyone out there ever attempted this, and if so, how did it come out? If your considering a project like this, you might check out the Walthers website. I believe it is www.walthers.com . Barney's hat
Greetings everyone, I happened to be in a uniform store the other day and you are not going to believe what I foundyou are just not going to believe it. Go on, guess. I came across a cache of old, Mayberry police hats. Yes, its true. They are identical to Barney's. I took everything they had, which was only about a dozen. I've always wanted one to add to my collection. I'll have to eventually get a badge made for the front, but rest assured, these are the real thing. I would like to make the remaining stock available to WBMUTBB chapter members. Again, there were only about a dozen in varying sizes, but what a collectible to put on a shelf. If anyone is interested in possibly purchasing one from me, please contact me off-line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I will forward you a picture first so you can see it. Lots'a luck to you and yers.... Hogan connection
For Mark, the actor was Larry Hovis, who after the first episode, received a recurring role as Sgt. Andrew Carter. He was Gilly on TAGS in the episode where Goober takes a car apart and puts it in the courthouse. And if I'm not mistaken, the first episode of Hogans Heroes was directed by Howard Morris, our own Ernest T. (RIP). He directed a total of fourteen Hogans Heroes episodes, including the pilot, which was in black and white. And don't forget Col. Crittenden, our favorite Malcolm Merrriweather, played by Bernard Fox.
