Weather and such
I too feel for the loss of ones home. Mine went to mold while i was taking care of my parents. I lost alot of Star Trek, Andy, and Laura Ingalls Wilder things from mold. And, like Paul has said there is no price for the memories. And, many like Hawthorne Village items are gonna be hard to find. My heart and prayers to you all. I find that the show brings me loads of comfort now. We are all family on this site and when one hurts we all hurt. Btw Hope Summers was so wonderful on Andy but was wonderful on Rifleman, who features almost every day Mayberry Pre-Alumini. Happy and blessed Easter! Mama
Hello I know i have pretty quiet for awhile. Mama has been pretty sick. She had a great Christmas and new year. I even told her she was the best of 11 and would be the best of 12. After new year's. She declined fast, and Thursday went to sleep and woke up in heaven. She loved Andy Griffith and her soaps. I will miss her so much. Thank you all for keeping the show alive and here's to 2012. Christmas
Hello everyone I want to wish you and yourins a merry christmas and happy new year. My mama made it through christmas and we are so blessed. She had so many presents that there was little room for her! She laughed so much she set the alarms off on her vent. This christmas was a blessing. We watched the andy christmas show together and she wore daddy's mayberry sheriff badge for the day (he got it for christmas several years before he passed away). I think barney's eyes were brown and like others think, he used baby blues as an expression. Mayberry RFD was the spinoff fron tags and starred ken berry. It doesn't hurt to review things every so often. Alan congrats on the new web site and our chapter will be signing up. This and that
I am so glad to see many back on the newsletter. I always look forward to it everyday. I am also very glad to see our family newsletter make it to year 20. Even more so that Lloyd Nolan has made it to 97. I remember a few days ago we were discussing the bookcase in the sheriff's office getting the glass broken. It had three shelves. I remember theglas getting broken on various occassions. Once with a sling shot, once with Barney shooting , i think, and Virgil. Those come to mind. There are more i am sure. I know at the end of the series there was no glass on the bookcase. Also, why on earth has there not been Mayberry RFD on dvd? It would be so great to have that in my collection. It is similiar with Rifleman. While there are collections out, no dvd by season, yet. Hope Summers was an alumni of Rifleman, leaving to go to the Andy Griffith Show. Next saturday is Quilt Days at Ramsey House in knoxville. I will be giving tours of the house and beautiful quilts will be on display. While it's not andy it's still neat to visit. Squad car, badge, pistol
That had to beeb a sad day to have to put the car in storage. But, think of that great spring day when you go get it. As for the badge having 6 points and the inside star 5, it doesn't make it any less special. One of the last presents i got for daddy was a sheiff's badge. He just loved it. It reminded him of all the shows we had fun watching. And then the pistol, in Opie the Birdman, i saw it too, s did we decide really there or a toy? This week Hope Summers was on MASH on TV Land. She was a nurse treating Koreans. She was still very spry and feisty in the middle 1970s. Also the big hexagonal window that would show up from time to time on Andy, made an appearence on the Dick Van Dyke Show in a flashback episode of Richie's birth. Fun to find things like this . Mayberry Days
I have enjoyed everyone's fun at Mayberry Days. It's like being there. Thank you all for sharing. I plan to go one year. I am taking care of my mother and while i work events in town, i just don't go far from mama. Also, i think it would be great to see andy and barny togethet again on a stamp. And, yes there should be a hold on selling their stamps in slot machines.' I noticed the tires too. Of course cars with Barney and Andy were topics of discussion for awhile. I have always thought the tires were like everyone's basement or garage-odds and end no one needs any more. And, yes Mrs. Mendlebright could have used them. Something i have notice people used to live in hotels and boarding houses alot more way back instead of apartments. Dillards
It is about time the Dillards are recognized in Missouri. I just downloaded their version of my favorite song Foggy Mountain Breakdown. It don't get better than that. I have been off for awhile. Mama had a vent blow when our power tuned off the electricity with mama on a vent. It blew and we nearly lost mama. She was in the hospital for two weeks. My cousin who lives with mama and me had an abdominall obstructipn and had surgery. So gwen and i havebeen hopping with mama and michael. Now i am dowm withy knees. I think it is awesome that ken and janet get out to promote Mayberry. I didn't know about Emmett in HTSIBWRT but Daniel Radcliffe is appearing in the revival on Broadway. From reports and itune he sings pretty good. I know that info is a little off from Andy but it's a neat tidbit. Also continued prayers for Jim Nabors. Also i have a question about the rounded double doors on the building next to the feed store near the courthouse, where Malcom ran his bike into a truck. Sometimes the doors are open sometimes not and sometimes not there at all. Anyone got any ideas? Everyone from At The Crossroads Chapter wish Jim Nabor good wishes and prayers. At Ciderville Music Barn where i take Banjo lessons, awhile back had ome of Martin's limited edition andy griffith guitar. The man who bought it is an announcer for Farm and Home Hour on Saturday nights in Oliver Springs. Because i wanted to hear how it played, allowed the AG guitar to be played on the show one night, and after let me pick the guitar. Man than was one smooth rich sounding guitar. And, if it didn't cost several thousand i would have one. Now as to mabel and jack albertson being brother and sister i would never have even guessed those too. And the story of Cloris Leachman I believe is true. I think it is applaudable. There have been many advancements in treating alzheimers. Everyone have a great 4th, I have loved reading the bios and the mayberry parade. I love reading everyday and having some time down in mayberry. Well here's my bio. I am sande riggs. I was born in kansas and lived in england til i was 3. I was a deputy sheriff, security (celebrity and movie properties, star trek and hollywood memories) I also taught achool grades k thru 12, loved jt. Hi. Math. I also was a school psych, school counselor, and college instructor. I love andy griffith show and star trek. I also love westerns and other old shows like gunsmoke. I am now disabled and do history reenactments such as the signing of thw treating of the holston and settlement life. I also play the guitar and banjo. I take care of mama, we spend alot of time watching tv and talking about andy griffith. Lost daddy last year. Would most like to meet andy griffith. Have a mayberry day. I always loved Peggy too. I loved the scenes where opie tells her that andy needs a woman since barney is too tall or something like that. I haven't seen the episode in awhile. This is after andy tells opie that he was his young un and a part of him and no one could ever some between them. Warm fuzzy time there as well. Warm fuzzies in Mayberry
While the loaded goat and the birds are my favorites i have to say when andy gives up a fishing pole for the bed jacket and when andy tells bee that they were a family and no marrying unless it was for an overwhelming love are two that come to mind. But, when opie looks up at andy about standing up tp a bully and andy picks him up is such a warm fuzzy that it still touches the heart. There are many moments that touch the heartstrings in andy and the friendship between andy and barny is the ultimate. I have said it before and i will say it again this bulletin board and the people here are a family. Families havetheir good days and their bad days. When there is trouble or sorrow we come together to support each other. When my father passed away many sent me the sweetest messages, when we know of sick we send cards and kind words. When Joplin was nearly wiped out we sent our cyber hugs and kind words of love and support. I love coming here every day to see whats going on and celebrate Andy and our favorite show. Even though we sometimes drift from this topic we still are family and we eventually come together again. Everyone have a great day a Mayberry Day and remember Mayberry's our home town. Hello I love this newsletter. I go to me email looking forward to what's happening in Mayberry. I loved the parade sorry your battery fell down on the job. Seems like you had a good time nevertheless. We are family here and one members issues are all of ours. Our hearts are broken over Joplin but happy Paul and his family are ok. A house becomes a home when the people step inside. In 1970, my arenas bought a house that as it was built it was an eyesore. We moved into a house at 15 I hated. But mama and me decorated it and daddy bought furniture and I made pictures for the wall and afghans. And, it's been our home ever sense. If it fell down tomorrow we could make a new home somewhere else. Because we make the home. Last week I bought mama a BIG TV for her to enjoy her soaps and andy. The first thing I noticed in the SO was the map behind Andy. It certainly was not NC. Does any one know the story on the maps? AC in Mayberry
We know Andy didn't have air but it seemed that the Sheriff's Office probably had it as did Weaver's but it was a time when we were transitioning to AC. I lived in Texas in 1960 and even the corner market didn't have air. We had an air cooler and it was not ice cold. In 1958 I remember going to Miller's in Knoxville and they had window open and huge fans going. So going and getting pop on Sundays would actually be a relief. We are spoiled now days but I would rather have the air. At my house in Utah, I do not have AC but it gets in the 80s between June and August. By the end of August we need heat at night. As far ad them sweating they did using Barney's car episode, the roof episode , and the bandstand. I agree that some of Mayberry,s charm was the porch and the city street.
