"Find Me a Man Like Goober"
Sure enjoyed the video on YouTube. Just wondered who the actor at that very end was. Didn't jump out at me just who it was supposed to be. Thanks. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Don Knotts lived where??
I have wondered this for many years, and I hope someone in this forum could tell me. Did Don Knotts ever live in Rock Island, Illinois?? I remember hearing on the radio years ago (early 1990's sometime) that he had, and a guy who called in to the local radio talk show at that time, said he had lived next door to Don. But I've never heard any more about it, or what period of his (Don's) life this might be true. Does anyone have any insight into this?? Totally false, totally true? Thanks. RE: What happened to Otis
In reference to Otis disappearing, I did see Hal Smith on several episodes of The Doris Day Show, Season 1. This season was 1968-1969. In both episodes that I'm aware of, he played an "Otis-like" drunk neighbor of Doris'. The most recent time, Doris ran out of gas in her car, and she syphoned gas from "Otis" car, with Doris insisting that he shouldn't drive his own car drunk. So he fell asleep in the trunk, while she took of (in her own car, of course) and babysat the neighbor kids. One of those kids was a 6-year-old Jodie Foster (whose brother Buddy was on Mayberry RFD). So there exist lots of hidden Mayberry references. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
re: Mayberry Sighting
I was watching "The Doris Day Show" season 1, from 1968, and in the episode about Doris helping Billy and Toby (her sons) with their new early morning egg delivery, one of the characters to greet her by his house was a "drunk". Of all people, guess who it was. Yes...Hal Smith, in a very Otis-like role. He even broke out his window with a crowbar. (He should've used an Ernest T. rock!). But the credits at the end only referred to him as "the drunk". Seeing him in that character again was like a breathalyzer of fresh air. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
RE: How big a fan are you?
As I have often wondered, without memorizing specific openings, what episode begins with Andy finding Barney asleep in the back of the courthouse? Then when Andy hooks the corners of his blanket under the bed frame, poor Barney is trapped inside. I laugh hysterically every time at that, but can't recollect which episode it is. Does anyone know?? ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
New (or old) question
As I sit here enjoying all that is being said, I don't think I or even some of the newer folks here know what episode the "Who's been Messing up the Bulletin Board" line came from. Can anyone help?? RE: Season 4 laugh tracks
Sorry if this had already been covered. Can anyone tell me, or others, exactly which episodes on Season 4 are missing laugh tracks? If there is a comprehensive listing, it might be helpful. Thanks. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
40 Acre Lot Mayberry
If anyone is interested, or has gone this route, I highly recommend the laminated aerial photograph of the 40 Acre studio Backlot where the outdoor TAGS scenes were filmed in Culver City, CA. In studying the photo and its contents, it is fun to watch episodes with a new perspective on where buildings are in relation to others. I seem to get a new feel for the TAGS "neighborhood", and am always on the lookout for familiar landmarks. Has anyone else enjoyed this perspective? ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://mail.wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
RE: favorite color episode
I must admit my favorite color episode is the same as George Lindsey's...namely "Dinner at Eight" (episode 206). I have even served spaghetti at dinner parties while watching this funny episode. Andy certainly got himself into a mess, thanks to Goober. Watching Andy go through 4 meals of spaghetti in one evening, and wiping his face with his napkin, gets me every time. Dale E.
