All good comments thanks for participating I don’t believe interstate was mentioned only underpass and highway I did also consider Wally bought the station from Safferlee but I like that maybe Wally was the mayors brother teehee John 3:16 Thelma Anderson ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Re: Filling Station
It's been awhile since I've seen the episode, but didn't Mayor Stoner say that they were running the interstate by his brother's gas station? Maybe Wally's station was the only station IN town and the other one was on the outskirts of town by the interstate. Just a thought. Filling station
>>>Hudge says mayor Stoner is putting in the underpass so the road will pass >>>in front of his brothers filling station I never heard of Stoners filling >>>station only Wally?s did Mayberry have 2 filling stations? >>> Maybe Wally IS Mayor Stoner’s Brother. We are never told Wally’s last name. There is also George Safferlee’s gas station, mentioned in Stranger in Town (season one), however it is possible that this same station later became Wally’s, as we never saw or heard of Wally until Man in a Hurry (season three). Years later in Goober’s Replacement, Goober does confirm that there is only one filling station in town. Paul Mulik ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Doug Johnsons find on the great filling station roberry
Good find Doug! No surprise since I cant figure out what the screwdriver was used for.Good eyes and a mind DougHolland Has anyone ever noticed that when Barney rigs up the hidden camera at the filling station he attaches the string to the camera and then ties it to the door. Well, that's all well and good, but when he demonstrates it to Gomer, the door opens IN rather than OUT. So rather than tightening the string and clicking the shutter on the camera, opening the door actually created slack in the string and couldn't have caused the camera to take a picture. Always seemed kind of strange to me... ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Filling Station Robbery
Just finished watching the Filling Station Robbery episode that Holland supplied the web-link for. I believe Barney needed a screwdriver to remove the camera from the shelf. Barney probably had the camera secured on the shelf somehow, so it wouldn't fall when the shutter was released. Barney then needed the screwdriver to un-fasten the camera from the shelf. Filling Station Robbery
" I would wouldn't think a nice browning type camera needed a screwdriver to get the film out" In the YouTube (illegally posted) video :-) at the 14:10 mark you get a close up of the camera and you see a bail type wire in front, fastened to the shelf. You would have had to fasten the camera down to the shelf so the tripwire would not pull the whole camera along with the shutter. Therefore a screwdriver would have been necessary. A hat tip to Reggie Smith who obviously was the one to be so detail oriented! (ain't that right Allan?) The Great Filling Station Robbery and the screwdriver
The Great Filling Station Robbery. Whats the screwdriver for when Barney says " Screwdriver Gomer" .. watch at 18 minutes 08 seconds - http://youtu.be/pv5_EXUTUzY Some added notes for those who say its for the camera. I would wouldnt think a nice browning type camera needed a screwdriver to get the film out and secondly even if the film was extracted from the camera with a screwdriver, why would Barney or Gomer do it ? You would take the film out of the camera in a darkroom. Knowing that there could be spiders in the darkroom , that would eliminate Gomer from doing it , and an old tramp would keep Barney out ! Wally's filling station in Central America?
My daughter and I are continuing to watch the first season of "Mission: Impossible" on DVD. Tonight we watched the sixth episode called "Wheels" in which the IMF fix rigged voting machines in a presumably Central American country called Valeria. Towards the end of the episode, Cinnamon Carter and a local man drive to a gas station. It was Wally's filling station! They had done their best to disguise it by putting different signs on the gas pumps and putting a tile roof and stucco/adobe on the exterior, but it was definitely Wally's. At the end, a bus pulls up to the station, and it comes down the road leading to Wally's. I got a kick out of making this discovery! I wonder if the pop dispensers in Central America have Huckleberry Smash in them? Thelma Lou (Janet) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Wally's Filling Station Closed on Sunday
I was watching the episode with Malcolm Tucker of Tucker Enterprises, not of the Buffalo Tuckers though, and Wally plainly told him they were closed on Sundays. Then we see Mr Tucker steal the truck from the service station when Gomer left the keys in it. Gomer was working that day and it was a Sunday?? So was the gargae just not open but the rest of the station was?Just curious. Steve ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
The great filling station robbery question..
In "The Great Filling Station Robbery" when Barney sets the camera to take a picture of anyone entering the front door, isn't the string set to where it has slack in it when the door is opened? I've watched this episode numerous times and always try to figure how, when the door is opened to the inside, as it does, that would make the camera "click." Anyone else notice that? If you notice at the top of the door..there is a hook on the frame of the door and a hook on the top of the door where the string is tied, this causes the pulling effect on the camera trigger when the door is opened. Also, in "The Shoplifter" episode, is Andy legal in opening the old ladies coat? He has her to weigh herself, then proceeds to open her coat and show what she is hiding underneath. That wouldn't be legal today but was it back then? Just wondering. Floyd doing carving work?? Great Filling Station Robbery.
I was watching the episode last night where Andy and Barney catch on the brothers robbing Wally's. In one scene Andy and Barney both talk to a gentleman in front of the courthouse sitting on a bench. He has a hat on and is carving a piece of wood. He shows it to Andy and Andy replies, "good...tell me what it is and I'll give you fifty cents". Barney then acknowledges the gentleman and says something to effect of , "nice work". The man appears to be Howard McNear or Floyd himself. Once this episode taped close to his stroke? Perhaps Howard could not speak at that time. Does anyone know?
