In “Andy and the Gentleman Crook”, legendary con artist Gentleman Dan Caldwell arrives for a stopover in the Mayberry jail and quickly beguiles Aunt Bee, Opie, and Barney with his charm and sophistication. When Barney is left alone to watch him, Caldwell reels him into his web, takes his gun, and manages to escape. The Magic Christmas Card and Other Strange Occurances
A very interesting and astute observation by Thelma Lou ( Janet ) regarding the magic Christmas card. I have a theory about that. I think it was the work of Count S Vantelecti ( spelling ?). Lots of strange things happened in the confines of the Mayberry Courthouse that have never been explained. Barney's badge kept appearing and disappearing when Gentleman Dan was inarculated there. Barney's hair kept going from being messed up to being combed when he recited the Preamble to the Constitution, and Ernest T. mysteriously got in and out of a cell without using the keys, and Jim Lindsey making a plain old regular guitar sound like an electrified one. Now add to that the changing Christmas card and it all adds up to the work of the Count. If you look between the scenes it all adds up to one thing. REVENG. Ken, I'm not sure I agree with you about the Count being involved in these situations. If you remember, Briscoe Darling discovered witchery in Andy's family. Andy even admitted to a little on my mama's side. These type of occurances have happened all over town, not just the courthouse. And who travels all over our beloved Mayberry and spends more time in the courthouse than our sheriff. We can document this using Barney's wonderful indexing method. A. Strange things happen all over town. 2. The sheriff travels all over town. C. He has witchery in his house. Whew boy, it makes you think. Hey Ken you're right, I didn't think about all those other magic tricks going on. Every time I see Jim Linsey playing that guitar I ask my husband how does he get those electric guitar sounds out that acoustic guitar??? curious, curious, curious. I must not be too much of a trained noticer, I've never noticed that Floyd's glasses don't have lenses. Can't wait to watch for that one!!! Danna - you may have never noticed Thelma Lou's magic trick before but I'd say you can call yourself a trained noticer seeing that you noticed that band-aid on Opie. That's another one I've never noticed. Those helped me to remember some more: In The New Housekeeper Andy picks up that hard-boiled egg that Opie had cooking for 45 minutes. Hey - here is a thought Thelma Lou is really Count Ist Van Telecky? (Sp?)? That would explain her disappearing act, and her reappearance. It would also explain why or how?Barney helped get?all of those wishes answered (including his own). It's because he was a close acquaintance of The Count. This?would also explain how Thelma Lou was able to afford a house. Even though she refers to the office, she is always home in the middle of the day when someone goes over.It doesn't seem liek she is ever at work. Please fill us in about the magic trick? We missed the past few newsletters and need to be filled in, OK? Thanks. Have any of you ever seen Thelma Lou's magic trick? I've noticed this before and I did again last night. It cracks me up every time I see it (I'm amused easily OK). Now I don't know if this is on the DVD, I've never checked. I'm thinking it's just a result of a scene being cut out on TVLand. Anyway, in the episode Farmer Takes a Wife when Andy, Barney, and Jeff Pruitt are all over at Thelma Lou's house during the hen party, Thelma Lou does her magic trick. You see Thelma come into the room to drop off a tray of drinks/food, she says hi to Jeff and then she walks back into the kitchen. You never see her walk back in to the living room but poof she magically reappears there the next second or so. My husband just laughed while I made sure he watched. me saying OK OK, here she comes with the tray. she sets the tray down.now watch...she goes into the kitchen...she doesn't came back in but look there.poof.. she's back in the living room. How does she do that He said maybe there's another way back in but I've looked I don't see one. Thelma Lou's ability to appear back in the living room from the kitchen without ever coming back from the kitchen is easily explainable. There is probably a lost script somewhere about how she bought the old Remshaw place and fixed it up.
