WBMUTBB Private Group on Facebook - T-shirt - Mayberry Meet-up 2023

2023-01-19 Thread Allan Newsome
Another reminder about the "private" Facebook Group I created for WBMUTBB.
By private, it means only members of the group can see anything posted to
the group. It also means no body outside the group can see who's a member.

It's just another way for townsfolk to communicate and share the Mayberry
fun.

Mayberry Meet-up 2016 in Mt. Airy, NC 8-9 July 2016 (Schedule)

2016-07-02 Thread Allan Newsome

Hey Mayberry folks!

I'm putting together the "schedule" of things to do during the Meet-up
weekend but PLEASE realize that nothing is mandatory and nobody will
have hurt feelings if you choose to do things other than those
suggested. Join in if it fits your schedule.

Friends...all the below are options/suggestions for things to do in Mt.
Airy.

There's nothing "BIG" planned other than on Saturday the 9th at 2pm
we'll have the chance to attend "Professor Brower's Lecture Series" at
The Andy Griffith Museum. Professor Neal Brower will be covering The
Andy Griffith Show episode "Andy's Rich Girlfriend." For any that don't
know, Neal Brower is the author of Mayberry 101 and taught "The Andy
Griffith Show: An In-depth Study" at Community Colleges throughout North
Carolina for many years. There's no charge for the class if you've paid
the $6 fee for touring the museum. For more info, visit the website at
http://www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or call (336) 786-1604.

The main things I want to do is get together over at the Mayberry Motor
Inn gazebo on Friday and Saturday evenings (I've already checked in with
Alma about doing this again this year) for some good visiting timeon
Saturday we'll order SubWay platters (everyone can donate to the cause)
.and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together.

IMPORTANT:
I've been trying to find a way to communicate better while at the
meet-up so I've created a "Remind" class for the Mayberry Meet-up.
Remind is normally used for teachers to communicate with their classes
but it will work great for this. If you can get TEXT messages on your
phone, this will allow me to text all of you at one time. No personal
information will be collected and you will ONLY get text messages from
me related to the Mayberry Meetup.

TCNW 373: Touches of Mayberry & Mayberry Meet-Up 2016!!

Two Chairs No Waiting 373: Touches of Mayberry
http://imayberry.com/podcasts/2016/04/two-chairs-no-waiting-373-touches-of-mayberry/

I’m always watching the web for information on The Andy Griffith Show and I
ran across this great story from the The Daily Journal from the Kankakee
Valley, IL.I wrote to them for permission to use their article in the
podcast and they were nice enough to let me use it.

The story is called “Andy Griffith’s hometown abounds with touches of
Mayberry.” It gives a fun look into the town of Mt. Airy, NC and some
insight into Andy Griffith’s life.

It’s also a good lead in to the next Mayberry Meet-up to be held 8-9 July
2016 in Mt. Airy! I hope you’ll make plans to be with us and enjoy so
great Mayberry related fun. It’s a relaxing weekend of fellowship, fun,
and Mayberry experiences like attending Neal Brower’s lecture on the
“Andy’s Rich Girlfriend” episode of TAGS, July 9th at 2 p.m., in the Andy
Griffith Museum Theatre in Mount Airy, N.C. We’ll also be watching TAGS
episodes at the gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn on both evenings. Make
you’re reservations at the Motor Inn now and join us for the fun.

Hello Mayberry!

Hopefully you knew about the 2015 Mayberry Meet-up that was held in
Mt. Airy, NC the weekend of July 17th through the 19th because I did
all I could to let folks know we were getting together for some
Mayberry fun. If you didn’t get the word, I’m certainly sorry because
you missed a fun and relaxing weekend.

2015 marked the 3rd meet-up at the Mayberry Motor Inn in Mt. Airy.
This time Jan and I arrived in Mt. Airy early on Thursday so we could
start the long weekend early. It turned out that the Newsome’s
weren’t the only ones wanting to get and early start on a long
weekend.

I know you’ll enjoy this report about this weekend of Mayberry fun.

Hey Mayberrians!

We, at Mayberry On Main, are very excited about the upcoming Mayberry Meet Up!
Thanks for including us in the schedule of events. We are open 9-6 every
day except Sunday and we are open Sunday 10-6.We really look forward to
visiting with everyone.

Director Gary Nelson and producer Dick Atkins will be in our shop for
autographs, pictures and conversation on Sunday 7/19 between 12 noon and 2:30.
Dick and his lovely wife Joanna stopped in our shop last year while visiting
Mount Airy for the first time. We now have on display in our shop an
“authentic prop” from the movie, Murder In Coweta. Make sure you come in and
visit and view this nice piece of memorabilia.

We will be serving lemonade and cookies - (no coffee tea or punch, thank you.
😊) for all of our friends and fans.

Counting the days………..it’s gonna be big!

Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC 17-19 July 2015
 at the Mayberry Motor Inn
(http://www.MayberryMotorInn.com)

Hey Folks,

I wanted to invite anyone who would like to make plans to visit Mt. Airy,
NC the weekend of 17-19 (Friday-Sunday) July 2015.

Jan and I are, for the third year in a row, heading to Mt. Airy for a
weekend of Mayberry fun!

There's nothing "BIG" planned other than on Friday the 17th Betty Lynn
(Thelma Lou) will greets fans at the Andy Griffith Museum 12:30-3:30 p.m
(ET). She will have autographed 8×10 photos available ($10). For more
information about what's required to get Betty's autograph, visit the
museum website at http://www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or call (336)
786-1604. There is $3 fee for touring the museum/getting access to Betty
(I believe).

We will schedule times for folks to get together and visit with one another
during the weekend at the Mayberry Motor Inn gazebo on both Friday and
Saturday. (I've already checked in with Alma and Michael about doing this
again this year) for some good visiting time...maybe some pizza (food for
sure).and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith Show together.

If you're interested, go ahead and make reservations at the Mayberry Motor
Inn - Phone 336-786-4109 - (they have rooms if you hurry). If it gets
full, there are other places to stay nearby in Mt. Airy. You can still come
to the gazebo for fun and fellowship even if you can't stay at the Motor
Inn but they dig you so you be nice and dig them back.

The last two years have been a lot of fun for me, getting to visit with
folks and enjoy good conversation.

If you're interested, go ahead and make reservations at the Mayberry Motor
Inn - Phone 336-786-4109.

I'll come up with a schedule of things folks can do as we get closer but
things I'm pretty sure we'll do:

 * Visit the Andy Griffith Museum on 17th to get Betty's autograph and look
around.
 * Eat Dinner at "The Depot" in Dobson, NC (Or head out on your own to eat)
-- Bring your camera because it's a sight to behold. Here's a link to
the web site - http://www.codycreek.net

I'm sure we'll find more to fill our time and I'll send out info as we get
closer to the date.

If you're going to try and make it, please e-mail me directly
(fl...@imayberry.com) so I can have some type of head count.

I hope you'll considering making the trip and we'll have our own Mayberry
sized version of a Mayberry weekend in Mt. Airy! It's FUN!

Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC 11-13 July 2014

Hey Folks,

I want to remind everyone that you are inviteed to visit Mt. Airy, NC the
weekend of 11-13 (Friday-Sunday) July 2014 and be part of the "Mayberry
Meet-up."

Several Mayberry fans are , heading to Mt. Airy for a weekend of Mayberry
fun! Those confirmed (please let me know if I leave you off) are Ken
"Otis" Junkin, Bob "Briscoe" & Pat Mundy, Michelle & Chloe Bryson, Collin
Watkins, Jane Hinckley, and the ENTIRE Barney Chapter!!!

The Barney Chapter notified us the other day letting us know that they have
changed the location of their July meeting to Mt. Airy so they can join us
on that Saturday!! IT's BIG!!

We even made the June issue of the Weaver's Newsletter (below)!

* July 11-13: Second Annual Mayberry Meet-Up in Mount Airy, N.C. Allan
“Floyd” Newsome is hosting an informal gathering of fans for the weekend.
Kenneth “Otis” Junkin will also be on hand, but like Allan, he’ll be
incognito. There will be Friday and Saturday evening gatherings in the
gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn for pizza, TAGS watching, and visiting. If
you’re really lucky (or just quick about deciding), you’ll be able to book
a room at the Mayberry Motor Inn (336-786-4109). If not, there are other
fine places to stay nearby.

The only other scheduled group activity so far is attending Neal Brower’s
lecture at the Andy Griffith Museum on Saturday aftern0on (see the next
calendar listing below). And it goes without saying that there will be
hearty eatin’ at least once at the Snappy Lunch (assuming that they’re not
closed for vacation that week). Other group activities TBD, or you can
always just enjoy the bazaars of Mount Airy on your own. If you think you
might be attending, e-mail Allan directly at fl...@imayberry.com, just so
he’ll know how many pizzas to plan for, etc. Y’all come!

Jan and I are, once again, heading to Mt. Airy for a weekend of Mayberry
fun!

There's nothing "BIG" planned other than on Saturday the 12th at 2pm
we'll have the chance to attend "Professor Brower's Lecture Series" at
The Andy Griffith Museum. Professor Neal Brower will be covering The
Andy Griffith Show episode "Back to Nature." For any that don't know,
Neal Brower is the author of Mayberry 101 and taught "The Andy Griffith
Show: An In-depth Study" at Community Colleges throughout North Carolina
for many years. There's no charge for the class if you've paid the $3
fee for touring the museum. For more info, visit the website at
http://www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or call (336) 786-1604.

I *DO* plan to set up times for folks to get together and visit with one
another during the weekend but I haven't set exact times yet for that.

The main thing I want to do is get together over at the Mayberry Motor
Inn gazebo on Friday and Saturday evenings (I've already checked in with
Alma about doing this again this year) for some good visiting
time..maybe some pizza.and watching episodes of The Andy Griffith
Show together.

If you're interested, go ahead and make reservations at the Mayberry
Motor Inn - Phone 336-786-4109 - (they have rooms if you hurry). If it
gets full, there are other places to stay nearby in Mt. Airy. You can
still come to the gazebo for fun and fellowship even if you can't stay
at the Motor Inn but they dig you so you be nice and dig them back.

So far Kenneth "Otis" Junkin has confirmed he's is planning on being
there along with a few other folks from the Two Chairs No Waiting
podcast listeners. Hopefully we'll be joined by WBMUTBB Digest folks
and we'll have a Mayberry time of things!

If you're going to try and make it, please e-mail me directly
(fl...@imayberry.com) so I can have some type of head count.

I hope you'll considering making the trip and we'll have our own small
version of a Mayberry weekend in Mt. Airy.

Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC 19-21 July 2013 (Report)

2013-07-24 Thread Allan Newsome

Hey Mayberry,

WOWlet me just say that we had a wonderful time in Mt. Airy, NC this
past weekend!

We had 29 Mayberry fans join us for the Mayberry Meet-up (listed
below)! They came from *all* over but I think Ohio was the well
represented (4), Tennessee (4), Alabama (3), Georgia (2), and the
most folks were from North Carolina (16) as it should be since we were
in their back yard. :)

Friday started of great with a visit to the Andy Griffith Museum and
autographs from "Thelma Lou" herself, Ms. Betty Lynn! Folks stood in
line for hours to meet Betty, get an autograph and none were
disappointed. She posed for photos and chatted with every person in
line bringing smiles and tears to each along the way.

Friday and Saturday nights were highlight of the weekend for me, just
behind visiting with Betty, because those able to do so gathered in the
gazebo at the Mayberry Motor Inn (thanks Alma!) to watch episodes of
The Andy Griffith Show, select video clips from Mayberry & beyond, and
visit! Just like sitting on the Taylor's front porch, we gathered to
talk and get to know one another better. What a wonderful time we had.

During the day on Saturday, 6 car loads of the Mayberry crew headed
first up to the "Old Mayberry Trading Post" to see the area where the
name "Mayberry" originated. We looked through the Trading Post and some
folks found treasures there that they made their own. We then traveled
the 4 or so miles over to Maybry Mill for photos and some good ole
American history on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We didn't pass up a trip to
the Maybry Mill Restaurant before we left for more time to visit another
and tell lies to one another while we ate.

Sunday morning, the 12 of us remaining in town once again gathered at
the gazebo for a session of the Mayberry Bible Study. Following the
study, those that didn't have to head right back home went to break
bread ones last time before departing. The Bible study and eating were
a fitting and wonderful way to wrap up this Mayberry Meet-up weekend.

You can check out photos of the weekend by visiting the Facebook album
(you do NOT have to sign up to Facebook to see the photos) at the
following link:

Thank you to all who were able to attend (listed below) and hopefully
many of you may be able to join us if we do this again.

Allen,
You're an inspiration! The weekend's festivities sound terrific.

We (of the "You Just Can't Be Nice to People" chapter) wish we could be coming
out to join you all this weekend, but the storm cleanup continues here in
Oklahoma. We'll be thinking some good Mayberry thoughts!

I was wondering if that last part of the schedule ("...under the stars...")
could use a sign, as Barn did for the band concert?

Over and Under,

Mayberry Meet-up in Mt. Airy, NC 19-21 July 2013

2013-07-01 Thread Allan Newsome
Hey Folks,

I wanted to invite anyone who would like to make plans to visit Mt.
Airy, NC the weekend of 19-21 (Friday-Sunday) July 2013.

My wife, Jan, and I are going to be heading to Mt. Airy for a weekend
of Mayberry fun!

There's nothing "BIG" planned other than on Friday the 19th Betty
Lynn (Thelma Lou) will greets fans at the Andy Griffith Museum
12:30-3:30 p.m (ET). She will have autographed 8×10 photos available
($10). For info, visit the website at www.andygriffithmuseum.org/ or
call (336) 786-1604.

I *DO* hope to set up some times for folks to get together and visit
with one another during the weekend but I haven't set times yet for
that.

I go to Mt. Airy every year for Mayberry Days but I'm always "working"
by doing Floyd and never get to see any of the things around town and
in the surrounding area. I'd like to try and do a bit of that. Maybe
go to the old Mayberry Trading Post on the Blue Ridge Parkway and take
photos at the "Mayberry Creek" sign up there.

I'd also like to get together over at the Mayberry Motor Inn gazebo on
Saturday evening (I have to check with Alma on this one) for some good
visiting time..maybe some pizza.music (I will not sing, I will not
sing). Who knows.

If you're interested, go ahead and make reservations. I think the
Motor Inn may be full but if it is, there are other places to stay
fairly nearby.

So far I've heard that Kenneth "Otis" Junkin is planning on being
there along with a few other folks from here on the WBMUTBB Digest an
and listeners of the Two Chairs No Waiting Podcast.

If you're going to try and make it, please e-mail me directly
(fl...@imayberry.com) so I can have some type of head count..

I hope you'll considering making the trip and we'll have our own small
version of a Mayberry weekend in Mt. Airy.
