Mayberry Quilt?

2018-02-08 Thread ctmidway58
Perhaps those with the ability can come up with a wonderful design for a
Mayberry Quilt and donate one to the Silent Auction, only raffle it off for $1
a ticket!  I'd get several tickets and I expect there would be a long line to
buy tickets! Drawing could be during or at the end of Col. Tim's Talent Time
Saturday night. That would probably raise more for Surry Arts than the entire
Silent Auction!

Whaddya think? Any takers?

Mayberry Quilt

Auctioning a Mayberry quilt is a GREAT idea to raise money for the Surry
Arts Council! I personally would buy at least 20 tickets!

Mayberry Quilt

2018-02-10 Thread Pat Coleman
Thanks Dewey, for mentioning the Mayberry Quilt I made. That quilt was made
for the 25th Mayberry Days and had the shirts for each year of Mayberry Days.
I worked with Tanya Jones with the Surry Arts Council and my Mayberry Family to
obtain the shirts for the quilt. It was an honor, blessing and very humbling to
make the quilt. Betty Blackmon bought the quilt at the live auction and
donated it to the Surry Arts Council and as far as I know, now hangs back stage
in the ladies dressing room and can been seen during the tours.

I made and donated a couple of t-shirt lap quilts to the silent auction in the
past and they were well received. Johnna, I look forward to hopefully meeting
you and seeing the quilt you are making for Mayberry Days and your creativity,
time and generosity will be enjoyed and appreciated by everyone. Our Mayberry
family is the best!

Taylor Home and Mayberry quilt

2018-02-09 Thread Johnna Clarke
I just re-watched The Wedding twice, and when Howard's mother and new
stepdad drive away in their car, you can see that the Taylor Home appears
to be three houses away. The porch is very evident, albeit plain without
furniture. I'm sure this was done so as to disguise the location of
Howard's residency.

It was mentioned to make a Mayberry quilt for donation at Mayberry Days.
While that is a wonderful suggestion, it is a mighty lofty endeavor. I am
a true novice, but I have discovered the time and money that goes into
materials. By the time I get my quilt back from the long arm quilt
business, I will have close to $1,000 in labor and materials due to the
special novelty fabric purchased, the special quilt design requested, and
the batting, backing, and binding to be done. That being said, I know that
this is for a fundraiser, which I'm all in favor of. SO - I will volunteer
to make a smaller version of my quilt (such as a wall hanging or lap
blanket highlighting episodes of the show) and have it quilted and donate
it for a raffle at Mayberry Days in September. I plan to attend in person
with one of my Blood Brothers, so we can hand-deliver it. I will wait to
hear from "The Man" before I begin any kind of construction. Thank you.

Mayberry Quilt and donate one to the Silent Auction

2018-02-09 Thread Steve Cooke
I had a question about the quilt and possible auction. Would we be able to
set it up so that those of us not fortunate enough to attend could still buy
tickets and just pay shipping if we were lucky enough to win? Although I
will probably be like Henry "The Jinx" Bennett and draw out the hat size,
just thought it would open up the possibility of making a lot more money
that way.
