Mr. Schwump be the guest host on SNL. I would love to see his opening monologue. What monologue? We all know Mr. Schwump just smiles and nods his head. Ken,? Great idea having Mr. Schwump be the guest host on SNL.? I would love to see his opening?monologue.? Maybe the musical guest could be Carl Benson and the?Original Wildcats.? That is if Carl's mother can stay up that late. ? Harry in Salem, VA?? I laughed out loud when I saw this. I have been watching TAGS since about 1970 and watching SNL since 1975. Love them both. I'd rather our beloved Ange not be associated with that facet of showbiz! As much as I love Andy and loved Betty when she guest hosted SNL, I have to agree, I'm not sure Andy would be a good fit. But keep in mind he did once do a memorable cameo on SNL in the 1980s when Ron Howard guest hosted and they did that howlingly funny (and irreverent) Mayberry spoof. Andy Griffith on SNL
Actually, Andy Griffith was a little irreverent himself when appearing in a skit on Saturday Night Live (SNL) when Ron Howard was host on October 9, 1982. In the Opie Goes Home sketch, Andy gave Opie advice and spoke of smacking Aunt Bee around a little. Ron Howard hosted SNL a number of years ago. They did a Mayberry skit that was rather funny, but not in the best of taste. The biggest laugh came when Ron called one of the characters by the wrong name and had to ad lib. Andy Griffith sort of made an appearance in the episode; through a little video magic, his face appeared in the air and he chatted with grown-up Opie as if Ron were dreaming or talking to Andy's spirit or whatever. Some of Andy's comments were very un-Mayberry-like, and I will not repeat them here. Perhaps the clip is available on YouTube if anyone is interested.
