The Darlings Are Coming

2007-02-08 Thread keepsake68
Hey Mayberrians!

Today, if anyone were to ask me about The Darlings on TAGS, I would have to say
there were a cross between The Beverly Hillbillies and Hee Haw!

I really enjoyed their first appearance on TAGS.

Take care,
Valerie

The Darlings Are Coming

2006-11-26 Thread keepsake68
Hi Mayberians,

In "The Darlings are Coming", there is a scene where Charlene is chasing Andy
around the office. Andy jumps over the banister (I think that is what it is
called...lol) and then he says, "Charlene, I am old enough to be your father!"
Then Charlene utters something. I cannot understand what her response was even
after I viewed that episode several times over. Can someone tell me what
Charlene said to Andy after he told her he was old enough to be her father?

Also, I saw on a later episode, when the Darlings returned, that she had
divorced Dudd. Why did she divorce Dudd? Too bad because I felt that mostly
marriages would have survived during that time. Didn't she still have the hots
for Andy? I think she did.

"The Darlings Are Coming"

2006-10-01 Thread keepsake68
THE DARLINGS ARE COMING..I have watched and re-watched this great episodes
so many times. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I discovered that the man
who played "Brisco Darling" was actually Denver Pyle, the beloved "Uncle
Jessie" from The Dukes Of Hazzard. I was so shocked! I wonder could he really
"jug" in real life like he did no this episode. I guess that was my first taste
of blue grass music. They are can really play, can't they? Anyone heard
anything recently about the lady who played Charlene? I did go to a website to
look for info on THE DILLIARDS (that was the real name for the Darlings) and I
think some of the guys are still living. Great musicians.

One of my favorite lines from The Darlings episodes was what Brisco told Andy
while they were in front of the horse's trough.."...she's promised so don't
go making any fancies for her" and "...just see that it don't" or something
like that...lol

Sincerely,
Valerie

The Darlings Are Coming

2013-09-03 Thread Jim and Nancy
I just watched this episode and heard Aunt Bee say something I had not
caught before. When the Darlings had eaten in the jail cell and Aunt
Bee was picking up the dishes she referred to Mr. Darling as "Mr.
Briscoe". Maybe she "specializing" on him then!

"The Darlings Are Coming"

2018-09-28 Thread Steve Cooke
On Friday I read a post by Joe Suszcynski about the Darlings in the Mayberry
jail when they were eating the Navy beans. This is the only scene I have
seen where any of the boys says anything. I can hear one say "About to Pop"
and right off the top of my head I think one says something else. You can
see their mouths move during the scene also (or at least I can). This has
been discussed and discussed about "IF" the boys say anything. What are
some other opinions on the scene as to "IF" they actually speak during this
scene or not?

"The Darlings Are Coming"

2019-09-12 Thread Joe
Last night, I was on the "Remembering Mayberry" website, and happened to be
looking at Maggie (Charlene Darling) Peterson's script from "The Darlings
Are Coming" when that actual episode came on MeTV. I couldn't believe the
coincidence. I thought it would be fun and interesting to follow the
script while watching the program to look for differences and changes;
there were more than I expected.

The pages were all in light blue, which indicates , as Randy Turner
mentioned in his excellent blog posts about researching the TAGS scripts at
UNC, that they were revised from the original script. There were
handwritten notes throughout the script written by Maggie, which were
pretty interesting.

The first thing I noticed was on the third page of script, listing the
cast. The hotel clerk was named "Walter Harris", and there was no actor
listed yet for the part - obviously this changed when they cast Olan Soule
as the clerk, and used the name "John Masters" that was used in other
episodes when he was the choir director. Also, there were only 2 Darling
boys mentioned, "Jebbin" and "Frankie" - these parts were not cast yet
either. So, at some point soon afterwards, the decision was made to add 2
more Darling boys.

Reading the script along with the show surprised me with the frequent
changes in words and dialogue, mostly minor, but some very interesting.
For example, when Andy is waiting at the bottom of the rope outside the
hotel and catches the first Darling boy, the script has "Frankie" saying
"Thank ya" - but as we know, in the filmed version he says nothing.

In the jail cell scene, the script (and Maggie's notes) show that during
the song, Andy was supposed to pull a chair up *outside* the cell where he
played the guitar along with the Darlings. Charlene was supposed to get up
and dance around the cell to the music. But, as we know, in the filmed
final version, Andy sat *inside* the cell while Charlene sat still but kept
touching him with her foot.

Also in the cell, just prior to the music, Aunt Bee says something to
Charlene like "You're a pretty young thing, aren't you ?" - but in the
script, this line is not there. Aunt Bee just asks Briscoe if he liked the
beans.

In the script, and in the full filmed episode, the Darlings and Andy played
a second song: "Salty Dog" - this song is cut from most of the syndicated
episodes,

Finally, near the end of the episode when Charlene is chasing Andy around
the courthouse, the script says that Charlene is about to put her arms
around Andy when Briscoe opens the door and enters, and yanks Charlene
away. But, as we all know, in the final filmed version, Charlene had Andy
wrapped up in a big hug and doesn't let go even when Briscoe enters.

So, I know this was pretty long, but I couldn't help it - it was just so
interesting to read the script along with the actors and note the
differences.

Hey Dolly- "The Darlings Are Coming" (episode 88). That episode was "The
Darlings Are Coming" (episode 88). After Andy runs them off of several places
to bed down, he finally takes them to the jail. After Aunt Bee has fed them,
she asked one of them if they wanted more and then they reply. Listen close.
