Aunt Bee Goes To The Dump
I haven't followed the Digest too much recently. My wife is disabled and I'm her caregiver and time just get away from me. Recently though, I did see the talk about Andy, Barney ,and Aunt Bee going to the local dump at night to search for some copies of Opie's newspaper. The main focus seemed to be on how Aunt Bee got to the dump. Well, I remember that in at least one or two episodes Aunt Bee had a car. Ford was the car of choice on the show and Aunt Bee's car I believe was a Ford Victoria and I think that the year model was sometime in the late 50's. I imagine, that was what she drove to the dump. Thanks and I'm going to try to get back to paying more attention to the Digest. Sheriff Poindexter (John Graham) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Re: The Dump / inconsistencies
Michael, Very well stated. I actually now enjoy noticing the inconsistencies, and continuity errors. It gives one's imagination an opportunity to envision "what-if" scenarios. I also now enjoy noticing scenery and backgrounds that are "inconsistent" with Mayberry, like seeing the top of the Desilu studios across the street behind Andy's house on the 40 acre lot, etc. I guess one could say it "hones our noticin' skills." :) Curt Birmingham, AL >Message: 1 >Date: Mon, 21 Sep 2020 12:39:31 -0400 >From: Michael Eury Subject: The Dump / inconsistencies >> After repeated viewings throughout our lifetimes of the beloved episodes... ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Aunt Bee's sojourn to the dump and insight into the tv industry
Elizabeth, you're a scream! I wouldn't put it past Aunt Bee to have done that! And thanks to Michael for his informative insight into the tv writing industry; I surely did not know all that stuff; puts a whole new light on things for sure!!! Aunt Bee at the dump
Maybe Aunt Bee snuck out of the house through the kitchen and hid in the back of the squad car, then got out after Andy parked and got out. Elizabeth in Ga ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
The Dump / inconsistencies
After repeated viewings throughout our lifetimes of the beloved episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, the mistakes (Barney's different middle names and years of service) and logic lapses (just how did Aunt Bee get out to the dump anyway?) seem to crash through our TV screens like a rock chucked by Ernest T. Bass. But let's not forget that back in the day, the focus of the talented TAGS writers was the production of a single quality episode, one at a time. If you laughed and were entertained during that half hour, mission accomplished. Today, of course, TV series' entire seasons are mapped out before a single episode is scripted, with interlocking story arcs and an ongoing continuity narrative, primed for a culture that binge watches and demands such attention to detail. Like the idyllic Mayberry itself, times were much simpler when they were making TAGS. No one involved could have predicted that a half-century later, we'd still be glued to this show. Instead of being pestered by these goofs, why don't we forgive the producers and writers for them and just continue to enjoy their fun in the spirit in which they were produced? Dump question by Elizabeth
Elizabeth, this is just another example of poor writing by those who crafted the episode scripts for TAGS back then. I've noticed so many examples in recent months I lost count. I think because we've watched them so many times and are devoted fans of Mayberry that it makes it slap us in the face more readily. I'm thankful the basic gist of most of the stories were of goodness. But there are times when it grates on my nerves I must admit. The dump
In 'Opie's newspaper', when they go to the dump to see that the newspaper is destroyed, Andy drives the squad car, Barney says he needs to get Gobers truck back to him and Aunt Bee just shows up at the county dump. How did she get there. Usually the dump is several miles out of town and it was at night. She couldn't (wouldn't) have walked. Down in the dump
Also, at the end they were all looking for page two in the city dump. How many episodes have a scene where they are at the city dump in them? Thanks. In The Lucky Letter, Andy finds Barney at the dump and helps him look for the chain letter he threw away. Up in the Dump with Andy and Barn
I enjoy the episodes when Andy and Barn (and Aunt Bee once) are hanging out at the City Dump. The bent old car parts (Old Buzzy Leonard's, I believe), the Playboy-type mag (BARNEY!! ... although Andy certainly enjoyed a good look or two at the female form) and the all-around messy look. Reminds me of a small town. I also admire the realistic personal touches -- Andy and the girlie mag, Andy ordering a beer and occasionally enjoying a bit of gossip or Andy, Barn and Bee eager to read the second edition of The Mayberry Sun. This helps make them rounded characters, not fake, holier-than-thou plaster saints. The realism aids the humor. Going to the dump
I have wondered about Aunt Bee leaving Opie alone too, and how she got there. As for Barn, didn't he use the excuse of having to return Goober's car? (Which brings up another question, what car did Goober have? I know he had the truck...and what happened to Andy's truck that was in the first episode...then i don't believe ever seen again? _ Windows Live™: Keep your life in sync. http://windowslive.com/explore?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_BR_life_in_synch_052009 ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Opie alone? Where is the dump anyway?
Hey! I just watched the episode where Andy and Barney and Aunt Bee end up at the dump trying to find the second page of gossip from Opie's newsletter. Since I'm pretty sure Opie said goodnight and went to bed, does that mean that Aunt Bee left him alone to go to the dump? And since she didn't have a car - the dump is within walking distance? And Barn ( who we know is afraid of the dark ) didn't mind walking there either?! Peggy It makes you thank! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
