100th Birthday Party for Don Knotts
Sunday, July 21, 2024 will be the 100th birthday of Don Knotts, so our Blood Brothers chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club is hosting a once-in-a-lifetime event that is sure to be BIG! You are invited to join us for a celebration like no other. The after noon will kick off with a local band, Keota, playing music from TAGS. Next up will be Mayberry author and expert Randy Turner offering an audio visual presentation about Don Knott's life and career. A drawing will be held for soor prizes compliments of Weaver's Department Store and other contributors. Intermission will include dessert. Then mega-TAGS fan Sean Dietrich aka Sean of the South will entertain guests with his music, humor, and stories. A Meet and Greet will follow. It's guaranteed to be a unique and memorable experience. Happy Birthday to the Blood Brothers Chapter
The Blood Brothers chapter of The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club in Macon, Missouri celebrated our 10th anniversary on February 5 (even though it is official on February 7). We enjoyed visiting about TAGS and finding references to "ten" and "tin" (the traditional recognition for a tenth anniversary) in all the episodes. After lunch, we played games such as Pin the Badge on the Sheriff, Mayberry Musical Chairs (with Darling music), Pickle on a Spoon race, and Mayberry Charades. We ended our gathering with door prizes. Well, today are off to do two July 4th parades in two neighboring small towns. We did another big parade on Sunday. I changed my gig a wee bit. Whilst walking the parade we play through my car PA system Andy singing "The Fishing Hole". I now carry a fishing pole with me with a large artificial fish at the end of the line. When I engage with folks I take a large rubber worm out of my uniform shirt pocket and I tell them Andy only gives me one worm when I go fishing and I have to keep it in my pocket except when I am fishing. Folks love it. I hope everyone has a wonderful day celebrating the birthday of our great nation. We are so fortunate to live in land where we have so many freedoms. But let us never forget, that with every freedom we have, we also have responsibilities. My Birthday Bash
On Labor Day I celebrated my 70th birthday with a group of 40 friends who my wife invited to our house for a party. Many of the guests were "car show friends" so our street was lined with old classic cars and other vintage vehicles. I had to give a number of tours of our basement family room as that is where all my Mayberry items are displayed. They were in awe of all my trophies and TAGS memorabilia and I had to explain where and how I obtained all the items. This of course led to a lot of talk about favorite TAGS characters and episodes. And of course my big cake had an edible photo of my squad car as well as a number of Mayberry Deputy badges. The cake was even engraved with "70" on it. So all in all it was a very emotional packed night. The only downer was that the day before I learned of the death of a friend who I had taught with for 30 years and who was my age. I think my birthday card to Betty Lynn might not have arrived yet. We didn't get it mailed until Wednesday, I think. I decided not to go with a standard card. I am a photographer, and I have some nice cards with openings where I can insert my own photos and write my own message inside. I usually save these for special occasions. I have a photo of my husband and me with Betty Lynn at Mayberry Days in 2014. I printed it out and then added word balloons to the picture telling her happy birthday and such things. I put the picture in the card and wrote a message to Betty inside. I thought this would be a one-of-a-kind card. I hope she likes it! Happy birthday Andy, thanks for all the memories we have had and will have. Ken it is absolutely terrific that you can share Mayberry with so many. It has even brought lost friends back! Yes the bullets case should point downward. But it is a minor issue that does not detract from enjoying time with Barney. Besides, not only did Barney have a sensitive trigger he was probably famous for dropping bullets and Andy would have insisted on Barney wearing then up. Speed loaders, a cylinder with 6 slots and a spring where you line the bullets with the cylinder of the pistol, would have been a preferable choice for Barney in case he was ever pinned down in a shootout. Happy 85th birthday Andy. Also belated happy birthday to Ruta Lee. (Miss Darlene Mason and that college kid). To everyone who has recently been in a tornado, Paul Mulik and family, Dave Browning and his wife. I can sympathize and I cried when I was reading the accounts of what happened. On April 16, 1998, Nashville and surrounding counties were hit with several tornadoes. The two tornadoes that came thru my parents house, lifted me off my feet and just about pulled my arm joints out of place, I was holding onto a door frame at the time. No basement or any where else to hide. One tornado came thru the front door and one came in the back door at the same time. The doors were open at the time and I saw the tornadoes coming before they hit the house. The sound that the tornadoes made sounded like a thousand freight trains going at once. We had to move out of the house for about six to 7 months. Still living at the house now with my mom. I made the long story short, so that I wouldn't get a rude or break any rules. Ken, you and your partrol car get into more trouble than my truck and me. I like reading the stories about your Mayberry talks and things that happen to you. Everyone have a Mayberry kind of day. A Mayberry birthday (mine)
Well, today (Tuesday) was my birthday. I received part of my birthday gift from my husband in the form of a surprise party Sunday evening at the church after our evening service, but today I received the second part of my gift. He and my daughter gave me the Mayberry-opoly game! We sat down this evening and played it, and we had loads of fun.
