Hi group,
I'm having a very bad nightmare with IE 6.0. The page is to have a
visitor view 5 video clips of the products my client sells.

First of all, none of it works in Opera! No surprise to me.

NN 7.0 runs every movie with no problem, as long as I wait until the
page is completely loaded. All movies play.

IE - This is very, very weird. The first and last videos, Batman and
T-Rex, will not run in IE 6.0, no matter what I do. I have checked,
rechecked, modified, changed order, etc. and I can't get those 2
videos to play. In the hope (yes, I'm hoping my code is wrong) that I
maybe my code is messed up, or there might be something that I cannot
see, I'm asking for help from the list to please view the videoclips
page. Each movie is called by an open window script, and each movie
object is in its own html page. I have the individual html page and
it's movie in the same directory so as to not confuse the browsers.

the main page is: http://www.outrageousevents.net/index.html, then
from there you can go to videoclips, or use the complete url in the
subject area.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

[wdvltalk] Re: Questions regarding CSS

2003-02-11 Thread contact
Mary,

I agree with Joseph. When it comes to fonts, because of readability and
compatibility problems, many times "less is more". If you want to use
the font for a heading, you could make a GIF out of it.

Will

Mary,

I would add to this that it would not be safe (design wise) to use comic
fonts (jokerman? Excaliber Logotype etc ) since their dimensions are
very
different to the traditional and proportional types that form the basic
type sets (which I think are fewer even than Janet lists).Sometimes
even
the same font has different names, and it is likely that the computer
will
not recognise the other name as being that face.I have seen one
'chinese' style font under five names.

This is a reason why pdf is so successful, because it embeds the fonts
used.
The other normal way round is, of course, graphics.

It is a great shame, but even in hard print you see fancy types limited
to
logos and graphics. There it used to be because to buy the set of
fonts
for a face was pretty expensive; few printers would invest.

No, you do not need to use HTML in the *.css file. You would only
include
your style declarations in this file.

The different books that I have read and various online resources have
listed the following as commonly installed fonts:

PC: Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, Verdana
UNIX: Helvetica, Times
MAC: Helvetica, Courier, Palatino, Times, Verdana, Arial

I always try to list at least 3 different font families in my CSS
declarations. I also use the generic names, such as 'sans', 'serif',
'sans-serif', and 'monospace' in my delcarations as well.

If you list a font that the user does not have installed, the browser
will
use the default system fonts. By using the generic names, you at least
tell
the browser to use a Serif or Sans-serif font when substituting.

I hope this helps,

Stephen,

The default width for a DIV is 100% of the container. If you do not define a
width, it will fill the available space. When you give the DIV left and
right margins of 15% the browser automatically calculates the remainder and
make the DIV 70% - you don't have to tell it that. When you do, it gets
confused. Pull the width value and let the browser do your work for you.

When I run the page, if I turn sysDebug on, in the relevant section I get

--Function DBOpen()-
strSource=SELECT [users].[id] as id, [users].[name] as username,
[rights].[object] as object, [tblEditableObjects].[Title] as title,
[rights].[rite] as rite FROM users INNER JOIN (rights LEFT JOIN
tblEditableObjects ON [rights].[object] = [tblEditableObjects].[Name]) ON
[users].[login] = [rights].[userid] WHERE [users].[id]=4

Edit Rights for

repeating until the script times out.

As you can see from my debug routines, after the "Function DBOpen-"
line I should get either a "Returned data" message or a "No returned data"
message. But I get none of the response.writes, not even the "ENd of DBOpen"

And the "Rig

[wdvltalk] Re: crossover Cat 5 cable?

2003-02-11 Thread Scott
Cross-over is for direct NIC to NIC connections and some Router to Hubs and Hub to
Hubs require
this type as well. Most newer generation routers and hubs have to x-over component
built into
them, so there is no need for a cable with the wiring crossed over that cost 7-8 times
as much
money
