2003-09-14 Thread Matthew Macdonald-Wallace
All,

I have now moved the demo site into the main area of the website
http://www.truthisfreedom.org.uk/, the content may not be much, but it's
a taste of what's to come, all comments on layout etc freely welcomed,
all political comments welcomed on the social list! :p

I'm proud to say that it is xHtml 1.0 Strict and CSS 2 compliant, I've
even got the badges to proove it! :D

look forward to your views,

Matt

P.S. the Logo is in development, I'm just not sure what it should look
like! :P

the nav bar on the left should not be labelled as a nav bar (c'mon, your
users can shurely figure that out)

the link to the home page should not work on the home page, the link to the
about page should not work on the about page

the nav bar fades to white from left to right -- but then the rest of the
page has no background colour (consequently it's lime green, which is what
my browser's default is)

the three-point ordered list on the home page is in a totally different font
size from the rest of the copy -- it's actually a good readable size,
whereas the rest of the copy is too small, and what's worse, not re-sizeable

Matt,

Opera still won't go near it. I've closed and reopened. IE is happy
though.

Like the colour, the broad shape, the left bg something. The banner
upsets the balance.Better, perhaps to force the l and r colu,ms down to
line up with the centre?

Like the whole concept.Partly agree with the first essay; jsut think
the prinicipled and moral must also deal with the practical. Might offer
something if I get thinking time. Good luck with the project.Well
worth pushing the point as dictatorship tightens its noose.

[wdvltalk] What mistake I have made?

2003-09-14 Thread Honglin Zhao
Hello all:

  I have a desk-top win2k-pro and a lap-top
winXP-home, they are connected
simply
by a crossover cable for exchange files. This home
network has been working
well
for months. Now I upgrade the winXP-home to winXP-pro
and found the home
network
doesn't work again. The Lap-top side always says:

" zWorkgroup is not accessible. You might
not have permission
to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of
this server to find out if you have
access permission.

The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently
 available. "

Who could tell me what work I had missed? Thanks!

http://www.aquaspa.ie>

Site checks out fine on Netscape 7 win2k, but i think you know this already.

I found the text size a tad too small, with my browser set to display text
at 14pt, which is what i normally surf at. But i resized to 16pt, and it was
fine. I guess you are primarily concerned with how it looks with the default
text size setting on IE, right?

Also, find the color contrast of the links at the bottom a little hazy,
until you hover them.

here, I got a minor issue. On IE6, everything looks fine, on Opera 7.20, I have
suddenly a bottom-border under the top links (home contact us), which I don't
have in IE (it shows under the 'Day Package' img, too. The problem is, that the three
leftmost bottom borders do only show as 1px high, in opposition to the others more to
the right, which are pretty fat. I guess they are stuck BEHIND the spa logo.
In Firebird .6.1 it looks exactly as in IE6.
All on Windows XP Sp1, 1152x864.

[wdvltalk] Re: What mistake I have made?

2003-09-14 Thread Ross Clutterbuck
> Who could tell me what work I had missed?

First thoughts would be to make sure you've got your IP addresses correct
(if you're using a direct cable connection then fixed Ip addresses always
work with me) such as 192.168.0.x with the usual Subnet mask of
255.255.255.0 and both machines are in the same workgroup.

If not then make sure you got some kind of traffic happening - open the
Command window (Start > Run > type "cmd") and then ping the other machine
("ping 192.168.0.1" for example). If you get a reply then there is some
communication happening so the problem is a little deeper. if you get
"request times out" then the machines can be linked but something's blocking
the way. If you get "Destination host unreachable" then the machines can't
even find each other.

Run with this for now and let us know what happens

2003-09-14 Thread Galatek Webmaster
Hi all, I am trying to work out setting up a Mail Server while connecting to
the internet through a router and cable modem. The outgoing mail system
works fine but no incoming mail can be received (Port 110 blocked by ISP
maybe? or router? i dont know). I am using Apache Web server with JAMES for
the email server and it seems the configuration is fine. i have made an MX
(as well as a CNAME resolving to mail.c-omputersolutions.com) record with my
registrar pointing to my servers IP for the mail server and it seems to work
fine for outgoing but not incoming. is it the router? or cable modem? and if
so can i route the incoming mail to a different port?

Win XP has its own built in firewall. Perhaps that is what is causing your problem.
Another thought is: administrator rights. XP pro is more strict about that.

2003-09-14 Thread J.R. Pitts
Exactly what port do you plan on routing the incoming mail to? The router is
blocking all of them.

You have to open the incoming mail port (110) and (if using NAT) redirect
all port 110 traffic to the appropriate private ip address. Oh, just re-read
that you have an MX to your server, so I assume you aren't using NAT. Just
open port 110.
