[wdvltalk] Fw: Windows Installer
Since I last installed a program a few days ago Windows Installer has stopped doing its job - the message is that it is either corrupted or missing or that Xp is in safe mode. Windows unhelpful Help has instructions for using the Command Prompt, which I do not like using... I have restarted twice - Xp is not in safe mode. I cannot find the appropriate action to take on the Dell discs. Has anyone any advice, suitable to my rather nervous feel about tinkering too much? Re: [wdvltalk] Fw: Windows Installer
Sounds like Windows Installer has gone belly-up because some other program has tinkered with it. Try installing a whole new Windows Installer package: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en MOU The WDVL Discussion List from WDVL.COM To Join wdvltalk, Send An Email To: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] or use the web interface http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ Send Your Posts To: wdvltalk@lists.wdvl.com To change subscription settings, add a password or view the web interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=wdvltalk http://www.wdvl.com ___ You are currently subscribed to wdvltalk as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp. Dunno, but I could send you a Linux CD if that helps ;) Other than that, Ross's suggestion to re-install Windows Installer sounds like a good idea. David, thanks for the offer, but I have a number of Linux progs waithing for me to get round to reorganising the HDD to make room.[I have only 80G] This also means deleting unused progs which means going through and trying to remember why most are there! Hi Andrew.I was looking through that list of Accessories before I posted to the list, and I just didn't see the 'restore' entry. I'm not sure I'd have know how to deal with it even so. But thanks for the reminder - I must sepnd a bit of time to be sure i understand it...hopefully ;-) Joseph Joseph Harris http://www.smilepoetryweekly.com family friendly humour Start, programs, accessories, system tools, restore! -Original Message- From: joseph harris [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 11 September 2007 21:12 To: wdvltalk@lists.wdvl.com Subject: [wdvltalk] Fw: Windows Installer Since I last installed a program a few days ago Windows Installer has stopped doing its job - the message is that it is either corrupted or missing or that Xp is in safe mode. RE: [wdvltalk] Fw: Windows Installer
To do a rollback Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore If you do not have appropriate restore points you may be stuck flattening and using the disk that should have come with your Dell system. Note, sometimes it is on a hidden restore partition and there should be something listed under Dell in your start menu to begin the process if you don't have CDs. Re: [wdvltalk] Fw: Windows Installer
Thanks Cheryl. With Andrew's prompt I did see the restore, but I confess I don't do restore points...Just now I'm recovering from an op and don't feel like tackling anything. But I have downloaded and re-installed Insatller, so I'm set up and ready to go [well I've tested it actually and it is fine - till the next time ;-)]. Currently I'm trying to find two programs totalling 7Gb; on add/remove list, but not answering my calls...
