WOWODC recordings are now available to buy

2009-11-19 Thread Pascal Robert

Hello everyone,

The WOWODC recordings are now available to buy at :

https://wocommunity.org/apps/WebObjects/WOCommunity

Why do you need to login before you see the items? That's because I
need to send an ID to PayPal so that I can find out who made a
purchase when PayPal send me the notification (IPN) back.

The recordings are made available by a unique RSS feed binded to your
user, after you made your purchase log back to the app and you should
have a Assets page with a link to the RSS feed. If you don't have
the Assets page after one hour, send me your PayPal transaction ID and
I will add manually the items to your profile, it might be that PayPal
didn't send the IPN.

Also, about the files. Some of audio feedback, we tried really hard to
clean them up but sadly some of them weren't easy to clean. And I
really wanted to make the videos to run on AppleTV by reducing the
resolution, but sadly HandBrake keeps crashing on both my iMac and my
MBP, and other movie tools created really bad movies... We will use a
different strategy for WOWODC 2010.

And the monitoring part is missing from my deployment session. I have
to re-record it but with my cold/flu I don't think anyone want to hear
me sneezing for 30 minutes.. So you will get that part next week,
anyone who purchase this session before I record the monitoring part
will get it for free when it's done.

Last thing : you will see references to personal and organisation
profiles, that's something coming soon.

WOWODC 2010 : official date and venue

2009-11-19 Thread Pascal Robert
Ok guys and gals. It's official, WOWODC 2010 will be on August 27th,
28th and 27th at the Hotel Gouverneur (4 stars hotel) in Montreal :

http://www.gouverneur.com/fiche.php?lang=enhotel_id=2

Our group rate is $149 CAD/night (including free WORKING Wifi), but
people who stays at the Gouverneur and attending WOWODC will get a
(really good) discount on their WOWODC admission ticket. Admission
price will be between $425 and $550, it will depend of the total
number of sessions we will have.

We still have room for additionnal presenters, so if you want to
present, please contact me before January 31th 2010.

BTW, Montreal is also a nice place for vacations :-) We have
everything for everyone (Six Flags amusement park reachable by the
subway, a big botanical garden, pubs and clubs, family activities).
And don't worry about not being to speak French, the majority of
people working downtown and at touristic places are bilingual. Check
Tourisme Montreal for more details :

Two new podcasts on wocommunity.org

2009-11-19 Thread Pascal Robert
David LeBer and Travis Britt donated their WOWODC East sessions to the
community. David's talk is about migration and prototypes, Travis's
talk is about using parts of Wonder in your app. Those two podcasts
are available in the podcasts RSS feed of wocommunity.org.

Re: back to deploy problems

2009-11-19 Thread Baiss Eric Magnusson

After doing an Ant build, I can go to Terminal:
cd /Library/WebObjects/Applications/tyf.woa
./tyf
and this should be the same as running the application via JavaMonitor or
Terminal on the deployment server?

Anyway, I get in Terminal Created adaptor of class WOClassicAdaptor on port
64832 and address baissYi.local/10.0.1.4

And in the browser:
The requested application was not found on this server.

I see it has called my Application class but has not called the defaultAction
method of DirectAction where it would call Main.

In Application I have it tell me

Baiss has launched http://baissYi.local/cgi-bin/WebObjects/tyf on port 1085
Where 1085 is lifebeatDestinationPort()

The application runs when Debug from Eclipse, it seems the problem is a port
problem not a class loading problem?

My NSlog ( i internally turn on, looks like )

main Opening application's URL in browser:
http://baissYi.local/cgi-bin/WebObjects/tyf.woa/-64832
main null
main Waiting for requests...
***
Eclipse question:
When I right-click on NSLog I get NSLog.class in the window with a message
about finding the Change Attached Source… which doesn't seem to help as it
asks for a .jar.
Is this as good as it gets in Eclipse for getting to documentation; and thus I
have to have XCode open for the documentation?
***
and for wsresources.include.patterset I have:

WebServerResources/*/**/*

Yep, language is not a problem. I am pretty much French-free and had
a great time the two weeks that I spent in Quebec last year. Montreal
is a very cosmopolitan city, a mix of French, English, and people from
all corners of the planet. It is a lot of fun and there is lots to
see and do and eat and buy. There is all kinds of great food, I have
not even bothered to consider Indian there yet. My wife and I had a
great time and are looking forward to going back this year.

See you in Montreal!

Well, I said that I can't afford to go over there to look at hotels.
Last year we went to the Whitcomb because I was told that Net access
was really good by someone who went there in 2008, and everyone who
attended knows that Net access was more Net disconnect... When you
have to get up at 4am to get a slight chance of getting Wifi, that's
bad.

Here I get service, I can look at the rooms and try Net access BEFORE
signing the contract, Net access is free both inside the guest and the
meeting rooms, and I don't have to pay 30$ per day for a damn
powerbar, all advantages + it cost 30% less to do it here. Doing a 3
days/2 tracks session in SF would cost at least $200 more than here.

We do plan to go back to SF (or somewhere else on the west coast) in
2011 IF someone is willing to help me out to go to the hotels and find
a A/V provider. I'm a bit tired of having bad surprises (and bad
service) at the hotel every year.

RE: WOWODC 2010 : official date and venue

2009-11-19 Thread Beatty, Daniel D CIV NAVAIR, 474300D
Greetings Pascal,
Don't we have some fine WO developers working in the Bay Area? Admittedly, I
am current working with the Los Angeles area WO developers to get a gig going,
but that is another story. I would think our SF WO warriors could scout out
the hotels ahead of time, and know which one is what.

Then again, there is Vegas.

Subject: Re: WOWODC 2010 : official date and venue

Well, I said that I can't afford to go over there to look at hotels. Last year
we went to the Whitcomb because I was told that Net access was really good by
someone who went there in 2008, and everyone who attended knows that Net access
was more Net disconnect... When you have to get up at 4am to get a slight
chance of getting Wifi, that's bad.

Here I get service, I can look at the rooms and try Net access BEFORE signing
the contract, Net access is free both inside the guest and the meeting rooms,
and I don't have to pay 30$ per day for a damn powerbar, all advantages + it
cost 30% less to do it here. Doing a 3 days/2 tracks session in SF would cost
at least $200 more than here.

We do plan to go back to SF (or somewhere else on the west coast) in 2011 IF
someone is willing to help me out to go to the hotels and find a A/V provider.
I'm a bit tired of having bad surprises (and bad service) at the hotel every
year.

No WOWODC in SF? That's a shame.

-Lon

2009-11-19 Thread David Avendasora
Yeah, I was kinda hoping you'd be part of the advance team. :-) In a total
case of small-world, you are not the only person I know in GC.

The best part is I can totally justify several planning trips between now and
then!

Greetings all,
By the way, do we have any WO developers near the Las Vegas or Phoenix area? I
am currently working near enough to be in the So Cal WO Developer's Group and
LV WO Developer's Group if there were such a thing. LV would be a great place
for a mini-WOWODC.

Just a thought,

Re: unsupported class version error

2009-11-19 Thread Tim Worman
I am getting this error all-the-sudden and it appears to be related to this.

Obviously something's changed but I haven't changed my setup or installed any
new components/software. I have done WOLips updates. I did `file
WOBootstrap.class` and it returned version 49.0 (Java 1.5). It was the same
on the deployment machine. The JDK compliance in Eclipse is set to Java 1.5 on
my dev machine.

I've been banging my head against it and can't seem to figure what else I have
to do to get this to run - or why my compile products are different suddenly.

George Domurot and I just discovered that there is at least one
WOBoostrap.jar floating around the intertubes that was built with 1.6 and has
a 50.0 version number. Possibly this came from a Snow Leopard developer
preview? This file comes from whatever machine performed your build and
 typically is found in
 /System/Library/WebObjects/JavaApplications/wotaskd.woa/WOBoostrap.jar
(though the precise location is defined in your wolips.properties). I don't
know how widespread that 1.6 build is, but if you've got it, this might save
 you a lot of insanity.
