The Apple rules were written to avoid such horrors.

You all appear to have missed the clauses covering stylish hair,
personal jets and a playboy lifestyle that are essential parts of the
Apple developer contract. (*)

I want food, so I'm RSVPing.

As far as my presentation goes... I'll be covering all that and I thought I
would also do an exhaustive review of Ruby on Rails and compare and contrast it
to WonderObjects.

Or not.

I don't know that I want to re-write it, but there are bug fixes and

The question at this point is what would they gain by allowing it?

Does Apple really care? Yes I know that clause is in the license.
But does anyone really think that Apple would expend the effort to
come after someone who decided to develop WO on a generic linux box
instead of a Mac?

My sense is that we are so far outside their worldview that we don't
even rate the effort.

And as preemptive 'yes I understand that' statement: I do understand
that the fact that the clause is there is all it takes as a
deterrent for some, and I am not passing judgement.

I agree that Apple might not care at all, but I think the problem is more with
lawyers working at your organization that may say "you can't use this! Apple
will go after us! ".

Does Apple really care? Yes I know that clause is in the license. But does
anyone really think that Apple would expend the effort to come after someone
who decided to develop WO on a generic linux box instead of a Mac?

My sense is that we are so far outside their worldview that we don't even rate
the effort.

And as preemptive 'yes I understand that' statement: I do understand that the
fact that the clause is there is all it takes as a deterrent for some, and I am
not passing judgement.

Yes, we were all waiting for the unifying framework, the "write once,

I followed the croud and moved to C++ at that time, but still I don't see
the reason... Object Pascal was so good,
Borland themselves adopted the Object Pascal model, diverting from their
Turbo Pascal, for Delphi.
No doubt Delphi is still well alive.

For those of you scratching their heads...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedrock_(framework)

I didn't know that one! :) But Think C was nice, and CodeWarrior was awesome!
:) I still have both at home, some of my graduation projects were made using
CodeWarrior. Then, OS X showed up. :)

OpenDoc... was interesting, but very, very unstable at the time.

Hi everyone,

Your vision is too narrow. Apple _does_ give / sell their technologies to
other people and it has happened recently.

Squeak (Smalltalk) is a good example. Giving it to Walt Disney and also
the world at large:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squeak

Dylan is another example. Giving it to Harlequin:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Dylan_programming_language

There are other examples...

Someone has to give Apple a reason to sell WO.

Larry and Steve are good friends, after all...
Apple give up on the server business, so it will not compete with Oracle
(even if it wasn't that big competitor) and at the
same time, probably, fill up its new data center with Oracle kits. Oracle
need backing for the OpenJDK, especially in view
of their dispute with Google. So, it all makes sense.

Oracle and Apple Announce OpenJDK Project for Mac OS X

2010-11-12 Thread Pascal Robert
Good news everyone!

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/11/12openjdk.html

Oracle and Apple® today announced the OpenJDK project for Mac OS® X. Apple will
contribute most of the key components, tools and technology required for a Java
SE 7 implementation on Mac OS X, including a 32-bit and 64-bit HotSpot-based
Java virtual machine, class libraries, a networking stack and the foundation

You rock Hugi!

This is way more complete than I had come up with so far! Next on my list is to
D2Wify it for ERModernLook integration.

Oh, and if Maven hasn't finished with internet.jar, I'd like a Pony also.

Not for me, of course, but for David LeBer. He really wants one.

Seconded. I'm currently working at a company where I'm pretty free to use any
java libraries I want to. However, due to that rather silly "you have to
develop on a Mac"-clause in the WO license I *can't* introduce WO into the
environment, since we've got all types of computers. And this is frustrating,
because almost every day I find myself re-implementing functionality I could be
using from JavaFoundation and Project Wonder.

I honestly don't see what Apple gains by forbidding me and my coworkers to use
WO.

*sigh*. I keep having these wet dreams where I check wo-dev and find that
Apple's stuck JavaFoundation, WO and EOF up on github.

Cheers,

Hey David,
I made you this while waiting for Maven to download internet.jar.

The .html is just bare bones, though - you'll have to add your own css.

Enjoy,

Two new podcasts from WOWODC 2010

2010-11-12 Thread Pascal Robert
Hello everyone,

Just the vast majority of the community is using Wonder, we are releasing the
Getting Started with Project Wonder recording from WOWODC 2011 for free. It's a
really good intro to Wonder and to properties management. Many thanks to Kieran
for this!

Also, you will find a recording of Aurélien Minet's presentation of the
Cocktail Association ERP for high education. It might be one of the biggest WO
installation outside Apple, and it's open source too.

Just a note about the Cocktail presentation. I can't view the video in iTunes
or QT Player 7, but it works in Safari or the new QuickTime Player. I don't
know why since I can play the source works in QT Player 7. Maybe a 10.6.5 bug
or something. So if you can't view it in iTunes, open it up in QT Player.

Re: Ajaxy WOBrowser-based ToMany Editor

2010-11-12 Thread David Avendasora
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm working on implementing. I was just wondering if
anyone else had already done it in a nice CSS/Ajaxy way so I could get a jump
start.

I'm trying to put it together in such a way that it is generic enough that it
would work for anyone so it can be easily dropped in to any project.
