I get this with MySQL too.

On Jan 16, 2009, at 6:35 AM, Theodore Petrosky wrote:

I know this was asked and I didn't get a reply that really worked.

Postgresql has a column type called 'text'. This is basically a
varchar with no upper limit (very simplified).

When I select in EOModeler a longText column, it select an external
type as 'text'. So far so good.

However when I have the system create the migration for me I get an
entry like this:

toolsTable.newStringColumn("c_tool_description", ${attribute.width},
false);

There is no 'size' for a text column and of course this will fail.
Is there anything I can do? Obviously I am looking for something
like this:

toolsTable.newTextStringColumn("c_tool_description", false);

I just made that up. Am I doing something wrong?

Replicating iTunes Smart List in WO?

Is it possible to use several WOAnyFields to change what is displayed

+ - [age] [greater] 30

Where clicking on the + button will add a new search field and
clicking on the - button will delete the selected search field.

Component To Component Communication?

2008-12-08 Thread Jerome Chan

Is there a simple way to do component to component communication?

I have a page with a menu component and a object display component. I
want to be able to call a method in the object display component from
the menu component. My first thought is to have something like a
controller in the enclosing page where my object display component
would register with. Then my menu component would simply invoke the
controller to call the object display component.

Actually, it looks to me like you're building maybe against a

fErrors is actually a Vector, which has a lastElement method. List
doesn't, and maybe a later version of TestResult switched to List?

WODisplay stringQualifierOperators

2008-10-20 Thread Jerome Chan
I've tried constructing a EOQualifier with the string "name starts
with 'P'" and am trying to use that on my WODisplay object but it
returns an empty list. When I use all the other
stringQualifierOperators except for "contains" I get empty results.
When I use "contains" I get the expected result. Anyone come across
this behaviour? I'm using Project Wonder, MySQL (which shouldn't be
the cause since the filtering is done in memory, right?) and the
WODisplay object is created automatically by WebObjects.

this in absolute terms ( don't you just *love* the word absolute

could someone please be so kind to point me in the right direction

Or should I write some pure EOF code like: Fetch -> Check
uniqueness -> Create new record -> Save -> Fetch -> Check, or
something along those lines?

I don't know about you but this just screams race condition to me.
However unlikely it may be to happen trying to do uniqueness without
using an atomic operation is extremely painful to get right, and
difficult to test properly.

This would assume that I know which attributes should be unique in
code, which can be done. I'd rather not deal with this like this,
it seems a nuisance.
