out of memory (wo 5.3)
Hi All, I'm getting out of memory exceptions in my app. I do need to go through it and see if there is anything I can do to manage memory better, but until then, I tried increasing the memory of the JVM. I did it by adding -Xmx256M -Xms128m to the Additional Arguments section of the apps configuration in Monitor. When I check the running processes using ps axwww | grep Xmx I see my app but it has two occurrences as you can see below. java -XX:NewSize=2m -Xmx64m -Xms32m -DWORootDirectory=/System - DWOLocalRootDirectory= -DWOUserDirectory=/System/Library/WebObjects/ JavaApplications/wotaskd.woa -DWOEnvClassPath= - DWOApplicationClass=gov.maine.oit.BailMonitor.Application - DWOPlatform=MacOS -Dcom.webobjects.pid=9181 - DNSDebugLevel=NSLog.DebugLevelCritical -Xmx256M -Xms128m I'm questioning which of those is taken. I would think that the arguments are checked as they are encountered and that the last one is the one used but I don't know any way to be sure. Can anyone confirm that the Additional Arguments section in Monitor is the right place to put that and that it is the last argument that takes effect? Re: WWDC Security concern
Oh man, is it really so bad that you should be in a cab? I'm staying at 610 Geary (Geary and Leavonworth) which looks to be just inside the Tenderloin. Last year, I stayed over at 7th and Howard and didn't have any trouble. I found this (http://www.sfgate.com/traveler/guide/ sf/neighborhoods/tenderloin.shtml). It looks like it could be a fun neighborhood. I was planning on walking around. Marc On Jul 18, 2006, at 3:08 PM, Alan Ward wrote: Hang on a minute... Re: WWDC WO Meet
The Thirsty Bear is a great place and for goodness sake, $20? Take the train from SFO to the City and you can save 20. :). $20 sounds like a bargain to me, not a show stopper. Unless I missed something and there's going to be some need for 100 singles (in which, case I'm still going) ;) As far as I'm concerned, it's a chance to meet people and talk. I'm not a huge drinker and I don't need wifi but food is always welcome and the Thirsty Bear has great food and it's a cool place. My customer is going to be there too so I'll be sure she signs up but I'm putting in a vote for the Thirsty Bear. Marc On Jul 12, 2006, at 5:53 PM, Joe Little wrote: Dully noted, but after Chucks comment, the open mic thing sounds more intrigueing :) However, I looked into Thirsty Bear. Because of our size we can comfortably get the billiard room for free, but the catch is the minimal payment stuff: Snip Food and Beverage Minimums: Food minimum requirement is $20.00++ per person. We recommend a minimum of $20.00++ per person for an appetizer reception or lunch and $30.00++ to $50.00++ minimum for dinner. Beverage requirements and options are outlined on the attached beverage information sheet. All menu selections must be made one week prior to the event date. Final guest count must be made three business days prior to the date of the event. /Snip I wonder if we can do much less per person (~$15) for ~50-60 people, if its drinks and perhaps one ordered appetizer. The idea being people are throwing $10 to at least one drink, and $5 up front no matter what for the appetizer. I'll call them. Instead of us all trying to find a good pub that has room for us, etc, would it not be reasonable to just have a reception at the King George meeting room. We can get bar service or something like that. Selection, of course, may not be as wide, but it may be the easier thing to do: http://www.kinggeorge.com/meetingroom.html My only concern is that it might be a bit small if 60 of us show up. Yes, we'd need to see if spill over in to the hall is ok. I'm just not sure we'd have all 60 at once, which would still make it work. The other far flung idea is to get Apple to let us take over the Apple store there or some room at Moscone. More removed from the drinks/food, but we'd then have to get that in. I think the ideal situation is the pub.. I was the one who suggested 21st Amendment, but we'd definitely be in the private area or require the entire place to reserved, and we are talking at least $500 up front plus up front pre-purchased appetizer (at least 1) -- my guess is $1K or more down. $20 a person if 50 show. The $20 a person might keep some people away. Maybe we should just mob a bar again. :-) As I was saying, idealy we'd love a pub, but I don't know of anything that fits 50+ at this stage. So, I'm asking the list if its better that we stick to a pub/bar and demand a certain amount of cash up front to get one (Again, perhaps Joshua Marker has done some magic), or we give up on that dream and try to simply get a good BOF gathering with Apple's assistance and do what we can do to drinks/etc in. Someone recommended another place that they knew the owner of, and there was mention of Joshua Marker looking as well. So, that's the status as such. Of course, we can make this the official pre- press signing of Chuck's and Sacha's book event :) That would be more than a little premature. :-) Chuck What, 4 months until I get the book on Amazon (by the time of WWDC), and there is still nothing to show for it?? :) ___ Do not post admin requests to the list. Re: Problems with building WebService
Jar files are a real travesty but one thing you can exploit is that the name of a jar doesn't matter. What I do is install WebObjects and then label everything in /Library/WebObjects/Extensions so I know what jars were put there by the WO install. Then I renamed all the jars that WebObjects put there by prefixing wo- to the name. I don't put anything in /Library/Java/Extensions either. I did pull saaj.jar and replaced it with the saaj jars from JWSDP 2.0 and I'm not having any conflicts. I think saaj has a validating parser that I needed but the one that ships with WO doesn't validate. Renaming all the jars really helps when I look on the server and don't know for sure if the jar has been updated. Re: Deserializers for NSArray, NSDictionary
I do this except that I pass strings and use NSPropertyListSerialization. WebObjects creates ASCII plists when you invoke toString() and Cocoa figures out the format. WebObjects' NSPropertyListSerialization handles XML and ASCII plists. NSData *data = [propertyListXML dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSString *errorString = nil; NSPropertyListFormat format; // will contain the format id propertyList = [NSPropertyListSerialization propertyListFromData:data mutabilityOption:NSPropertyListMutableContainersAndLeaves format:format errorDescription:errorString]; In WebObjects, it's a little easier Object plist = NSPropertyListSerialization.propertyListFromString (plistString); I like this because I stick with a standard built-in WebSerices type (String) and both frameworks already have serialization and deserialization built-in so I just use what's there. Don't fight the frameworks ;). Marc On May 24, 2006, at 11:41 AM, Frank Herzog wrote: Hi all, I'm trying to build a WO web services application with a Cocoa client. Can't find records in Oracle?
Hi All, My app cannot find records that exist using the fetch spec that I have. I develop locally using OpenBase and then move the app to our test box using Oracle. My fetch spec is ((payDate = $payDate) and ((sent = 0) or (sent = nil)) and ((objectCode = $code1) or (objectCode = $code2))) I turned on eo debugging and see the SQL below generated which returns zero rows.
