[libreoffice-website] multilingual

2011-02-24 Thread Karl-Heinz Gödderz
Hello,

I found on the challenge website:

"Available translations of this page: French, German, Greek, Portuguese
(Brazil), Russian, Spanish"

Its a kind of amusing to see I have to know German means deutsch, French
means francaise(?) and for all a Greek person has to know their
langugename in Latin letters instead of Greek letters same as a Russian
person has to know the latin translation for his Cyrillic letters. This
also applies to all Arabic, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese people (and
many others I forgot or even don't know).

Is it possible to create for each language the corespondent text in its
original letters and include these into the Site?

Greetings
Karl-Heinz

But you got the advantage/benefit not to have to translate all the pages

This is *not* the English NL site.

This is the *_Inter_national* site.

This is the difference, some people are trying to tell here since a long
time.

Therefore is a national marketing in each region, to be coordinated on
an international list.

And USA is not better or more important than any other region, so it has
to be named on the international site and others not.

could be both.

but in the followig text you say the old is always the better.
and that is not what I think is true.

I think Sophie has her experiences in nativ language support. David is a
newbie in this.
But he can possibly give the look(?) of a person who is not so familiar
with the subject, and gives a more "naive"(?) point of view to the theme(?).

As in the past when I entered OOo there were so much information and
sometimes so bone-crushing(?) with insider-knowing I couldnt understand
what was said.

Therefore I think we should get the drafts of both to see. As in another
mail of this thread was said, possily make two pages, one for beginners
who want to join the project and another for people who select
NL-support as their special place.

I fear you are right with this. This is my perception too. The same
seems to be in the discussion on maillist vs. forum, someone in the

I hope the SC can clarify this point and correct me.

Else we would have left OOo because of a "dictatorial" behavior of

Wasn't there a special proceeding planned for mailing lists? like the

Hi,

Michael,

on another list I read about a mailing list/forum system

- one could join the forum by signing in with a chosen ID and a Password.
- when you first sent a message to the list, it made an ID from the
senders emailadress

- each message was stored like a forums post under the corresponding
thread(>Header<) in the sub forum(>Listname<)
- each forum post was sent as an email.

and users could choose if they wanted a specific list to use as forum or
a mailing list

even the mailinglistusers could use the forum by asking a password for
their generated ID

can this be realised by Drupal?

so each one can use the same Information in the way she/he likes most.

just a thought

Why not have a www-version with the xxx-en.html, xxx-fr.html and
