Re: [weewx-user] Weatherapp for Android

Yes WU are changing things and you may have to pay a fee in the future.
Have you tried looking at your website from your android phone? The
template morphs into a mobile format. I am not an Android user but on my
iPhone I a have the facility to effectively change a web destination into
an app by saving its favicon to the homepage. This creates an icon that
then works like an app.

[weewx-user] Weatherapp for Android

2019-01-25 Thread 'Johannes Ebner' via weewx-user
Hi,

Currently I am using an Android App (Wetterstation) which queries the Infos
of my weatherstation from Wunderground. As wunderground is not performing
so good anymore since last autuum (longer delay on updates) I am searching
for an alternative solution.

What do I want to achieve:
A nice Weatherapp on my Nexus 7inch (similar to wetterstation) which shows
the current, min/max and forcasted weatherinformation from my home
weatherstation.

Either via another weather-broker (like wunderground) or directly from my
weewx installation.

Any ideas?

Best Regards,
Johannes

Thank you both for your help.I seem to be up and running now without
any hitches apart from some lost data. Thanks again, I will know what to do
now if happens again.

2019-01-25 Thread Thomas Keffer
Another option is to use the --dump

command. It will download *all* data in the logger. It results in a *lot* of
"duplicate primary key" errors, but will save your data.

Unfortunately, you can only use it before --clear-memory.

Ok, so archive records are being saved and pages being generated with current
data? The log in your previous post still showed an archive record being
skipped at 13:20:00.

Annoying to lose data but sometimes it happens, doing the dump before you do
anything destructive dumps all of the archive records out of the logger and any
that are not in your archive are saved to archive, any that are already in your
archiv are ignored (well you get a duplicate key error). From my limited
experience a dump tends to result in loss of maybe one or two records only
unless something catastrophic has occurred. It seems that the archive record is
still saved in the logger it just doesn't send it to WeeWX when weeWX asks for
it. Having an envoy may be slightly different, I don't have one, Tom may be
able to shed some more light on it.

Not sure what you meant about deleting records. Did you mean your archive or
the logger/envoy? As far as I know it's all or nothing in terms of clearing the
logger/envoy. And you weren't getting any records into your archive.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Daily report

2019-01-25 Thread Glenn McKechnie
Another approach to the Archive record pages that Wview provided.

https://github.com/glennmckechnie/weewx-wxobs

It queries the weewx database directly and generates the page when
requested, there are no archived pages.

A local setup (database and webserver on the same machine) should work
straight after installation (using wee_extension)
A remote setup (weewx and webserver are seperate machines), takes a
little more configuring to get running. An sqlite database is know to
work. MySQL' should' work but I haven't done it, and there's been no
comment if someone has.

A live page using the remote setup (weewx and webserver on seperate
machines) with a small sqlite database that goes back to ~Feb 2018 can
be found at ...
http://203.213.243.61/weewx/wxobs/index.php
Configuration options in skin.conf allow delta-T columns and Apptemp
to be skipped/replaced.

If you use that page and a recent date returns an error about "...no
data to display" then it's because the stations cables did battle
with a mower and lost, there truly is no data. :-(

OK, we are back up after wee-device --clear-memory. Lost 12 hours of data
though.maybe should have tried deleting the records with time stamp
older than X.

2019-01-25 Thread gjr80
Yep, no 13:00:00 archive record (REC: ) so all the symptoms of corrupt station
memory. Not sure how different things are with an envoy. I would run through
the 'Corrupt station memory' section of one of the links I gave you. Before
doing anything destructive trying dumping the station memory (there is a link
there in the Corrupt station memory section). This will help minimise any data
loss when you reset the logger (in your case the envoy). Note weeWX must be
stopped when you dump the memory.

[weewx-user] Re: Getting the RPi 3 with Davis Vantage up and running

2019-01-25 Thread gjr80
Yes, you appear to be getting loop packets. Corrupt station memory usually
results in loop packets continuing to come through but there are no archive
records coming from the logger. If you are using hardware record generation
then WeeWX gets no archive records, nothing is saved to database but reports
are still generated and anything 'loop based' still goes on. The proof will be
a longer console output (are there any archive records?) or a longer log
extract.

If corrupt station memory it will be unrelated to any perceived RPi power
issues.

One bit of advice re logs; small extracts (a few lines) often give the error
message but not much else, but it is a longer extract, say over a couple of
archive periods that give a clue as to the cause of the error.

You can run WeeWX directly
(http://weewx.com/docs/usersguide.htm#Running_directly) to see loop and archive
data on screen. The other thing to do is look at the logs over at least a few
archive periods, you will likely see reports being run but no data being saved

have had a mains power outage, have a read through this

Correct -- the barometer is calculated by the console. So what you have now
are 2 different readings, 1 from the console and the one calculated by
weewx.

 Adnan,

Yes I can confirm that you can run weather34 alongside any other
skin. The install process is slightly different from a regular weeWX
 skin
but it works just fine with any other skin alongside.

Its on a pole the reading is correct on the main display, it all happened
after i re-calibrated barometer relative pressure on the display unit , it
looks like weewx is calculating something else, but MQTT gets the correct
reading, right now the reading on the display unit is 1019.6

That's odd. Did you mount the WS on a pole or is it still laying on the
roof ?

Yes I can confirm that you can run weather34 alongside any other skin.
The install process is slightly different from a regular weeWX skin but it
works just fine with any other skin alongside.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Daily report

2019-01-25 Thread Paul R Anderson
Hi Julian,
Welcome to weeWx! I migrated from Wview to weeWx and missed missed the NOAA
Daily Report as well. As Tom said one thing to keep in mind is that you
will have 365 files for every year in your database, I have attached the
NOAA--MM-DD.txt.tmpl that I wrote. You may find it useful as a starting
point for yours. Not using the standard skin on my site so I just use a
pretty standard java-script drop down file selector on my sites Station
Report page .
Station Reports http://pauland.net/wxclimatologicalreports.php

Example NOAA DAILY output:

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Reliable Switch to MySQL?

2019-01-25 Thread Cycle London
Hi Cameron,

Thanks for this. Just snapshotting my VMs as we speak, and then going to
try the flip. One thing ...

***

irst, verify that the MySQLdb python package is installed:

python -c "import MySQLdb"

If this results in an import error

ImportError: No module named MySQLdb

then install the MySQLdb package.

***

Is that on the weewx VM or on the database VM?

Neither actually has it. Both are CentOS. I'll need to install but on
which?

I actually downloaded the DB Browser for SQL lite. A curious thing
happened. Quite interested to see all the fields that are not being used.
Soil temperature, etc. I think I might need to invest in some new kit...
:-)

2019-01-25 Thread Julian Pilfold-Bagwell
Hi Thomas,

Brilliant, thanks for that. The dailies are useful in a school so it's
something that would be missed. I've got a 95MB SQLite database so I'll
probably convert it to MySQL before I have add any more load to it and if I
get it done, I'll post the updated files so others can pick it up if they
want to.

Thanks again,

Julian

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Daily report

2019-01-25 Thread Andrew Milner
No, you cannot do that for the simple reason that the drop downs are
actually displaying the NOAA reports, and are not doing database record
retrieval - so you are not browsing the database at all.

My 'standard' front page has current, week, month and year buttons. In what
way is your front page different??

andrewmilner.online

I also use the Bootstrap skin - which again shows the four varieties:

weather.andrewmilner.online

so I am not too sure exactly what you are trying to say is missing!!!

[weewx-user] Daily report

2019-01-25 Thread Julian Pilfold-Bagwell
Hi All,

Am in the process of migrating from WView onto a Weewx box, but I've
noticed that there are only monthly and Annual record buttons on the front
page of Weewx, whereas WView has a daily summary - browse archive button
that will dump the whole day's reading into a single display.

Is there a hidden button that I'm not seeing or if not, is this a feature
planned for the future?

Thanks,

Julian PB
