 Thanks for your answer.

 Upgrading to version 1.1b9 seems to have solved the problem with the
 funny characters and the wind directions. I still have an issue with the
 Windrose. as you can see here:

 Thanks for your support and for this skin.

This was an interesting one because of Python 2 and Python 3 unicode slight
differences and accommodating both. I think I've solved it based on your
directions
example. Re-download the development branch again
,
re-install it, and restart weewx. See if that helps.

Re: [weewx-user] 4 beta test report

2020-03-07 Thread Thomas Keffer
Hi, Greg

weewx V4 uses a new logging facility, Python's module 'logging', which
requires that one set up logging handlers. The handler "syslog" is designed
to (roughly) emulate the previous syslog logging. To set it up, you must
specify a destination (called 'address') and a 'facility', which vary from
OS to OS. I suspect that the defaults that weewx is picking for NetBSD are
wrong.

Take a look at the top of file weeutil/logger.py where these destinations
are coded in. It looks like:

if sys.platform == "darwin":
address = '/var/run/syslog'
facility = 'local1'
elif sys.platform.startswith('linux'):
address = '/dev/log'
facility = 'user'
elif sys.platform.startswith('freebsd'):
address = '/var/run/log'
facility = 'user'
else:
address = ('localhost', 514)
facility = 'user'

I don't know which branch NetBSD would take. Either 'freebsd' or the
default, I imagine. Obviously, what it's choosing isn't working out.
Perhaps you can supply an alternative for NetBSD? It may be as simple as a
different file path for 'address'.

[weewx-user] Re: wind speed wrong (kph/miles)

2020-03-07 Thread Cameron D
Hello Stephan,
I am still not sure why you think your station was reading 100km/h. I
wonder if the following could explain the discrepancy...

If that speed came from official weather reports, then their standard (in
many countries) requires that they are measured in open flat areas with the
anemometer 10m above ground level. Wind speed decreases as you get closer
to the ground.

Also, the presence of buildings, trees and so on, creates a much more
turbulent flow. The wind can have as much energy but lower measured speeds
are recorded since vertical components are not normally measured by home
instruments.

[weewx-user] 4 beta test report

2020-03-07 Thread Greg Troxel
I just updated to the tip of master (plus a local commit to change
prefix to /usr/weewx). After installing, weewxd crashes on boot trying
to set up the backup logger. I am unclear on what's going on here and
starting to read code.

I wonder if there are some Linux path assumptions hard-coded in, but
that's an unsubstantiated guess. Does this work ok for everybody else?

My system in NetBSD8, earmv7hf-el (RPI3), and has been running weewx
3.9.x and earlier just fine for just over 2 years.

The system does have working syslog, and lines have been appearing in
/var/log/messages via syslog, when I was running 3.9.2:

  Mar  7 20:25:28 wx weewx[1249]: rsyncupload: rsync'd 17 files (83,033 bytes)
in 0.82 seconds
  Mar 7 20:30:14 wx weewx[1249]: engine: Main loop exiting. Shutting engine
down.

  Mar 7 20:30:15 wx weewx[1249]: engine: Terminating weewx version 3.9.2

The crash looks like:

  $ bin/weewxd
  Traceback (most recent call last):

File "bin/weewxd", line 80, in main

The --reconfigure does a --drop-daily in effect. When it's done you have
just an archive table there. So you need to do --rebuild-daily it seems.

I suppose you could always keep your existing archive_day_* tables and try
to overwrite the ones you had before, if you were gutsy. I didn't try that
when I did mine. I'm assuming it effectively just adds new tables for the
extended elements, but I don't know how accurate that assumption is.

That's why we make VMs to play in :-)

Re: [weewx-user] Update Isses: WeeWX generates HTML pages, but it does not update them (From the user manual)

2020-03-07 Thread gjr80
As I look at your site now the plots are updating every five minutes and
appear to contain current data. I was going to reply that with the plots
you need to be mindful that different plots update at different intervals;
daily plots update every report cycle (in your case five minutes), weekly
every hour, monthly every three hours and yearly every 24 hours. You can
force them all to regenerate on the next report cycle by deleting all the
generated images. But then again as far as I can tell your site only
displays the daily plots.

Let me know if I have misunderstood the plot issue you mentioned.

[weewx-user] Re: Belchertown, MQTT and Danish Characters

2020-03-07 Thread Pat
I don't know what's causing that one. Those labels come from weewx.conf
under StdReport -> Defaults -> Units -> Ordinates -> directions or under
skin.conf Units -> Ordinates -> directions.

Do you have special characters in this variable in either of these files?

I thought a release of V4 would be real soon, but we ran into lots of
packaging hassles supporting such a wide matrix of possibilities. Now I'm
looking at a much simpler strategy, but it will take time. Patience!

2020-03-07 Thread Gert Andersen
Hi Pat

Thanks for your answer.

Upgrading to version 1.1b9 seems to have solved the problem with the funny
characters and the wind directions. I still have an issue with the
Windrose. as you can see here:

Thanks for your support and for this skin.

This looks great Vince, and thanks for sharing your results!

Is this something that we can apply our existing v3 systems now, or do we
have to wait until v4 is released?

Speaking of which, can anyone (developers perhaps?) advise as to an
official release time frame for weewx v4? Is it soon or still down the

 Hi,

 Your daily summaries believe they were updated after the most recent
 record in the archive. Try rebuilding the daily summaries using
 wee_database (

[weewx-user] weewx v4 new extended schema - so good !

2020-03-07 Thread vince
I switched my weewx box running the beta over to the new extended schema.
 This is great stuff.

Here's an example of what you can do with it. This is a grafana dashboard
overlaying maxSolarRad as calculated by weewx with sensor readings from
three different WeatherFlow stations. It's more data for the vendor to
help tweak their sensors 'continuous learning' tunings. (I'm a beta
tester)

New weewx systems running v4 will get the new extended schema by default.

Existing weewx systems have a few steps to update to the new schema, if you
choose to do so:

   - stop weewx
   - wee_database --reconfigure
   - wee_database --rebuld-daily
   - copy the modified db into place
   - start weewx

The two wee_database commands take quite some time depending on your
hardware and amount of data. On my Seagate Dockstar (super old pogoplug
clone basically with all ram used) it took over 90 minutes to reconfigure
the db. I have 11 years of data however, so it's a lot of records.

When I did the same thing in a VM running on my i3 NUC and it took only 3
minutes. The rebuild_daily also took 3 minutes there. I then copied the
file back to my wimpy weewx system and it ran just fine.

Bottom line, throw hardware at the conversion if you can, if you have lots
of old data.

Unfortunately, no. The Cheetah template engine is not used for graph

Re: [weewx-user] Add an additional sensor

2020-03-07 Thread Thomas Keffer
Don't have time to debug your code, but, as written, it will open and read
the socket only once, when your module is loaded. Then, never again. Maybe
that's what you want, maybe it isn't.

Open the socket in the __init__() function, then read it in the
new_archive_record() function.

[weewx-user] Graphs with command in the Bottom Label

2020-03-07 Thread Meteo Oberwallis

Hi there.Is it possible to insert the station and the height in the graphic
based on these variables? Then the template could also be used for other
stations without having to adjust everything every time.
