[weewx-user] Re: Tiny letters despite font being installed

2021-03-08 Thread Michael

This is what your page looks like after you open it. Everything OK

[image: Screenshot 2021-03-09 085408.png]

But I still have one question:
How did you integrate the tabular weather data: "Current Weather", "Last 24
hours" etc.?
Are the live data also included there?

Re: [weewx-user] Which Raspberry Pi to use? Will more memory help at all?

2021-03-08 Thread michael.k...@gmx.at
It depends. If you are using the PI as a "one for all" device for, weewx,
home automation, media server, run several other services the pi4 with
enough RAM makes sense. Otherwise I'd choose the PI with the least energy
consumption. Running a PI4 24/7/365 for nothing more than weewx is wasting
resources. Or maybe you are running a NAS that allows you to run weewx?
Then you wouldn't need a pi at all.

 Yeah, I'm putting it in a Argon ONE M.2 case which has a built-fan.
 From my experience, just setting a Pi4 on edge is usually enough so it can
 radiate from the top and bottom surfaces, but for this I want to give it a
 bit of protection from dust build-up.

 With the firmware updates over the past year, the RPi4 is not as
 sensitive as it originally was.

2021-03-08 Thread gjr80
Anything will do, no grunt needed, all you need is a terminal program of
some sort, minicom will do the job on anything Linux. Windows used to come
with some sort of terminal program. Not sure about a Mac. Certainly no need
to install WeeWX, you just want to run the connectivity test with your
Envoy(s) to prove it(they) respond(s).

2021-03-08 Thread gjr80
OK. Let's forget about the browser for the time being and work with the
files in /home/weewx/public_html, get them right and the browser will fall
into place. Since you have made various changes to where WeeWX generated
files are going, but seem to have that set correctly now, go ahead and
delete everything in /home/weewx/public_html. Everything includes files and
directories. WeeWX will re-generate it all on the next report cycle, then
next report cycle might take a little longer depending on how much
historical data you have as WeeWX will re-generate all NOAA format files.
No need to stop/start or restart WeeWX, just make sure that you get
everything deleted before a report cycle starts and not during.

Monitor the log and once that next report cycle has completed have a look
at what files/directories are where in /home/weewx/public_html and when are
they timestamped.

Re: [weewx-user] Belchertown skin not linked to nginx

2021-03-08 Thread David Prellwitz
Gary:
no joy. changed weewx.conf to show Belchertown HTML_ROOT as you suggested
("/home/weewx/public_html/weewx/belchertown"), stopped weewx, started
weewx, ran weewx status. waited for updates, browsed to
http://192.168.86.28/weewx and got the original weewx skin with correct
info. Then browsed to http://192.168.86.28/weewx/belchertown and got the
old belchertown skin with March 6, 2021 at 1:55 pm. (Same problem i started
with.) no errors or problems indicated on syslog, debug or messages. I
checked the file/directory structure in /home/weewx/public_html and see
that there is a belchertown and a weewx subdirectories. However, the files
in /home/public_html/belchertown show a date of Mar 6, 2021 at 13:55 - same
as the offending pages. When i checked the .../public_html/belchertown
directory, However, there is NOT a
/home/weewx/publich_html/weewx/belchertown subdirectory.

More interesting stuff: i looked at the index.html file in
"../public_html/weewx" directory and it has the correct belchertown
date/time and it contains the corrected labels/headers and chart specifics
i'd modified. When i looked at the index.html file in
"../public_html/belchertown" directory it contains the March 6 layout
(first modifications to only change the title name). Whatever is happening
means wherever weewx is putting the html files for the newer Belchertown
files is not the same place that the web engine (nginx) is not picking them
up from.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Replaced Davis Envoy (tripping) and replaced with another - no connection

2021-03-08 Thread gjr80
Possibly, but if you are using the same RPi with the same cable as you have
used with your new unresponsive Envoy then perhaps the issue is with the
RPi or the cable. I would be looking for another RPi or PC (Windows (ugh),
Mac or whatever) and run a terminal window/program and do the basic
connectivity test (send ENTER and get a response from the Envoy). I would
even try a different cable if you have another. Two different
RPis/PCs/cables etc not working would be unusual. If that fails to get a
response from your new Envoy then as Tom said it's time to get in touch
with Davis or their agent.

Re: [weewx-user] Belchertown skin not linked to nginx

2021-03-08 Thread gjr80
David,

Looking at a generated web page is looking at the end product, there are a
whole pile of intermediate steps before you get there. Best to work through
from the beginning to locate where the issue is.

>From your log extract it appears that your system is obtaining data from
your station, saving it to archive and running reports as expected. So no
problems there. Looking at your [StdReport] stanza in weewx.conf you have:

[StdReport]
# Where the skins reside, relative to WEEWX_ROOT
SKIN_ROOT = skins

[[Belchertown]]
skin = Belchertown
HTML_ROOT = /home/weewx/public_html/weewx
[[[Extras]]]

footer_copyright_text = "BelchertownWeather.com"
forecast_enabled = 1
forecast_api_id = "obfuscated"
forecast_api_secret = "obfuscated"
earthquake_enabled = 1
earthquake_server = USGS
twitter_enabled = 0
belchertown_debug = 1

# Where the generated reports should go, relative to WEEWX_ROOT
# HTML_ROOT = /home/weewx/public_html/weewx

# The database binding indicates which data should be used in reports.
data_binding = wx_binding

# Whether to log a successful operation
log_success = True

# Whether to log an unsuccessful operation
log_failure = True

# Each of the following subsections defines a report that will be run.
# See the customizing guide to change the units, plot types and line
# colors, modify the fonts, display additional sensor data, and other
# customizations. Many of those changes can be made here by overriding
# parameters, or by modifying templates within the skin itself.

[[SeasonsReport]]
# The SeasonsReport uses the 'Seasons' skin, which contains the
# images, templates and plots for the report.
skin = Seasons
enable = true

The issue I can see is that you have the Belchertown skin and the Seasons
skin both sending their generated output to the same directory. Not a
problem in itself but if there are any files of the same name generated by
both skins then the Seasons skin version will overwrite the Belchertown
version (skins are processed in the order they appear in [StdReport]). In
your case both skins produce index.html so the Belchertown index.html will
always be overwritten. Depending on how your web server is setup you either
won't be able to view the Belchertown main page or you will see an old
version; you definitely will not see a current Belchertown index.html. You
have two options; (1) turn off the Seasons skin with enable = False or (2)
send the output of each skin to a different directory. To do the latter
change the HTML_ROOT setting under [[Belchertown]], perhaps to
/home/weewx/public_html/weewx/belchertown.

The other side of the equation is your web server. You are not having WeeWX
FTP or Rsync any files so I presume your web server is on your WeeWX
machine. In that case you should be able to configure your web server to
serve files from /home/weewx/public_html. Depending on how you set the web
server up and where you have WeeWX save your Belchertown files you should
be able to access both the Seasons skin and Belchertown skin files from
browser using an address like http://web_server_address/weewx and
http://web_server_address/weewx/belchertown. Exactly what goes after the
web server address depends on how you configure WeeWX HTML_ROOT and how you
setup your web server.

See how you go and get back to us if you have problems.

In terms of numbers of files generated and copied, use that as a guide
only. The number of files generated can vary depending on settings in
skin.conf, if analysed in conjunction with the skin.conf settings you can
draw some detailed conclusions but otherwise just treat it as an indication
that 'the skin is being run'. Likewise copied files, it can be quite normal
to have zero files copied even though the skin is generating numerous
files. It all depends on how the copy generator is configured; the main
purpose of the copy generator is not for copying skin generated files it is
more for copying static or non-WeeWX generated files.

[weewx-user] Re: Installing Weewx on a Raspberry Pi with a Weatherlink Live

2021-03-08 Thread gjr80
It really is just a two step process; first install WeeWX and make sure it
is working error free with the simulator and second install the Weather
Link Live driver of your choice. The WeeWX install instructions should be
pretty clear and are well trod. There are five Weather Link Live drivers
listed in the wiki and each
seems to have reasonable installation instructions. Be aware though that
only three of them have marked as tested under WeeWX4/python3; that doesn't
mean the others won't work under WeeWX4/python3, just that they may not
have been tested under WeeWX4/python3 and certainly they have not been
marked as tested.

 There is no step by step installation instruction that I am aware of for
weewx with the weather link live extension. I installed weewx for my Davis
Vantage Vue and Weather Link Live by following the directions given by
weewx and by the maker of the Weather Link Live extension that I used. It's
not very difficult. I would say that you give it a shot and if you run into
any issues, then ask for assistance with the specific issue that you are
having.

Good luck.

Re: [weewx-user] Which Raspberry Pi to use? Will more memory help at all?

2021-03-08 Thread galfert
I think the Pi with 4 GB RAM makes the most sense. You never know what else
you may want to throw at that Pi to do simultaneously with WeeWX. Maybe you
want to run Cumulus MX at the same time. Or maybe something better comes
along now that the Pi 4 B has been around for almost 2 years. Then if you
have a Pi 4 with 4 GB RAM it can be more useful for a future project. The 8
GB version is a bit too much of a price premium for futureproofing. The 4
GB version is the sweet spot.

Re: [weewx-user] New weather station UK

Oh and I forgot to mention that you can get the GW1000 from Ecowitt if the
FO Clone brand of the station and display do not offer it. It will work as
long as the frequency is the same. Your choices of frequency are 433, 868,
and 915 MHz.

For example if you buy the Watson and they don't offer the GW1000 (or the
WH2650) then you can just get this added part from Ecowitt.

2021-03-08 Thread galfert
Newer Fine Offset clones from the various resellers have all been tested. I
recommend that you reference this product matrix to learn what works with
what.
https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40730.0

My recommendation between the Fine Offset clones and the CCL and UCTECH
clones is to stick to the Fine Offset clones. I think they offer better
displays and better sensors and more options and better compatibility with
WeeWX with new drivers that pick up all these optional sensors. The WeeWX
driver to use is the GW1000 API driver. Which means that no matter which
display console you get, or maybe you don't get a display at all, then all
that matters is that you also include the GW1000 are part of the hardware
set of parts. It doesn't matter if you get the Watson WS8686 or the Froggit
HP1000SE PRO or whatever other Fine Offset clone...the only thing that
matters is that you also include the GW1000 (or its sibling WH2650 which
also support the same GW1000 API protocol).

Whatever you decide, the old WH1080 has been surpassed by 4 generations of
hardware with many improvements. If you are still sporting a WH1080 it is
well due to upgrade it for a much better experience.

Re: [weewx-user] New weather station UK

2021-03-08 Thread Bob Atchley
CCL Electronics is another company that makes Weather stations that are
sold as rebadged clones by the likes of Bresser, Youshiko, Garni, Ventus,
Logia and probably others. The WS6in1 driver for weewx supports these that
are connected to the PC connected console. The WiFi versions of these are
probably supported by the interceptor or SDR drivers.
See https://github.com/BobAtchley/weewx-ws6in1 for a list of the PC
connected ones I know about. The advantage of the PC connected console is
it gives a reliable data logger in case of server/power failure.

[weewx-user] Tiny letters despite font being installed

2021-03-08 Thread Auchtermuchty Weather
My skin uses FreeMonoBold.ttf:

skins/Images/skin.conf:top_label_font_path =
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf
skins/Images/skin.conf:unit_label_font_path =
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf
skins/Images/skin.conf:bottom_label_font_path =
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf
skins/Images/skin.conf:axis_label_font_path =
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf
skins/Images/skin.conf:rose_label_font_path =
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf

It's installed:
pi@muchtyweather:/home/weewx $ ls -l
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 300848 Jan 21  2019
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMonoBold.ttf

But I have miniscule letters in the graphs:
*http://muchty-weather.org.uk/weather/day.html*

It was OK on the test Pi and I coped /home/weewx across preserving the
permissions. Where have I gone wrong?

Re: [weewx-user] New weather station UK

2021-03-08 Thread Big OB
Ecowitt is the trading arm of Fine Offset and the Watson W8686 appears to
be a rebadged/clone of their HP2551.

I used Weewx Interceptor in Ecowitt mode to receive the information from
the unit:-https://github.com/matthewwall/weewx-interceptor which worked
well.

[weewx-user] Re: Translation

2021-03-08 Thread Karen K
Difficult to answer with that screenshot, only.

You may want to look into skin.conf or weewx.conf for "meters" and replace
it by "metri".

 I'm looking for a FineOffset as I'm currently using an old Maplins as a
 WH1080, one that uses the same sensors would do me another 10 years.

 Or

 Would this do the trick?

Re: [weewx-user] Belchertown skin not linked to nginx

2021-03-08 Thread gjr80
Hi,

I suggest as a start you edit weewx.conf, set debug=1, save weewx.conf and
the restart WeeWX. Let WeeWX run for at least two report cycles and then
post a log extract here showing the entire WeeWX startup and the two report
cycles. Then we can see what WeeWX and the skins are doing.
