Me too. Just install ntp on all your systems which just plain works. You
don't even need to disable timesyncd, systemd uses ntp preferentially if
it's installed and enabled.

sudo apt-get install ntp

But I disable timesyncd too just in case :-)

I don’t the time syncs are an issue. I believe the time syncs after DHCP
adverts are because of the following file:

/etc/dhcp/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/timesyncd

On each DHCP renewal, this script is called which causes a restart with the NTP
servers passed by DHCP (which probably haven’t changed). It’s not the greatest
for stable time, but it’s good enough for most. I’ve ripped this out on my

Re: [weewx-user] Re: windspeed extreme values

2022-01-13 Thread Doug Jenkins
Joachim:

Cleaning up bad data in your MySQL database can be done using a SQL editor.
I used DBeaver (dbeaver.io) which is a universal database manager. It will
connect to MySQL, SQLite, and MariaDB (which is what I use for WeeWX) and a
lot of other databases.

This is what i would do:

1. Download dbeaver from dbeaver.io and set it up on your workstation
2. in DBeaver, under Database, select new connection. Provide the host name
and port (I believe it is 3306) of the mySQL Server instance and login with
the same login that you are using with WeeWX.
3. Open a new SQL Script window by clicking on SQL Editor->New SQL Script.
Ensure you select the connection and database above.
4. Now using the Bad Data wiki, find the errant record by querying the
archive table in the database. The SQLite commands should work as both
databases are SQL99 compliant.
5. Before you delete any rows, dump the database to a file. you can do that
with DBeaver by clicking on the connection, navigate to the database, right
click on the database and select dump database. See screenshot for details.
6. delete the row by finding the dateTime value you want to remove and use
that in your WHERE Clause. You can use the keyword FROM_UNIXTIME to convert
the dateTime value to a real date. here is an example:
 select FROM_UNIXTIME(dateTime) , windGust from archive;

Let me know if that helps

[weewx-user] Re: windspeed extreme values

2022-01-13 Thread gjr80
Also, when using commands such as wee_database in a multi (WeeWX) instance
environment you specify which WeeWX config file (and hence which database)
you are operating on with the --config command line option, eg:

$ wee_database --config=/home/weewx/my_config.conf --drop-daily

This is a concept that weewx-multi users need to be familiar with. Might
pay to have a read of the Utilities Guide
 for the utilities you need to use.

2022-01-13 Thread gjr80
I'm afraid your going to have to do a bit of self help. If you've taken the
steps to use MySQL/MariaDB there is an expectation you have some level of
familiarity with MySQL/MariaDB. All you are doing is searching your
archive table for values that are clear wrong.

Something like:

$ mysql -u root -p
mysql> SELECT * FROM archive WHERE windSpeed>100;

or limit the fields you are displaying:

mysql> SELECT datetime,windSpeed FROM archive WHERE windSpeed>100;

if you have any replace the 'bad' fields with null:

mysql> UPDATE archive SET windSpeed=NULL WHERE windSpeed>100;

Then drop/rebuild the daily summaries as per the wiki page.

MySQL should have similar SQL commands. Off the top of my head, I can't
tell you what they are, but I imagine they are nearly identical.

You would type them in using the MySQL client tool "mysql". If you don't
know how to use that tool, I would suggest learning. I would not recommend
using MySQL unless you are thoroughly familiar with it.

Re: [weewx-user] Vanage Pro 2 crashes WeeWx daily

2022-01-13 Thread vince
All I can suggest is that if you can swap in a different pi/SD/power-supply
and it goes away, that would point to the pi3 being the problem. If the
problem continues with a different computer, that would point to your
datalogger probably.

Your logger will save a week of readings, so there's little risk of losing
readings if you swap in a different pi temporarily for a couple days.

You didn't answer Tom's question - is it a Davis USB logger, or a serial
logger and serial2usb adaptor ?

Re: [weewx-user] Vanage Pro 2 crashes WeeWx daily

2022-01-13 Thread Timothy Bryan
The only things I have plugged in besides the logger is the keyboard. The
mouse is Bluetooth. I have on occasion shared the keyboard with another
computer, but not very often. I thought about the power supply and it was a
2.4 amp cube but to be safe I changed it to a 3 amp cube and that is what’s
powering it now.

The SD card is a PNY 64gb, micro XC I, which I believe is a fast enough card
but I could be wrong.

I do have a rpi 4 and if it would make since, I could install weewx on that one
with the goal of eliminating weewx and the pi as the culprit? Just a thought
and I’ve got the time to do it...

In addition to Vince's questions, here's one more: are you using a
serial-to-usb converter? If so, do you have another one you can try? They
are notoriously flaky.

You also have a *lot* of network time synchronizations, which always follow
a DHCP router advertisement. I have no idea what that means, but there are
a lot more than I would have expected.

Most issues on a pi are from a slow SD card, or an overburdened USB

Do you have a different/better power supply you might try to power the pi ?

[weewx-user] Re: rsync not working (weewx-Belchertown skin)

2022-01-13 Thread vince
"Host key verification failed." is the indicator here.

You need to attempt to ssh into the remote computer as the local weewx user
(probably root) at least once so that ssh saves the other side's host key.
  When it prompts you, say yes.

It should look something like this example:

# ssh testuser@pi
The authenticity of host 'nuc2 (192.168.1.171)' can't be established.
ECDSA key fingerprint is 4e:8a:b5:6a:12:a2:a0:6d:f6:64:07:35:d0:e7:17:1b.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
Warning: Permanently added 'nuc2,192.168.1.171' (ECDSA) to the list of
known hosts.

Lastly, your log and weewx.conf show a user name of 'remote_user' which
I'm hoping is a typo. If it's what you really want, you will need a user
named "remote_user" created on the host you want to rsync to, and they will
need to be able to write to whatever directory on the remote side that you
specified in weewx.conf or you'll get permission errors.

WeeWX version 4.5.1 - debian install

rsync works perfectly on the command line but it does not work in weewx.
The web host uses port for SSH.
I've tried all types of things with ~.ssh/config but whether or not I even
use the config file or not, I get the exact same error:

2022-01-12 2:39 P.M.weewx.serviceweewx[19782] ERROR
weeutil.rsyncupload: [['rsync', '--archive', '--stats', '-e ssh -p ',

Host key verification failed.. rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0
bytes received so far) [sender]. rsync error: unexplained error (code 255)
at io.c(235) [sender=3.1.3]

I did see Chri's's Jan 2 thread about his port problem for rsync but in my
case adding port = in the RSYNC section appears to work as I see -p
 in the error message above.

note: if you add a "/" slash in front of public_html for the target
directory on the remote host, rsync does not work on the command line.

note: I don't "git" git - could not see a way to download Tom's patched
rsyncupload.py - so i just did a cut and paste of his code with notepad++
and duplicated the permissions. Hopefully it worked..at least I get the
same error with the patched file! I have attached a copy of the patched
file..just in case i didn't get the right one. I also have attached a
debug=1 file  along with weewx.conf.

Any help with this rsync problem would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Have you worked through the Cleaning up old 'bad' data wiki page
 with an
emphasis on the field windSpeed? You most likely do not see the spikes on
the Seasons year plots as the Seasons year plots plot a day average value,
perhaps you are seeing the spikes on the Belchertown plots because they
plot a different aggregate (or perhaps no aggregate at all).
