Re: [weewx-user] Re: ET Incorrect In Seasons Skin- Calculated Where?

2020-12-28 Thread G Hammer
Well, it reset the etday at midnight I'm going to say. Nothing has been
displayed until now and ET is accumulated mostly during the day.
I'm puzzled with this one as it makes zero sense.
The way ET works on the console, the WLL and weatherlink.com, and in the
real-time stats from WiFiLogger is as the various parameters that make up
ET grow during a day, the etday is updated. At the end of the day, it is
zeroed.

So, the ET value in WeeWX does not accumulate/add that value each time it
is reported. It stays 100 times what is in the loop. etday=1 ET=100,
etday=2 ET=200, if etday stops growing at 2, ET will remain at 200.
Somewhere, the calculation is just flat incorrect. WeeWX has no idea what
device is sending the data as the driver is not tied to hardware. No more
records are being sent than are reflected in the loop records, archives are
being created every 300 seconds.
I'm going to install a different skin tomorrow and see if this remains the
same.
Stay tuned.

I think the next step would be to capture the loop packets between two
archive records and manually sum up the ET values. Or you could estimate
the number of loop packets between archive records and if it is close to
100 call it done. Net, it seems like everything is working as expected.
MQTTSubscribeDriver is creating the packets. WeeWX is summing the ET values
in the packets to create the archive record.
Mulling this over a bit more, I think setting contains_total = true for
your etday field might be the answer. This was added for MQTT rain data
that is cumulative to calculate a delta for WeeWX.

Ok, I have no idea what I would ask them for.
The WiFilogger sends good data to the MQTT server and MQTTSubscribe
retrieves those accurately into loop packets.

That one of them is multiplied by 100 for display doesn't seem to be on
either of them.

Before I make an entry in weewx.conf StdCalibrate Corrections,

I only find items like these in the skin files:

Ahhh, I did extend the database sometime ago to add a field. Otherwise, I
don't recall anything.

So, if I edit the Wiki, it is live? No, I like cooperating, but I'll keep
it here and GitHub issues.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Upgrade Database to New (WeeWX 4) Schema Method

2020-09-12 Thread G Hammer
I have questions with sections of the Wiki entry.
.
It says that I would need to edit the databinding in weewx.conf.
Modify wx_binding. When it creates the new, modified database, wee_database
needs
to know to use the wview_extended schema instead of the old, wview schema.
You do this by changing the option schema in section [DataBindings] in
weewx.conf.

However, my DataBindings are as shown in the Wiki already.

Perhaps wee_database --reconfigure took care of the entries?
Could all else but the database been upgraded at some point from when I
installed until now and all I needed was the extended database?

I tried following the directions as given and see that I am missing some
PATH.

gh@srvr:~# cd SQLITE_ROOT
-bash: cd: SQLITE_ROOT: No such file or directory

Wiki says:
You can either shuffle the databases around so the new database has the
same name as the old database, or edit weewx.conf to use the new database
name. To do the former:

It never addresses the later.

Finally, instead of allowing WeeWX to rebuild the database on start, why
not have it done by command before starting WeeWX? If you are on a slower
machine and have years of data, it could take some time. Some people (me
for example) would worry that WeeWX hasn't started and try to stop WeeWX to
review their edits and steps. Running wee_database -- rebuild-daily takes
the guesswork out of the process.

I think I'd break the Wiki into two sections, one for the bog standard
WeeWX install and the second for those using MySQL, Likely those with MySQL
are more familiar with its operation.
Which begs a question. Who can edit the Wiki? How are edits approved. I
would like to contribute, but not if it went live with no supervision.

Much more 'why' in the Wiki and I like that. I get easily confused by
things that already exist or that fail though. Then I start reading more
into something than I should. See me with a fresh box from Ikea sometime...

2020-09-12 Thread G Hammer
Just to make it useful for anyone who searches this topic.
cd /home/weewx/archive(This is my path using setup.py install method)
systemctl stop weewx(I run weewx with systemd)
cp weewx.sdb weewx.sdb.old
/home/weewx/bin/wee_database --reconfigure(This may take awhile
depending on hardware and database size)
cp weewx.sdb_new weewx.sdb(Copies the newly created db over the
original)
/home/weewx/bin/wee_database --rebuild-daily(This too may take awhile)
systemctl start weewx
journalctl -f(Check logs until an archive period has completed)

The entire process took less than 5 minutes on my system with 18 months of
records.

To check if you have an upgraded database do the following from
/home/weewx/archive
echo ".schema" | sqlite3 mydbname | wc -l

The result should be 114 for the extended schema.

wview_extended as there are scripts looking for fields that do not exist in
the old one.
So, would this be the method for upgrading the database?

Stop weewx
Backup the existing database
wee_database --reconfigure
wee_database --rebuld-daily
Copy the resulting file to the proper location/name
Start weewx

[weewx-user] weewx-Weather34 easyW34skinSetup runs Other PHP Run, index.php Does Not

2020-09-11 Thread G Hammer
Running Pop!_OS PHP 7.4.3 Apache 2.4 Python 3.8.2 setup.py method.

I have an identical test server and installed weewx and this template there
a few days ago. Working well.
So, today I installed to my online server.
Does not run.
I have checked and double checked the install, the permissions, etc. I'm
probably blind to whatever the issue is by now.

I can run any php from the folder the template is installed in, except for
the index.php.
The easyW34skinSetup.php runs and writes the settings file.
WeeWX is creating the w34realtime.txt

I get 500 error when I try the site. weather.ghammer.net or
weather.ghammer.net/index.php
Apache error logs show nothing.
Apache access logs only show that a 500 happened.
I have monitored the syslog with no hints.

I can use these URLs that are served from the same folder to get info on
the system/software installed.

https://weather.ghammer.net/check-fetch-times.php

This one is very detailed on the entire apache and PHP environment.
https://weather.ghammer.net/php_test.php

https://weather.ghammer.net/test.php

Then there is the setup page. Of course, you don't have a password, but it
shows that it works.

https://weather.ghammer.net/easyW34skinSetup.php

Any ideas?

You say the PWS connects via cellular data.
That precludes using anything to capture/sniff the data.
You'll have no options except for getting a GW1000 if it supports your

Put me down as a happy RainMachine user.
You have the direct from WeeWX capability or if you feed data to Aeris, the
ability to use their API to get the data.
No cloud required if you don't wish, capable if you do.

I didn't like that other commercial brands required internet to function as
advertised. Didn't want to cobble a homebrew controller. RainMachine was
(and is I think) my sole choice.
I have a Mini-8 but as you say it has been discontinued in favor of the
Pro-8

Look at either the Ambient Weather WS-5000 Ultrasonic Professional Smart
Weather Station or its equivalent, the Ecowitt HP2553
If you don't wish to go the ultrasonic route, the Ecowitt GW1002 or the
Ambient WS-2902B or WS-2000 are also nice units.
All will report wind in 16 seconds or less for the ultrasonic units.

Ecowitt has excellent support if needed. Ambient did have but with their
recent sale, I don't know for certain.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do here, but any particular reason
why you're running both weewxd *and* wee_reports? Usually, it's one or
 the other.

And, you're running both the Seasons report *and* the Belchertown
report, albeit to different directories. Is that your intention?

Finally, when you say, "none of my changes take affect" what changes
are you referring to? The change from the old system? Adding something to
 the new system?

Remote debugging is tough, so it helps to be very explicit about what
you mean, and to supply lots of information.

There is an extra space in the default weewx4.0.0.conf file
May or may not affect anything but after my go around with spaces vs
python3, thought I'd mention it.

Glad to hear it works as ecowitt-client, I was stumped.

As for the sniff, Ubuntu 20 has many functions supplied by a snap. Are you
installing via apt or via pip? May (or may not) make a difference.
Take a look at how Tom installs to localenv;

2020-04-29 Thread G Hammer
I ran debug logging for the interceptor driver and have attached it here
for you to compare.
BTW- It is a nice feature of WeeWX 4 to have the flexible logging available.

My example:
# Set logging for Interceptor to debug
[Logging]
  [[loggers]]
[[[user.interceptor]]]
  level = DEBUG
  handlers = syslog,
  propagate = 0

You may wish to install using the setup.py method.
I think that the deb install is not complete as yet. Plus, it looks like it
is -3 vs your -1 at this time.

The new bootstrap is an improvement too I think.
Prior, I'd get a failure on the first report cycle, then next cycle the
file would be downloaded and all was well.
This time, the file was downloaded first cycle.

No alerts here, so I'll have to see if Aeris is better about my location
straddling two warning areas.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Changes with Belchertown skin & DarkSky

2020-04-07 Thread G Hammer
For me, I have API keys that I keep track of, acquire when needed. It's a
one off thing.

OWM can use your coordinates which may produce better results for some. For
example, I've lived where you picked a distant city for a forecast, unless
you knew the local airport code.

They seem to have a 7 day product in the free tier now along with the 5.

They have translation and it seems to support metric or imperial per
measurement. Doesn't the UK mix MPH with C?

It would seem easier to move to OWM than to create and maintain all that
will be needed with yr.no

It does not matter to the running of WeeWX, but thought I'd point it out.

[weewx-user] Re: Belchertown Development & WeeWX 4 b10 Error

2020-03-23 Thread G Hammer
Final update on this.
I could find no distro that has IPv6 enabled on their inbuilt websockets.
Nor can I find a way to build websockets and enable IPv6.
So, I added a DNS entry pointing at only the IPv4 address, added the host
name to my SSL certificate, edited the Belchertown websocket entry to use
this host name.

Voila! Fully functional.
May not be the elegant method, but it indeed works fine.

[weewx-user] Re: Belchertown Development & WeeWX 4 b10 Error

2020-03-17 Thread G Hammer
The issue is resolved by the following:

I installed
libfreetype6-dev
libjpeg-dev
python-cjson

I uninstalled the skin, made certain the directories were gone, rebooted
and installed the skin again.

After configuring, I get full functionality..

The last item is to resolve why my local mosquitto server is not accepting
IPv6 websockets.

sudo netstat -tulpn | grep -E '8883|9001'
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:88830.0.0.0:* LISTEN
968/mosquitto
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:90010.0.0.0:* LISTEN
968/mosquitto
tcp6   0  0 :::8883 :::*LISTEN
968/mosquitto

Not a firewall or iptables issue:
root@srvr:~# ufw status
Status: inactive
root@srvr:~# systemctl status iptables-persistent
Unit iptables-persistent.service could not be found.
root@srvr:~# systemctl status iptables
Unit iptables.service could not be found.

I'll note that websockets IPv6 is not shown in the mosquitto startup logs.
But I'm not certain websockets would show each type as the other sockets do:
1584380087: mosquitto version 1.4.15 (build date Tue, 18 Jun 2019 11:42:22
-0300) starting
1584380087: Config loaded from /etc/mosquitto/mosquitto.conf.
1584380087: Opening ipv4 listen socket on port 1883.
1584380087: Opening ipv6 listen socket on port 1883.
1584380087: Opening ipv4 listen socket on port 8883.
1584380087: Opening ipv6 listen socket on port 8883.
1584380087: Opening websockets listen socket on port 9001.

Any mosquitto assist would be helpful.

Changing to public_html/bark produces the same results.
Did you mean out of the public_html directory?

The weewx weather pages are off of my main website which I do not wish to
move. I can change the apache config to add another directory structure if
needed.
However, as Seasons skin has no problem, I'm think this isn't the issue.

I'm attaching a listing of the files in the directory tree. Maybe that will
help a bit.

Description: Binary data

[weewx-user] Re: Belchertown Development & WeeWX 4 b10 Error

2020-03-08 Thread G Hammer
Well, perhaps these are related to my mystery.

Mar 8 21:00:24 srvr weewx[29324] INFO user.belchertown: New forecast file
downloaded to /home/weewx/public_html/weather/json/darksky_forecast.json
Mar 8 21:00:24 srvr weewx[29324] INFO weewx.cheetahgenerator: Generated 11
files for report Belchertown in 0.55 seconds
Mar 8 21:00:24 srvr weewx[29324] INFO weewx.reportengine: Copied 2 files
to /home/weewx/public_html/weather

So, having no luck in finding why this skin will not produce output, I
decided to upload a weewx.conf that uses the Seasons skin. When I stopped
weewx, I got an error.
root@srvr:/home/weewx/public_html/weather/json# service weewx stop
sh: 0: getcwd() failed: No such file or directory

Thing is, I had tail -f /var/log/syslog in another window and there was
nothing untoward shown.
Simply changing to the root of the filesystem gave the expected results.
root@srvr:/home/weewx/public_html/weather/json# cd /
root@srvr:/# service weewx stop
root@srvr:/# service weewx start

Seasons skin is fine BTW.

Perhaps I'll leave this to actual programmers.

If it is something easily done, I'm game.

If it requires hours of hunt the wumpus, seems to be a useless endeavor.

I've removed the tab/space problem. As I do not program, it's beyond me
what level of indentation is needed.

No, it did not. I had already ran it through and found many errors.
Going to start from scratch, first removing all tabs in favor of 4 spaces.
Then run it through 2to3, then see what errors out.

2020-02-21 Thread G Hammer
I have installed 4.0.b12 and running only python 3.
I tried 2to3 on the rainmachine extension and while it had no errors in
completing, the resulting code is not proper.
When I run weewx directly, it fails when loading rainmachine:
 File "/home/weewx/bin/user/rainmachine.py", line 67
return None, None
^
TabError: inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentation

As I'm not a programmer, I have no idea of what use of tabs and spaces
would mean.

Help?

Yes, the encoding was there.

So, here's an idea. What exactly should be installed to run this skin?
Meaning, how are you configured?

2020-02-18 Thread G Hammer
Pat,

While the pages are created now, I have no charts, no history, no MQTT.
There are a number of errors in the dev console I'm attaching 2 here.

After this, the pages are created normally and all is in place.

I do not have MQTT functionality, but that is something I will look at in a
few minutes.
MQTT doesn't even show on the site, no error in connecting, offline, etc.
I have the Windy pane, but no DarkSky forecast.

All these have to be my config so I'll go recheck everything.

Thanks Pat!

Thanks to both of you. Each solution has its point, but I do like just
having the status 'OK' or 'LOW' so will look into how to get Raffaello's if
statements to work with the skin or from weewx.conf

[weewx-user] Battery Status Incorrect

2020-02-15 Thread G Hammer
I have gotten two of the three battery statuses to be reported in the
Seasons skin.
The one, an Ecowitt WH40 rain gauge, reports it's actual voltage instead of
a one or zero.
The battery status for this sensor always shows low as the voltage is
reported so greater than 0.

How can I get the correct status of this sensor shown?

I just have to remember to test new Interceptor versions then edit if
needed.

Thanks for that. Been wanting to have battery status appear, but wasn't
wanting to change the driver.
I couldn't find where the extensions were documented, so left things alone
as it is a nice to have.
As a plus, this is the first time I've seen mention of rain_total since
I've used Interceptor.

I just finished a new install on a new machine.

[weewx-user] Re: help with ambient weather 2902 / interceptor / pihole

2020-01-24 Thread G Hammer

My experience with getting the data using Interceptor is that it's a pain.
I tried the DNS spoofing, setting up an AP on the weewx machine and
sniffing the data (worked best), iptables in my router. None were really
good as there were too many moving parts. I then used the SDR method and it
worked fine once the receiver was in just the right place. Then, as happens
with radio, a sensor was lost and never regained.
I found the GW1000 method and have not looked back. Dead simple. MWall has
written a driver for it.

If you really just want to use the Interceptor network method, I'd suggest
simplifying your overall design then introduce additional items one at a
time.

Me? I'm firmly in the simple camp with the GW1000.

When I go to the site you gave zeebytes.org, I actually get
crabapple.dickens.com
Redirects are possible, but I have no idea where to start since I haven't
configured any for my domain.

That is where MQTT is attempting to connect as well.

mqttws31.min.js:36 WebSocket connection to
'wss://crabapple.dickens.com:9001/mqtt' failed: Error in connection
establishment: net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

Re: [weewx-user] Re: WeeWX v4 I Need an Extension Verified/Checked

2020-01-18 Thread G Hammer
Seems that there should be a way to determine this as the change to Python
3 isn't just a WeeWX thing.

As for whether or not to run the beta, it's beta 8 and what I use seems to
be ok as far as reports go. Is it not what beta are for after all?

Anyway, not what I asked, so let's see what else comes.

[weewx-user] WeeWX v4 I Need an Extension Verified/Checked

2020-01-18 Thread G Hammer
I'd like to run v4 when I upgrade hardware this week.
Seems to be doing fine for the devices and skin I use.
With one exception, a RainMachine extension.
There is one that was written by someone at RainMachine, but I think he has
moved on.
I've asked there and raised an issue on the github page for the extension
with no response.

How, besides installing v4 and the extension, can I determine if it will
run under v4?

The extension is located at https://github.com/sprinkler/rainmachine-weewx and
referenced at https://github.com/weewx/weewx/wiki/RainMachine

With this functionality confirmed, I can make the change, without it I'll
need to stay with v3

I also had to change from mqtt_websockets_host = "localhost" to
mqtt_websockets_host = "FQDN" with FQDN being the full public name of the
server.

I think it is because you are going to the site via https but do not have
ssl enabled for the skin mqtt_websockets_ssl = 0 vs mqtt_websockets_ssl = 1
I'd also change the topic to weather/loop vs weather/#

Look at either Ambient Weather or Ecowitt series. Both are supported well
with WeeWX, are easy to own, and inexpensive (for me).

Step 7 in the upgrade info, do I need to add the belchertown_root_url =
"public_html/weather
"

or belchertown_root_url = "https://ghammer.net/weather

to weewx.conf?

Corrected by entering the full url into HTML_ROOT in the skin.conf

weewx.conf
[[Belchertown]]
HTML_ROOT = public_html/weather
skin = Belchertown
[[[Extras]]]
logo_image = ""

skin.conf
[Extras]

# General Site Defaults
belchertown_debug = 0
belchertown_root_url = "https://ghammer.net/weather";
belchertown_locale = "auto"

[weewx-user] Belchertown v1.0.1 Paths Not Following Root, Little Data Available

2020-01-05 Thread G Hammer
I finally upgraded from 0.96 (or so).
Edited weewx.conf to remove all Belchertown entries, removed the
directories, uninstalled the Belchertown extension, wee_extension --list
showed it was uninstalled, emptied the HTML_ROOT directory.

Installed Belchertown 1.0.1
Replaced the Belchertown info in weewx.conf that was taken out before
install, started weewx.

Upon a report run, I see no errors, files are created in the HTML_ROOT, but
there is little or nothing on the resulting website.

Links for Graphs, Records, Reports, About do not exist as they are pointed
one level above where they should be.
The website lives at https://ghammer.net/weather/ but the links are at the
root of ghammer.net https://ghammer.net/graphs

Help?
