[WestNileNet] Nebbi Teenager's Plight

2011-04-17 Thread Robert Ejiku
Alaka,

I would love that a visit is paid to the family especially when some of us
travel for the Easter weekend in Arua. I am also not sure if we should pass
through Red Cross or we set up the initiative and deliver it. Your gesture
is fantastic however I would love if we can also assess the short term needs
(6 months to one year) of this family.

The news papers today say, the grandmother plans to take the family to the
village to avoid rent which would inevitably affect the young mother's
chances of going to school and even the baby's health could deteriorate as a
result. Its best to get the baby out of danger first before any decision of
that nature is taken. If a room of UGX 6,000 per month is okay for them to
live in, I can offer them the year's rent. With other additional help from
our good selves on this network we can raise them resources to last them
sometime.

The immediate assistance to rescue them from dying needs to go as quickly as
possible as Alaka has started but more help needs to be got for sometime.
Some of the resources need not be money but in kind to avoid mismanagement.
In anycase we need also to think about how the resources raised can be used
in a sustainable manner. Is the simsim business worth or is there something
else they can do? Assistance to them can also be extended in measured
amounts over time and not large once. These can be assessed.

My take, over to fellow contributors on this network.

*"The only thing that will make evil triumph is when good men and women
standby and do nothing"

[WestNileNet] Nebbi Teenagers Plight

2011-04-17 Thread alaka caleb
Dear colleagues,

You may all be aware about the fate of a West Nile kid hailing from
Nebbi who was defiled and has given birth at the age of 13. The grand
mother is 28 years. Whereas our lawyers should follow up the
defilement issue, my attention has been brought towards the families
current problems. According to the New Vision of today, the family
stays in a 6,000/= rented place and they can't afford any thing. The
young girl wants to resume school, the family survives by selling
firewood and sim sim. From the above, I have initiated a basket to
mobilize funds for the short term upkeep of the baby, the young mother
and probably part of the girls school fees. For this initiative, I
have contributed Ug.Shs 100,000/= I will hand it over to Mr. Anguzu
Rogers our treasurer and any money we shall have contributed will be
handed over to the Chairperson of Uganda Red cross Mr. Tom Buruku on
Tthursday this week. Any one willing to help should get it touch with
Anguzu. All contributions will be documented and accounted.

2011-04-17 Thread JohnAJackson
Dear Christine, et la,

I think this effort of reaching the community in West Nile region is long
over due.
I know there are so many constraints in reaching out the public but efforts
to coordinate event of this kind is adorable.

The more we improve on our efforts to reach the community on the ground ,
the better for all of us. Community out reach programs are powerful tools
for educating the masses.

As most of us know a lot of the problems in our region requires tremendous
amount of effort on public education on so many themes. Unfortunately, mass
media does not reach the majority of the population.

Hopefully, teaming up with Radio Pacis will shorten this bottle neck in the
long run.

Congratulations??

I think there is no better opportunity than now to have this meeting and
resolve these issues. I can confirm and report that the likes of Vasco
Oguzua, Fr. Ruffino are in the country and would be representative of the
voices in the diaspora before they leave at the end of the month. Why not
take advantage and call a meeting by Friday 29/04/2011.
