[WestNileNet] THE PRECARIOUS SITUATION IN SOUTH SUDAN

2013-12-20 Thread Margaret Akulia
Kudos to the Uganda Air Force for indiscriminately "air lifting" people out
of harm's way (read evacuation by the Ugandan Airforce). I have been in
contact with family in Uganda and South Sudan and reports on the ground
suggest that many people have returned to Uganda until the situation
returns to normal in South Sudan if at all but others are "waiting it out"
in Yei. Additional more couldn't be reached because of "network problems"
especially in Juba.

I am not entirely sure any "appearance of normalcy returning to Juba" and
any "hope of peace talks" can be trusted. Anyone who lived in Juba in the
80s as I did will attest to the "anarchy" and chaos that would always
erupt when Dinka, Nuer and other South Sudan tribes started fighting and
killing each other at Konyokonyo market. They didn't give a rat's arse
about the Police and sometimes even the Army. I couldn't believe my ears as
a "fighter" from one of the Bari speaking tribes recounted how he killed a
Dinka at Konyokonyo. It was as if he was saying let's go to
the mallh... (
https://radiotamazuj.org/en/article/main-market-closed-after-panic-parts-juba).
I have tons of other illustrations but I will hold my breath for now and
just caution Ugandans to come and "wait out" the situation in Uganda
instead of gambling their lives to a "repeat Rwanda" which a worst case
scenario I wouldn't tempt fate wtih.

My two cents worth!!

Re: [WestNileNet] WestNileNet Digest, Vol 64, Issue 37

2013-12-20 Thread Samuel Alioni
I like the idea of countries evacuating their citizens during such hard
times. Personally i have two people there one is deep in some village and
another in Juba. But i think it is being unfair to evacuate foreigners and
leave the nationals to suffer the wrath of the fighting animals. Just see
the poor are the ones suffering the consequences i don't think any sane
person can start fighting with the other.

Even these guys wearing military attire can never get physical with each
other, so why do they have to engage in this uncultured behavior? some one
needs to pump some sense in their heads that's why i did not support their
independence from the whole Sudan.

Look what is going to become of them?

Re: [WestNileNet] WestNileNet Digest, Vol 64, Issue 18

2013-12-20 Thread anguyo milton
On 18 Dec Air Uganda was the first airline to operate into Juba after opening
of the airport to normal operations. It was followed by Air Rwanda and some
other commercial international operators I can't recall (Egypt Air ostensibly).
Kenya Airways, Fly Dubai and Fly 540 cancelled their regular schedules but they
promised operations would resume shortly. A United States Air force C-130 also
landed at Juba; two C-17 Globemasters Cargo jets were positioned on 18 Dec at
Entebbe Airport ostensibly on a mission to support the humanitarian operations
in Juba. Air Uganda operated two flights, in the morning and afternoon. There
appears to be some normalcy returning to Juba even though the situation in
Jonglei and Bentiu is precarious; three soldiers from the Indian Contingent
based in Akobo were killed after militant elements entered the UN County
Support Base and the bodies have been extracted and returned to Juba. As you
may all be aware, the Uganda
Government has also been taking necessary action in support of humanitarian
operations in South Sudan,Chinese amongst Ugandans and other nationalities were
also reportedly also evacuated by the Ugandan Airforce, I think this is one of
the best approach to humanitarian support I have come to hear of..non
discriminative !! With the increasing international concerns on the situation
in the Republic of South Sudan, we can all hope that the situation will
normalize and peace talks among the protagonists resume immediately; there are
high hopes that the leaders are willing to engage on the negotiating table
rather than the battle field option.

Have you ever heard the famous 'Dracula' of the blood sucking tale being
requested to guard over the blood bank? May be the request was for the monkey
to decide the case if burning the forest.

We saw it coming . Not surprised.
Only worried how they will be treated by those they mistreated. Worried more
for the innocent.

Obviously, it's still a precarious situation.
