The latest is that UPDF soldiers are deploying in South Sudan, ostensibly at
President Salva Kiir's request. Elements of the Special Forces are involved.

Also, Uganda's fighter jets were reportedly drafted in ostensibly to secure the
South Sudan airspace to facilitate the evacuation. There are said to be 1,690
Ugandans stuck and in dire need at UN base in Bor, which a splinter SPLA
faction overrun a couple of days ago.

UPDF has announced 3 C-130 aircraft flights today to evacuate Ugandans from
Juba, and government says more trips could be arranged later if needed.

State International Affairs Minister Oryem Okello and IGAD peers set to meet
both President Kiir and John Garang's widow, Rebecca, in Juba today in pursuit
of a political solution.

The downside of deploying Uganda's military is that natives could target and
attack Ugandans in South Sudan, but it probably became unavoidable after
government said the UN secretary-general Ban Kii-Moon had specifically asked
President Museveni to intervene and sort the crisis.

Obviously, it's still a precarious situation.
