Re: [WestNileNet] Karuma Electricity Evacuation Plan - West Nile Left Out

2013-08-13 Thread Achile Fendru
Members,

WNF should not divert this issue to individual member MPs from the region.
This need to be tackled together as a region and WNF provides the best
closest forum and platform to bring all the stake holders from the region
together to have one voice to demand and petition for an equitable share of
the Karuma electricity supply for West Nile region. Whether you are an
opposition MP/politician or government MP/politician (read NRM) the faith
of development in West Nile affects all of us. It is us as individuals, our
brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, children, friends, relatives and the
entire West Nile region that suffers when we don’t put our differences
aside for such an issue. Seriously how will we look back 20, 30, or even 50
years from now for those who will be alive and reflect on our individual
actions and contributions to the region? That because I belong to one
political party, I can’t be seen with others to lobby for an issue that
affect our region? Are we westeniler’s first or politicians first. When it
is all said and done, and your political career is over, are you going to
feel happy with yourself living with your family with the same problem that
you could have solved when you had the opportunity? Seriously our people
wake up.

George Afi has provided us a skeleton of what questions to ask, WNF pick it
up and get our MPs and politicians to get the answers. Send out a
memorandum to all the individual MPs from the region to come together and
tackle this issue as a group.

Dear Members,

Even though enough has been written here in the person of Ernest Acidri and
good advice given about personal attacks, forum discussion ethics and
respect for individual views, I for one cannot take this last uncalled for
and unwarranted attacks and character assassinations that good members of
this forum have been taking of late from one person, Ernest Acidri. Either
he is a hired and paid goon who go around from net to net, forum to forum
or blog to blog discussing people instead of ideas (and you know what the
saying is about that), or he really has some deep rooted issues he needs to
come in terms with as far as this net is concerned. Whatever the case is we
don’t have to scoop down to these low dirty tricks.

*"There is no easy walk to freedom of any kind, anywhere and anyhow, and
many who deserve freedom, will have to pass through the valley of the
shadow (of death) again and again before they reach the mountain tops of
their desires" **with or without Acidri**: Altered text, Nelson Mandela*

Alice, I suggest you talk to Money Gram directly about the situation. Money
Gram was punished and paid big fines in the USA because of laxed
requirement for recieving money and Nigerian crooks took advantage and
exploited the situation. My guess is that they tightened the rules, but in
the wrong country. I think the requirement of a passport or driver's
license is ridiculous

Christine and rest of the bereaved family,

In the words of Albert Einstein, "Our death is not an end if we can live on
in our children

leaves on the tree of life". You have shown us much more of what your mum

Re: [WestNileNet] Conspirancy of silence

2011-04-06 Thread Achile Fendru
I would like to register my disagreement in the boldest terms with what the
good learned counselor has stated and suggested in here. If the going gets
tuff, throwing in the towel is not the solution. First of all, I never saw
the vehement opposition on the idea of WNF that the counselor is talking
about on this forum. On the contrary my take was that it was well received
with excitement, enthusiasm and joy. The only skirmishes I saw was about
the what, where, how and to who to pay. Besides, if there were or are any
voices of dissent, we should try to understand why, see if there is any
validity and genuine justification to it and try to see if they have any
suggestions that can be incorporated to make the foundation better. Remember
every new good and noble idea/innovation/invention historically has always
met with stiff skeptism, challenges and sometimes lethal opposition. Those
who succeed are not the ones when kicked and knocked down remain down
there, but rather those who can be able to get up after the kick, dust
themselves off and keep on moving forward.

I will appeal to Mr. Alaka to reconsider his suggested action and consult
widely with some of the able members in the forum or on the ground who can
help steer the foundation to its successful objective. We need this and we
need you Mr. Alaka to be part of this. West Nile region has benefited a lot
from your wisdom, hardwork and unselfish contributions in the various
activities. Now is not the time to let go.

On a lighter note, having been born and raised in Lugazi, I am a proud
product of the Kasanvu (Sugarcane Harvester). Believe me when I say that
under difficulties many of them were able to educate their kids and those of
their relatives. I am a case in point. I would not wish to over generalize
and paint all of them with the same brush as being inferior in their
thinking.

Thank you.

[WestNileNet] Now that the electionsare over, let's get back to WNF business

2011-02-23 Thread Achile Fendru
Good people of West Nile,

On or about February 03, 2011, in a discussion that was going on between,
Aggrey Adrale, Vasco Oguzua and others at large, Vasco raised some very good
points in his last posting about WNF and WNFIC that I thought deserved some
response or at least mention from the current leadership of WNF, but to the
best of my knowledge has not been responded to. In a nutshell Vasco wanted
very clear and concrete information or resolution to the following;

*(1) Who is a member of WNF? *

*(2) What is the agreed membership fee for one to be considered a member of
WNF?*

*(3) Will paying membership to WNFIC constitute membership to WNF as these
two seem to be two different entities which all require membership?*

(4) *Since the registration of WNF sometime last year, how far has the
organization gone in the direction of establishing a well
constituted Leadership structure of WNF?*

* *
I also remember the excitement and euphoria that gripped the members of the
community when it was announced that from one of the science café
discussions resulted in a resolution for the birth of the WNFIC. This I
quote from the posting at the time “*A lesson we all learned is to focus
more on innovation of ideas and getting down to action when still hot,
otherwise we face the risk of them being watered down by “Analysis by
paralysis” a common management problem*.” Around the same time there was
talk of us moving with high speed and lift off the ground as quickly as
possible and start investing by the month of March. We are at the end of
February and March is just around the corner, may we know what has come of
all these?

I know with the just concluded elections in the country a lot of effort,
attention and concetration may have been diverted somewhere else, but I
think it is essential that the members of the West Nile community be
provided with regular, relevant information in order to make informed
decisions about active participation in the affairs of the WNF. Only with
constant information will the members feel engaged, that they have control,
and can measure how the foundation is doing, and accept the complete
responsibility of being a member

Engaged members feel valued and are willing to put forth their best efforts,
thoughts, and initiatives. These members can serve as dynamic role models
for others. When a member believes that he or she creates real value that
helps drive the objectives of the foundation through the results of his or
her efforts, there will be positive ripple effect for the foundation in
terms of image and outlook.

Since engagement is rooted in relationships, it is not something that can be
mandated, forced, imposed on the people just like the WNF. Building a
community based on effective all out communication -- where there is open,
honest exchange of ideas, information and learning from others-- is central
for engaging a community like ours. It's equally important to empower
members through continuous, accurate developments, not only about the
membership choices, but also about the overall environment in which the
foundation operates.

I may have missed some mails or postings, and therefore stand corrected if
need be.

[WestNileNet] How Much Accurate of an Information is contained in the website provided below about our people???

2011-02-13 Thread Achile Fendru
Please check out this website about the peoples of Uganda. Of special
interest is the composition and what they say about the different tribes in
WestNile: Lugbara, Alur, Kakwa, Madi, Okebo, Lendu and Metu. Did our people
participate in providing the said information?. In as much as it provides
for fascinating reading, I am not sure about the truth and accuracy of some
of the information contained in there. Since the website has space for
comments, May I requested that our social, cultural, biological and
linguistic anthropologists and historians in the net look over these and
where possible try to add, subtract or correct the information so that those
who read it get close to accurate information about who we are as a people.

2010-12-14 Thread Achile Fendru
I agree with Caleb and the rest that a law suit is the way to go right now
with a request for an injunction to stop all activities on the said
land/property till the matter is sorted out.

If Tullow or “people who give orders from above” are interested in
developing Arua town, they should do so in an open and transparent manner in
cooperation and partnership with the Arua Municipal authorities and the main
stake holders, the people of Arua.

Re: [WestNileNet] The Strategic Plan

2010-10-18 Thread Achile Fendru
Mr. Alaka and the good team, I don’t know in what realm this would fall
within the plan or if somebody has already suggested this, but here it is.
How about specifically mentioning establishing and managing computer centers
in the towns like Nebbi, Arua, Koboko, Yumbe and Moyo? As ably attested to
here in the forum, our area and people are very poor. Some of our people may
want to learn or even follow some of the discussions and events happening
here on the net, but as we know they are not able to. If we could start with
these centers furnished with about 20 computers each and all connected to
the internet, could be a start. These days when we talk about literacy,
education and research, computers are the driving force. The more we expose
our youth to the 21st century technology, the better their chances of
competing in this global arena.

Thanks

 *Barnabas Kili*

Amin’s education minister Kili dead
By Frank Mugabi

BRIG. Barnabas Kili, who was the education minster in Amin’s regime, passed
away at Arua Hospital on Tuesday. Kili died at the age of 91 after suffering
from fever and low blood pressure.

Richard Abendu, a family member, said Kili’s health deteriorated when he
sustained a leg fracture after a fall early this month.

In a speech read by transport state minister Simon Ejua at the burial in
Omvuko village, President Yoweri Museveni said Uganda had lost an
instrumental educationalist.

“He was the first military director of education.”

The President said the nation will remain indebted to him.

Museveni noted that at the departure of the British expatriates, Kili
managed the transition well by ensuring that African teachers received a
crush programme to fill the gap.

Meanwhile, the occasion turned dramatic when Ejua criticised Terego MP
Kassiano Wadri for concentrating on attacking the Government when he was
given an opportunity to address the mourners.

Wadri had earlier said Kili had been abandoned despite his contributions to
the nation.

But Ejua fired back, saying there were records to show that Kili received
financial assistance from the Government.

“We must evaluate ourselves before we speak. How many times did Wadri visit
the late?” Ejua asked, attracting laughter from the congregation.

I had the rear opportunity and honor of meeting the Brigadier and Minister
Kili in person and truly believe that he was one of the most honorable and
principled people one can ever meet. I can equivocally say that his reign as
the minister of education during the dark and hard times of the Amin error
was impeccable and goes above and beyond ordinary call of duty.

My condolences to the family and may his soul rest in peace.
