The rivers of West Nile are certainly drying up. The current state of of Enyau is never pleasing. Not the Enyau I knew. As we think of four campuses for Arua University - Arua, Koboko, Moyo and Nebbi, it should not be because we want to decongest Arua. Far from it. Arua town is growing and is doing so very fast with and without a university. The current food scarsity in West Nile will certainly drive more people to Arua. The politicians of West Nile should begin lobbying for water to be piped from the Nile to Mt Liru or Wati(Eti) for domestic and agricultural needs of West Nile. Arua, Koboko and Yumbe could be supplied directly from whatever tanks will be put in place for holding that water. While Adjumani, Pakwachi and parts of Moyo could be irrigated directly from the Nile, the fertile parts of West Nile that lie to the west of the region needs irrigated agriculture. Do not worry of Agypt's threats. We need to plan and feed our own. I agree and my suggestion is that people a memorandum should be prepared for presentation to the committee or Minister of education expressing our gratitude for this wonderful initiative which is long over due. Unlike Makerere, we want this university located in Arua but with three other campuses of one faculty to start with located in Nebbi District, Koboko District and Moyo District. We want to aviod the congregation of people in Arua as this may have serious repercussions in the future. With all streams and rivers drying up, we do not want Arua congested any more than it is now. For example, Pakwach already has UCC so this could house the Faculty of Commerce/ business administration etc. As John Avudria says, a university brings in a lot of benefits to a place ranging from top notch research facilities to service jobs (restaurants, dry cleaning, bars). We will once again turn to our Rev Fathers in Arua and the region to lead us in the preparation of this memo. We have to think far if our region is going to develop evenly.
