You may want to take a look at the wpcvn.com - it also displays realtime stream (filtered)... Re: [Wiki-research-l] wikistream: displays wikipedia updates in realtime
Ed, nice job. Some minor glitches you may want to fix: - there's a typo in the dropdown menu (All Wikpedias) - you should probably set a min-width for the control panel - when I move the slide to values greater than 0 the text is wrapped, no matter how large my browser window is (tested in FF/Safari/Chrome on Mac OS) - there is no legend explaining how the diff size is measured (I know it's trivial, but it would be helpful for people who are not familiar with Wikipedia) - for RTL languages (Arabic, Hebrew) the diff size is displayed incorrectly in Safari (it's appended to the left and, when negative, the minus sign is wrongly positioned) HTH Dario On Jun 21, 2011, at 9:19 PM, Ed Summers wrote: > Thanks for the suggestions all (keep them coming). Thanks for the suggestions all (keep them coming). I added the ability to filter by language, as well by whether the edit was by a logged in user, an anonymous (IP) user, or a bot. This category, however, indeed shows redirects from articles without a diacritic to those with a diacritic ("The pages in this category are redirects to articles whose titles have diacritical marks.") Thanks for the find! The one that shows redirects for titles with a diacritic to one without a diacritic would be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Redirects_from_titles_with_diacritics ("Category:Redirects from titles with diacritics") This one has about 6,5k articles. Thanks for the categories, as imperfect as they are they are nonetheless quite useful to know about, and clearly show that Wikipedia does use diacritics much more often than not. -- Piotr Konieczny "To be defeated and not submit, is victory; to be victorious and rest on one's laurels, is defeat." --Józef Pilsudski ___ Wiki-research-l mailing list Wiki-research-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wiki-research-l

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Redirects_from_titles_without_diacritics I think this category is actually a list of redirect, from the diacritic-less spellings to the diacriticed actual articles. There's over 309 K redirects. Not sure though. [Wiki-research-l] Is use of diacritics common?
I wonder if anybody has studied the use of diacritics on Wikipedia? It is my experience that they are commonly used, but some editors are challenging that (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(use_English)&diff=next&oldid=435539278). I wonder if we have any data on that, or if somebody could create and run some form of query on the database (as I don't code, this is unfortunately beyond my capabilities). -- Piotr Konieczny PhD Candidate Dept of Sociology Uni of Pittsburgh http://pittsburgh.academia.edu/PiotrKonieczny/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Piotrus ___ Wiki-research-l mailing list Wiki-research-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wiki-research-l
