Problem with this is the unpredictability of parse times, which range from
milliseconds for small pages to tens of seconds for large pages.

[Bug 17845] DejaVu Sans font renders incorrectly in thumbnails

Note that, as far as I have seen, this happens with all images using DejaVu
Sans, and it happens after a certain level of thumbnailing (ie happens only for
thumbnails about 120px wide). See for example
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Serbia_roadmap.svg and
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Map_of_Nauru_topo-fr.svg.

[Bug 17930] New: Some account creations not apparent in CheckUser

AssignedTo: jschulz_4...@msn.com

When a user creates accounts while logged in, like in the example linked, these
account creations do not appear in CheckUser results. Checking the new accounts
shows no results, while checking the IP they were created from also does not
include these account creations (the only reason I know it is the right IP in
this case is because the [X accounts] note does work). Presumably, these
accounts should show up in the CheckUser results for the account creator, at
least, as it is their action.

result in losing it. The message should include instructions for reloading the

click.

--- Comment #4 from jida...@jidanni.org 2009-03-11 12:44:37 UTC ---
OK, found the BIG BUG. Big because it corrupts the database, in my eyes.

You know internal anchor links, like #Bla, #中文?

Well, the former is innocuous. However, it turns out the latter,
because it is Chinese, causes a (empty!) entry to be made in
wiki_pagelinks!

$ echo SELECT * FROM wiki_pagelinks WHERE pl_title = ;|mysql mydb
pl_from pl_namespacepl_title
22 0

(So that's why Wantedpages gets junk!)
(Happens at least on my $wgLanguageCode='zh-tw' wikis. Didn't test 'en').

[Bug 17934] New: Special:DoubleRedirects in a multi-redirect configuration

 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Special pages
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: russb...@hotmail.com

Since r45973, it has been possible to configure a wiki to allow double- or
higher-level redirects, up to a maximum value given by $wgMaxRedirects. If
this variable is set to a value greater than 1, however,
Special:DoubleRedirects will show redirects that are valid under the wiki's
configuration. The special page should be fixed to show only those redirect
chains that exceed the maximum configured length, and probably should also be
renamed to Special:MultipleRedirects or something similar. The default
introductory text in Mediawiki:Doubleredirectstext should also be updated,
preferably incorporating the value of $wgMaxRedirects in the text, and
Mediawiki:Doubleredirects should be changed to Multiple redirects or
something similar.

The speeding up discussed above regards SELECT performance, not INSERT

MySQL?

I guess someone (me?) would have to see whether we actually have any SELECTs in
the code that would benefit from this additional UNIQUE index.

Screenshot from 1.1 SDK

On rendering any page, the Go button is wrapped to the next line after the
text box. It floats over the title and border of the search box. Rather ugly.

Happens on standard G1 build of Android and 1.1 SDK.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php and
http://radioscanningtw.jidanni.org/api.php
should say there at the top what version of the API they are.
That way one can know at a glance if they are different.

Indeed, also add a link to Special:Version.

Use api.php?version

P.S.,
 #REDIRECThttp://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php
This page is a soft redirect.

 Retrieved from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Api.php;
looks ugly in text browsers

That's not a software bug, but a Wikipedia issue. Go ahead and fix it, it's not

It should just work. Either using your username and password, or directly

Hi,

I installed MedaWiki 1.14 on my server. When I open the wiki after the
installation the mainpage ist displayed, but instead of About MyNewWiki it
says About {ITENAME} at the bottom of the page.

Here is an extract of my logfile:

[Wed Mar 11 15:42:38 2009] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] PHP Notice:
Uninitialized string offset: 0 in
//wiki/httpdocs/wiki/includes/parser/Parser.php on line 2181, referer:

Uninitialized string offset: 0 in
//wiki/httpdocs/wiki/includes/parser/Parser.php on line 2181, referer:
http://wiki..de/wiki/config/index.php

BUT when I open the loginpage About MyNewWiki is displayed correctly.

I also encounter some strange behavior when editing a page. The changes were
applied but the first character of some lines has been dleted ...??

The copyright notice under the edit inputfield isn't displayed properly either
(missing charactes and strange spaces...).

Any suggestions ?

Regards
CG

[Bug 17939] New: Add links to entries in categores.

2009-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17939

Summary: Add links to entries in categores.
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: CategoryTree
AssignedTo: dan...@brightbyte.de
ReportedBy: bugzilla.wikime...@publi.purodha.net
CC: bugzilla.wikime...@publi.purodha.net

When CategoryTree is installed, it could (possibly selectable via a global
setting)
add links to each entry of an existing category in all lists of categories.
Links should go to Special:CategoryTree/category-name

This would be most useful in Special:UncategoriezedCategories where all
possible
root categories are listed.

Entries in the Special:some-list-of-categories lists could thus be altered
from:

#. Category:Some-name

to:

#. Category:Some-name (tree)

for instance.

[Bug 17941] New: $wgMaxUploadSize doesn't work.

2009-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Keywords: easy
 Severity: minor
 Priority: Normal
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: robindi...@googlemail.com

The $wgMaxUploadSize setting only seems to be active if $wgAllowCopyUploads is
enabled. wgMaxUploadSize should work anyway because e.g. sometimes webservers
can't handle big pictures, so it must be possible to set the maximum upload
size down.

My suggestion is to replace /includes/specials/SpecialUpload.php line 1047:
$val2 = $wgAllowCopyUploads ? min( $wgMaxUploadSize, $val2 ) : $val2;

with

$val2 = min( $wgMaxUploadSize, $val2 );

.

I hope I am helpful. :-)

In order to help those creating a new wiki with a requirement to preload the
login IDs for an existing user set (e.g. within a company so they don't need
wiki IDs different than those on existing systems), please provide an API for
creating users.

This API should be disabled by default. One should have to explicitly enable
this to ensure that they have some notion what they are doing.

A whitelist (mandatory?) should be provided so that IPs (or domain names?) can
be specified as the only ones that can execute the API call. That allows the
wiki admin to run the API without enabling it for the world (of spammers).

This would be easier for many admins than trying to sort through the various
function calls and table updates that may be needed to create a user via a PHP
script.

On dewiki users sometimes get no search results if they set Hits per page in
their search preferences too high. But this is not reproducible, sometimes with
110 hits per page there are no results and sometimes with 1000 you get results
for the same search keyword. With
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spezial%3ASuchesearch=Thema+Geokoordinatenfulltext=Volltextsearchengineselect=mediawiki

It would be nice if the links under “Create a book” had tooltips with a
longer description of the action to be performed. Best solution would be to
have the tooltip content in MW messages.

A partial solution could be to add IDs to those links, so at least the tooltips
could be set using Javascript.

Thanks.

digits out of 54 tries. From this, I deduce that about 8% of the servers are
still old and haven’t been updated. Is that approximately correct?

In my opinion the hardcoded 2001-01-15T16:12:34 on Special:Preferences
should replace by the current local time. It is more useless to have a outdated
time at the place (the description is in code, but nobody know about that).
Show the current time is the best way to demonstrate the formats. The user can
interpreted the time.

--- Comment #2 from neph...@skyhighway.com 2009-03-11 21:53:24 UTC ---
This bug has been a problem on the wiki where I'm an admin (www.uesp.net),
because our site makes extensive use of content namespaces other than NS_MAIN.
I've implemented a code modification on our wiki that fixes this bug, and I
think it would be useful if the same fixes could be implemented in the core
mediawiki code. In my previous comment I uploaded a patch file that implements
all of the suggested changes.

I've added a new static function, Namespace::isContentQuery(), to Namespace.php
(basically just moving existing code in SpecialPopularPages.php into a
centralized function).
That function has then been added into the SQL queries of all relevant special
pages, basically just replacing page_namespace=.NS_MAIN with page_namespace
.Namespace::isContentQuery() . A few special cases where more than just one
line needed to be changed in the Specialxxx.php are:
* On SpecialPopularPages.php and SpecialShortpages.php existing redundant code
was removed.
* On SpecialUncategorizedpages.php, the default request was changed to be all
content pages (requested using NULL) instead of NS_MAIN
(Uncategorizedtemplates and Uncategorizedcategories still work properly)

These changes have been in place at UESP for a year now, so I'm confident that
they do work on a live wiki. If anyone would like to see the resulting code in
action, you can check some of UESP's special pages, i.e.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Special:Disambiguations
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Special:Lonelypages
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Special:Deadendpages
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Special:DoubleRedirects
The only caveat is that UESP is still running Mediawiki 1.10.0 (in part because
we have numerous code modifications like this that make upgrading unbearably
difficult, thus the interest in getting some of the modifications added to
mediawiki). However, the relevant code hasn't changed much since 1.10. The
attached patch was created for 1.14, and I did some basic tests on the 1.14
configuration to check that the changes work.

--- Comment #7 from jida...@jidanni.org 2009-03-11 23:44:39 UTC ---
The problem now is these null entries are still left in the database even
through runs of update.php.

So even though no new null entries will be added, the ones that got into the
database remain, so bug reports will come in from users who see the weird side
effects.

Therefore update.php needs to clean them up.

[Bug 17751] clean up null filenames from database by update.php

2009-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17751

--- Comment #8 from jida...@jidanni.org 2009-03-11 23:46:45 UTC ---
I.e., without cleaning them up via update.php, each page with the null entries
must be null edited by hand to correct the problem...
But of course the problem is not with the page at all.

[Bug 17949] New: Patch adding support to chose language and colorscheme to SyntaxHighlight_vim

2009-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17949

Summary: Patch adding support to chose language and colorscheme

vim
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW

vim filetype and colorscheme support

The attached patch is a simple (in keeping with the original extension)
modification to the SyntaxHighlight_vim plugin to allow chosing the vim
filetype and colorscheme using lang and colorscheme attributes in the
syntax tag.

The original author no longer maintains this extension, and requests that
patches be submitted here.

I realise this isn't in the correct component, but there isn't one for the
SyntaxHighlight_vim extension, and this is the closest match.

[Bug 17950] New: API boilerplate that doesn't knock stars around

2009-03-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17950

Summary: API boilerplate that doesn't knock stars around
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.15-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: trivial
 Priority: Normal
Component: API
AssignedTo: roan.katt...@home.nl
ReportedBy: jida...@jidanni.org
CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com, vasi...@gmail.com

Because the URL in the boilerplate gets linked, it is very likely to
knock the trailing stars around in different browsers (e.g., Firefox).

Therefore one should avoid trailing stars lest they not line up,
looking ugly.

OK, adding a patch to start internationalization.

I'm not sure if how I link is the best way etc.

And maybe this message shouldn't even appear if API is disabled via
LocalSettings, etc.

So feel free to reclose.

OK, I have figured it out, and made a patch. Otherwise it would be

As far as the Wikipedia problem, I will let it be.

Probably worth building into CentralAuth instead of enabling some random
extension.

The extension on the wiki appears to use shared user tables, which is not what
we use. We use the CentralAuth extension. Some kind of global preference would
be required. The extension is therefore not suitable for Wikimedia.
