It's fixed in the archive table where the MW 1.4 deleted revisions are.

However the undeleted edits to Clearwater River (Idaho) and Michael Collins
that I mentioned above are still corrupt. I tried deleting and undeleting them,
just in case, and that didn't fix the issue. I highly doubt there are many
other revisions with this problem.

I'm not sure of proper protocol here : whether to re-open this bug, or start a
new one ...

The cl_timestamp field has a clear definition that the software lives up to. If
you don't like that definition, you should ask for the field to be redefined or
for a new field to be added, not for a way to allow everyone to put random crap
into the field so it loses all meaning.

(In reply to comment #1)
There are various things in the API that use wfMsg[ForContent] and related
functions, so the localization cache is needed.

Still, this loading could be deferred to when wfMsg() is actually called, not
just for the API but for MW in general.

Moving to i18n component and reassigning to Tim.

The only way to fix it is to update each corrupted row in the database, e.g. by
adding manually gzip in the old_flags field. The problem is that it'd be very
difficult to find the affected revisions automatically.

If you view a filter without edit rights, the text fields are set to disabled.
At least on Firefox, this makes them hard to read and impossible to copy.
Setting to readonly (as with the text of protected pages) would be much more

Several of the skins use the PDF icon when links to PDF files are in the
content.

The PDF icon is however a non-free icon,
http://www.adobe.com/misc/linking.html, and thus should probably not be used
and shipped in the mediawiki software. A free alternative to the icon has been
developed, http://pdfreaders.org/graphics.en.html, but in my opinion, the icon
will be more confusing than useful to the readers atm, due to lack of
recognizability.

A more generic icon might be the best choice for the immediate future.

[Bug 20378] Have a method in the api to modify categoryadd timestamps

--- Comment #3 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2009-08-28 18:22:39 UTC ---
Since most of the problems being experienced are a result of a vandal blanking
a page, and then getting subsequently reverted, would the following scheme
work: If you have two revisions of the same page (one being the current
revision, the other being some previous revision), which both have the exact
same categories, make it possible for admins to set the cl_timestamp to the
revision date of the earlier revision. That way there isn't just random garbage
in the field, its value is a value that would have been valid at one point (In
essence admins would be able to revert the field to a previous value if the
categories are the same between the two revisions in question). Or is that
still not in line with the definition of the field?

Thanks for your consideration.

We should perhaps switch to using icons from the Gnome Desktop icons

Wikipedia Usability Initiative) have been using for the new wiki editing tools.

PDFs could be shown as a document icon.

It would be very useful to have original odp files of the presentations at
Wikimania, instead of having to ask them to the author (see logs): that will
impossible in the future, they should be there forever.
I suppose that a more restricted and smaller wiki like wikimania could have
such a configuration (as Internal does, for example).
Hope this suggestion make sense.

[Bug 20275] LIKE is completely broken for SQLite

  (In reply to comment #8)
appears to be a mysqlism, in SQLite it looks two times more sane:D

Then SQLite needs to do more overriding of escapeLike(). We should check
  how
other databases behave -- if MySQL is the odd one out, the base method
  should
  be changed.

Nope, PosgtreSQl also needs four. I was unable to find any mention for SQLite,
so minus point for poor documentation seems to go to SQLite (two points if the
 behaviour is actually different).

Results of
die(wfGetDb(DB_MASTER)-addQuotes(wfGetDb(DB_MASTER)-escapeLike('foo_bar'))):
* SQLite: 'foo\_bar'
* MySQL: 'foo\\_bar'

Both seem to work as inteneded (and produce the same results when run from
within MW). After further experiments in PhpMyAdmin I discovered that
SELECT * FROM page WHERE page_title LIKE 'M_in\\_P%'
works indistinguishable from
SELECT * FROM page WHERE page_title LIKE 'M_in\_P%'

Quirks mode against double-escaping?

Patch

PPCustomFrame_DOM (phase3/includes/parser/Preprocessor_DOM.php) derives from
PPFrame_DOM, but it is not properly initialized. PPFrame_DOM::expand() uses
$this-title, among other things, which is not set when a PPCustomFrame_DOM is
created. Similar issue exists with PPCustomFrame_Hash.

This makes custom frames almost unusable.

The attached patch fixes this problem, by calling the parent constructors in
order to correctly fill in the members of the base classes.

Marking as INVALID.

The PDF icon you are referring to - the one appearing at the end of *.pdf links
- was added in Mediawiki:Common.css by the enwiki community (look at the
section beginning '#content a[href$=.pdf].external' ...). The Monobook
default for PDFs is a generic document icon and that PDF icon is not included
with the Mediawiki software.

Beyond that, concerns about the icon should be resolved at enwiki
Mediawiki_talk:Common.css or other community pages.

Seems like ISO-8859-1 instead of UTF-8. I checked

[Bug 20275] LIKE is completely broken for SQLite

2009-08-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20275

--- Comment #14 from Aryeh Gregor simetrical+wikib...@gmail.com 2009-08-28
21:36:38 UTC ---
A simple test:

mysql SELECT '\\' LIKE '\\' AS a, '\\' LIKE '' AS b;
+---+---+
| a | b |
+---+---+
| 1 | 1 |
+---+---+
1 row in set (0.03 sec)

sqlite SELECT '\\' LIKE '\\' AS a, '\\' LIKE '' AS b;
1|0

So the double-escaping is wrong for SQLite. I don't have any of the other
supported DBMSes handy to test with.

Marking this INVALID. Error with custom site extension (nothing's listed on
http://wiki.alliedmods.net/Special:Version, so it's not one from our SVN ones).

To the reporter: I suggest talking to your site administrators and tell them
that their plugin needs to check that a username is a valid Title object (pass
the usernames to Title::newFromText()) before attempting a login. As comment #1
notes, [] is invalid in titles (and thus usernames) in MediaWiki.

[Bug 19153] Enable dng uploads on Commons

2009-08-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19153

--- Comment #10 from Darxus dar...@chaosreigns.com 2009-08-29 01:41:25 UTC

Compatible with existing software?

There is no linux image editing software that supports dng.

OpenEXR, in sharp contrast to DNG, is an open standard, with BSD licensed
libraries and viewers from the creator. Who happens to be Industrial Light and
Magic. It's what their movies get rendered in. (And it's more than capable of
conversion from raws with no loss of bit depth / precision.)

There's a Photoshop plugin for OpenEXR. Cinepaint supports it.

I suggest ignoring DNG, with its color space imprecision and licensing issues,
and supporting OpenEXR.

--- Comment #12 from Derrick Coetzee d...@moonflare.com 2009-08-29 04:15:14

OpenEXR is nice, but it was designed by ILM primarily for digital rendering.
The idea of using it to represent camera raw image files is speculative at
best, and there are no existing converters as far as I know from any
proprietary camera raw format to OpenEXR, which makes that idea completely
untenable. The developers on the OpenEXR list even recommended the use of DNG
instead of OpenEXR (e.g. see this thread:
http://www.mail-archive.com/openexr-de...@nongnu.org/msg00722.html). DNG is
designed specifically for this purpose, has mature supported converter tools,
and an open specification; and there is at least one DNG converter for Linux
available, Digikam (http://www.digikam.org/drupal/node/373). Just as
importantly, all DNG files are valid TIFF files, which can be read by any
application supporting TIFF (although they'll look dark and not too pretty).
