Bugzilla truncated my comment when I tried to include the 4-byte Unicode character in it. Trying again with the actual characters removed: The title is valid UTF-8, and consists of 63 repeats of the 4-byte character U+28B81 followed by the 3-byte character U+5583. My browser can't display the first character, but Googling for it led me to [[Prince of Tang (Shaowu)]] where it is used in the subject's personal name and discussed in a footnote. The second character apparently means "keep talking, chattering; mumble" according to http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E5%96%83 Ps. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26612 Summary: Regression: Postgres cannot install Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.17 Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: ASSIGNED Keywords: postgresql Severity: blocker Priority: Normal Component: Database AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: innocentkil...@gmail.com CC: g...@turnstep.com, overlo...@gmail.com, m...@everybody.org Blocks: 26611 I'm aware this regression is a result of the massive refactoring I and others have done for new-installer. However, I need help from the postgres guys on moving DatabasePostgres::initial_setup() to the new-installer format (using callbacks similar to MysqlInstaller's setupUser). As best I can tell, this function does a few major things (and is called twice): * Uses the superuser to create the less-privileged user that will access the database (this should copy MySQL's setupUser, although maybe at a different stage) * Creates the database/schema and assigns the user (PostgresInstaller::setupDatabase() should be updated to include this) * Sets up ts2 if needed (am I correct in remembering this is old and probably won't be needed much longer?) * Setup Plpgsql if needed * A few other minor tweaks (date format, timezone, etc) These steps should be split out into functions in PostgresInstaller and added as callbacks to the correct stops in the install steps. I didn't assign this to anyone, but this should be considered a blocker to the 1.17 release. [Bug 26607] Allow disabling of create protection

Unlike edit, move, upload and any custom restriction types, it's not applied to existing pages but to titles. For this reason, its implementation is completely (? at least mostly) separate from other protection types.
