 Definitely doing this in 1.18 after the 1.17 release ships (I probably
 should've done this before branching, but too late now)

I don't think it's too late, we still haven't released RC1.

--- Comment #5 from Adam Wight s...@ludd.net 2011-02-21 09:17:54 UTC ---
Thanks to Max Semenik for some good ideas--most of his suggestions are
corrected in the attached files. A new pseudo-driver DatabaseBz2 can be
configured as either the primary or the fallback data source.

However, a mediawiki bug (or my error) is preventing the retrieved article from
being displayed when this extension is set as the secondary, and the primary db
cannot open a connection. Strange. The workaround is to change the db
insertion at the end of Offline.php from
$wgDBservers[] = array(
to a replacement:
$wgDBservers[0] = array(

Have fun!

-Adam

3. to cancel the dialog that appears.

In the Japanese Wikipedia, reported the same.

I have confirmed the Japanese version and English version of Wikipedia.

[Bug 23433] Load site js before gadgets

--- Comment #1 from Mizusumashi mizusuma...@coda.ocn.ne.jp 2011-02-21
10:34:52 UTC ---
I'm sorry, but I disagree with Jimmy. I think loading site common.js after
gadgets is better. Loading user scripts and gadets before site common.js is
best.

I want to detect witch gadgets and/or user setteings in site common.js.
Jimmy's oder makes this detection impossible. On the other hand, hooking
gadget's real code by site common.js is not so difficult even in the current
order.

Gadget A:
  var gadget_a_enable = true;

Gadget B:
  function gadget_b_hook () {
  // whatever you want
  }
  if(typeof commonHook == 'undefined'){
   commonHook = new Array();
  }
  commonHook[commonHook.length] = gadget_b_hook;

site commn.js ([[MediaWiki:Common.js]]):
  if(typeof gadget_a_enable != 'undefined'  gadget_a_enable){
  // ... if Gadget A is enable...
  }else{
  // ... if Gadget A is disable ...
  }

  if(typeof commonHook != 'undefined'){
  for(var i = 0; i  commonHook.length; i++){
  commonHook[i]();
  }
  }

I think, anyone can say But, even in Jimmy's oder, detection gadgets in 'real'
code of common.js is not so diffcult too:

Gadget A:
  var gadget_a_enable = true;

site commn.js ([[MediaWiki:Common.js]]):
  $(document).ready(function ($){
  if(typeof gadget_a_enable != 'undefined'  gadget_a_enable){
  // ... whatevet I want ...
  }
  });

But I need to say, $(document).ready somtime makes waiting for long time. Of
course, if you want or need to wait that the document is ready, this is a good
way. But this long time lag is not fine in some case.

we tried with ‘Pramukh Type Pad’ firefox add-on and it failed.
the reason is, that it is not recognizing the editable divs as editable area.
On text-areas and textbox it works good.

We have started investigating on the issue.

Meanwhile people can try the below language input tool:

We have global expert users that can help local sites with issues like this
btw.

They are in the global editinterface group, specifically, so that they can edit
local MediaWiki interface messages, scripts and css, for sites that don't have
(anymore) their own expert maintainers of this stuff:

I see the group is a bit terse though. We might need a few more.

  Thank you very much for your explanations! I tried that link, but it
  auto-morphed to http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Especial:MyCSS/common.css and
  told
  me in Espanol that the special page doesn't exist. I tried changing es to
  en, but it just did the same thing and told me in English that the special
  page does not exist.
 My fault. The link should have been
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MyPage/common.css

There's a godsend! One of my editing challenges was to have to change to the
monobook skin (now vector skin) with some of my edits to make sure they looked
okay in the general-user skin. Now I can edit in vector. The first code
yields white top and left margins, while the second code spreads the pastel
green to the TOP, while the left margin becomes a bright, emerald green. It'll
take a little gettin' used to, but I think I can live with that. Thank you
very much, Platonides, more than words can say!

[Bug 23433] Load site js before gadgets

2011-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23433

--- Comment #2 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-02-21 15:16:15 UTC ---
The way I address this in mwEmbed is through a series of bind and triggers
which give you both temporal loading flexibility and fine grain extendability
of components.

Bind and triggers are a pefered way for javascript to extend and interact it
offers features like ( name spacing, binding undefined target names, and with
utility functions like triggerQueueCallback, blocking triggers.
http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/MwEmbedSupport/MwEmbedModules/MwEmbedSupport/jquery/jquery.triggerQueueCallback.js

All the code that is loaded on every page is loader code. These loaders
define interface entry points and setup up global bindings. For example see how
timedText extends the embedPlayer interface :

http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/TimedMediaHandler/MwEmbedModules/TimedText/TimedText.loader.js

and the mwEmbed loader:

http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/TimedMediaHandler/MwEmbedModules/EmbedPlayer/EmbedPlayer.loader.js

Hopefully the example is not too specific to the video player context. The
basic point is we should have defined points of extending things so the order
in which things are loaded does not matter as much ( as long as all the loader
/ binding code is loaded before the page ready or SetupInterfaces event is
fired. And all the triggers happen after page ready

$(document).ready should NOT mean waiting for a long time. It is fired once the
dom is ready not all the images in the page are loaded. A SetupInterfaces
and IntefacesReady event could also be used but in practice it happens almost
the same time as DOM ready ( since you want to give every loaded javascript a
chance to bind to that event before you trigger it ) ... So if you don't need
more complicated interface state control $(document).ready works just as well.

No, 16448 is about adding a means for finding the {{DEFAULTSORT:sort key}}
within wikicode on the same page (such as in templates). This request is about
making a {{DEFAULTSORT:}} affect the talk page as well as the page upon which
it is placed. So, the {{DEFAULTSORT:Burrell, Charles}} on

The body, #mw-head { background: rgb(187,221,187) } version looks IMHO better
in monobook, as it keeps the borders there. You could add a border to vector if
you wanted, In fact, you could fully customize the page using your personal
CSS. It is a matter of writing normal CSS used in the web.

You're welcome :)

 What about the article count? Why did it decrease?

The pages with '#yünältü' are not detect as redirects by MediaWiki (due the
software update). That is why there were broken and the edits from the bot are
detect as a change from article ('#yünältü') to a redirect ('#REDIRECT') and
MediaWiki decrease the article counter by 1 for each edit.

The wiki needs a refresh of the article counter. I do not know, if that is
possible.

On pressing the login link, the word login is grey and partially obscured
(ogin), password is grey and completely visible. Attempting to put the
text cursor focus on the login field causes both fields to go blank white and
the focus goes immediately to the password field. After this, you cannot put
focus on the username field.

Thinking because the field seemed mis-sized, I changed the zoom and text size
to normal, but this had no effect.

[Bug 27528] JS minification still outputs incorrect javascript for some input

New minifier which takes the division/regexp conflict into account

(In reply to comment #6)
 This has unbalanced parentheses, but the issue you point our (division
Copy'n'Paste fail. Sorry for that :)

 This one is so devious that even Douglas Crockford's JSMin falls for it :O

Right, JSMin makes a fair amount of assumptions about the code that it will
minify.

 I'm interested. I'm also willing to port it to PHP myself if you give me the C
 code and release it under a free license.
Well, usually it's easier to port code that you wrote yourself, so I went ahead
and made the attached patch. It seems, that even in php, its performance is
quite good, in most tested cases it was about the same speed or slightly faster
than JavascriptDistiller.

For now I removed $wgResourceLoaderMinifyJSVerticalSpace. As the new minifier
knows when semicolon insertion will be triggered, it can safely put everything
on a single line. For readability it may be considered to add a few newlines,
though, maybe before each function?

I left JavaScriptDistiller.php in place to ease comparing and testing. I also
added a few test cases in
tests/phpunit/includes/libs/JavaScriptMinifierTest.php, probably need a few
more, though.

[Bug 27544] SVG images that are invalid XML no longer rendered

2011-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27544

--- Comment #18 from Brion Vibber br...@pobox.com 2011-02-21 18:18:05 UTC ---
I got a little lost reading the backscroll here, but let me just summarize the
expected behavior:

* invalid[1] SVG file MUST be rejected on upload
* invalid[1] SVG file that's already existing SHOULD be rejected from
rendering, but if it does render it's not the end of the world.

[1] by invalid I mean one or more of the following is true:
* not well-formed XML (ie, any error is thrown by XML parser)
* not well-formed namespaces (ie, an error is thrown by namespace-aware XML
parser about inconsistent or undeclared namespaces)
* root element isn't svg with expected namespace
* anything in the file violates our generic or SVG-specific safety checks

Non-rendering of broken files is not a bug; it's expected behavior. Affected
files should be fixed.

New files being uploaded that do not pass the validation checks *is* a bug, if
it's happening. Failure to live through our XML/SVG-specific checks MUST NOT be
overridden by some other generic check.

(In reply to comment #18)
 Failure to live through our XML/SVG-specific checks MUST NOT be
 overridden by some other generic check.

The best way to fix this is to split the valid and wellformedness check.
Wellformed but invalid XML should be marked application/xml.

Unwellformed and invalid XML should never be marked application/xml or any XML
subtype, even of if the PHP file info extension recognizes it as such.

[Bug 27054] JS minification bug in ResourceLoader: ambiguous implied end of statement at end of file can break parsing of subsequent file

2011-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Proposed patch: Add a semicolon to each script before combining

The fix is quite simple: Every script has to end in a statement anyway, so just
add a semicolon after each file, which is in the worst case superfluous, but
only adds 1 byte per module to the output.

The filearchive table does not store the username for the deleted_user id.

The table ipblocks stored the username of the admin in ipb_by_text, why does
filearchive does not store the username of the admin?

Oh, thank you for explanation.

What should we do to restore previous article count? It is very important for
our community, because we lost ~13% of articles, participants are a little
unhappy with that fact, we have a goal to complete 10 000 this year.

Is there a way to count the articles (it wouldn't take much time, they are
~8000) in Tatar Wiki and update the counter?

Thank you for your help

[Bug 27618] New: Backup dumps could contain a title index

There are several readers available for mediawiki xml.bz2 dumps, some able to
read the native format, and others which transform the data.

All suffer from there not being an index into this data. It is a major barrier
to development and adoption by users.

The simplest remedy would be to register a dump filter which creates a text
file mapping article title - byte offset. If this is done during the backup
process, there is almost no resource overhead.

I can write a patch if other developers agree this would be a worthwhile
pursuit.

Looking at the tables running on WMF, old revisions don't have log_user_text,
but newer revisions do.

Doing this would require the action of back populating the logging table
(populateLogUserText.php)...

It also might require the populateLogSearch.php script running...

Needs a little more research before we can take this one any further

This works fine for MediaWiki itself so I'm not sure you can call it a bug.

Just a terminology clarification: what we're checking for well-formedness here
including the namespaces is called namespace-well-formedness, and is again
not related to what XML terms validity, which we never check for.

I was thinking that perhaps it's time to remove the format missing links as
link? option

1: It's ancient
2: few people probably still use it (let's not count users who haven't edited
in the past 3 years).
3: It's a confusing option in your prefs, if you are a n00b.
4: we can create gadgets or provide users with a css example for their
common.js for those who insist
5: it's ancient.

[Bug 27620] New: Edit toolbar loads siginficiantly slower with the Resource loader or BannerLoader

2011-02-21 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27620

   Summary: Edit toolbar loads siginficiantly slower with the
Resource loader or BannerLoader
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.17
  Platform: PC
   URL: http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/no-page-here?action=edit
OS/Version: Windows 7
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Resource Loader
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: e...@wp.pl
CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com

Steps:
1. Open an example page (I'm using pl.wiki because you can't edit a page on
en.wiki while not logged in)
2. Reload the page (normal reload).

Results:
Page loads significantly slower then with 1.16.

Expected results:
Should load faster (as RL is on now).

This is more significant in Firefox 3.6 then in 4.0 or in Opera 11, but I can
still start editing before the page is loaded and only when the page is loaded
the toolbar loads. This causes loose of focus and cursor position.

The page loads for about 6-9 seconds (as measured by Firebug) and there are 2-3
gaps in a net tab before loading the following resources:
http://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Api.jsaction=rawctype=text/javascript
http://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Specjalna:BannerListLoadercache=/cn.jslanguage=plproject=wikipediacountry=PL
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:BannerLoaderbanner=WMPL_Wikimedia_Polska_Conferenceuserlang=pldb=plwikisitename=Wikipediacountry=PL

So the problem might be BannerLoader related (api usually loads faster). The
server seems to always respond with 200 rather then 304 for those two. Not sure
why it is needed (if it is). JS should be loaded just once and some random
banner should be loaded but the response for the loaded banner should always be
304. And I'm sure both should not be loaded if the banner is hidden.

User creation is done inside maintenance/users.sql using GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES
ON
$db TO $wgDBuser IDENTIFIED BY $pass;

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/grant.html
 When the IDENTIFIED BY clause is present and you have global grant
 privileges,
 the password becomes the new password for the account, even if the account
 exists and already has a password. With no IDENTIFIED BY clause, the account
 password remains unchanged.

It should instead use CREATE USER where An error occurs if the account already
exists. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/create-user.html

If the CREATE USER for any of the three accounts already exist, it should
abort.

It could still mask a user with the same name but different host, but manually
performing queries to mysql.user doesn't look nice (we should at least skip any
error on doing so).

[Bug 27622] New: Setup internal wikis as https only

From wikitech-l thread:

Private wikis should require HTTPS by default.

Roughly this would need;
* Setup a server for this role and give it an external ip.
* Configure to answer https: with the star certificate and then perform the
normal wiki routing.
* Redirect http to https.
* Change usage of bits load.php to the local one (avoid mixed content warnings
and protect against active attackers).
* Change the dns records to the new ip.
* Profit!

No need for caching layer in front of it, as anonymous users can't read it. If
there were, $wgCookieSecure may need to be manually set.

Although maybe we should define a subset of SVG using our own DTD, excluding
script elements and attributes, and test for validity using that DTD. That
would be a very easy way to do whitelist-based security, which makes me feel
happier than the current blacklist-based approach. Are we really sure that all
JS-activating attributes start with on, and that no element will allow script
if it's not named script? (But that's a separate issue.)
