[Bug 22911] Default "sort key" for namespaces should be more customizable
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22911 --- Comment #6 from Bawolff 2011-07-06 01:03:09 UTC --- Ok, a hook was added in MediaWiki 1.19 (see bug 29680 and r91510), which means this is easily do-able with a 4 line extension. Is there still concensuss for this? and what is the exact algorithm wanted here. The mediawiki namespace message thing is unlikely to happen, because that'd require some extra coding to make all the pages re-sort themselves whenever anyone edited it (do-able, but unless people are super attached to the idea I don't really plan to code that atm). However, It'd be very easy at this point to say: Sort by subpage by default for anything in main namespace, otherwise sort by pagename. Or sort by subpage for any namespace with subpages enabled, or just strip the stuff before the first /, etc. Anyways, what exactly is the algorithm wanted? (As another note, currently the hook is in 1.19 which is still a while away from reaching Wikimedia wikis. If people really really want this feature, it might be possible to backport the hook since its such a small change, I'm not really sure how that normally works) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 29726] New: On some pages all js-messages are broken
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29726 Web browser: --- Bug #: 29726 Summary: On some pages all js-messages are broken Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.17 Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: ASSIGNED Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Resource Loader AssignedTo: krinklem...@gmail.com ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com, tpars...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified On some pages in *WebKit-browsers*, such as : http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Mdupont&oldid=56180692 ... all js-messages are broken (, etc.). However they are loaded fine and in mw.messages. The problem is caused by .exists() returning false incorrectly. Map.prototype.exists (1.17wmf1): function ( selection ) { if ( typeof keys === 'object' ) { for ( var s = 0; s < selection.length; s++ ) { if ( !( selection[s] in this.values ) ) { return false; } } return true; } else { return selection in this.values; } } It incorrectly refers to "keys" instead of "selection" so it will fail for multi-message calls which pass an object. But single-message calls (99.9% of cases) should still work fine, and usually they do. However on the linked Commons-page even single messages are failing. > Google Chrome: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=56180692 > mw.msg('showtoc') > Root cause ? Obviously the root cause is the function checking the wrong variable, but single-message calls should work fine (which was the reason the fixing part of r80572 wasn't backported, core nor any extension used it). But on this page there is a ( == Keys == ), and in WebKit browsers references to elements by ID are in the window object / global namespace. so window.keys === (an object, instance of Element). All this weirdness was fixed as part of r80572. Although initially not considered worth a backport, I think we should consider and actually backport to 1.17 and 1.17wmf1 as currently: * requesting multiple messages in any browser * requesting single messages in Chrome on some pages .. does not work and results in breakages of all messages on the page. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 29680] Cannot sort pages of different namespaces properly on category pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29680 --- Comment #9 from Aryeh Gregor 2011-07-05 22:18:31 UTC --- (In reply to comment #5) > You're not playing fair here. I gace reasons above. My article links using > icons globally and 2 columns instead of 3 are no category based hacks and not > related to this bug report... They are related. Your categories aren't broken up into sections according to first letter. If they were, then you'd have one section per category for categories that consist only of non-main space pages. This is as I explained. For instance, look at this category: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:User_he-1 It consists entirely of User: pages. It's automatically split up into sections based on the first letter of the page name. Formerly, unless users overrode the sortkey on every single page, every page in the category would be under "U" for "User:". This is bad, and people were forced to work around it by manually overriding millions of sortkeys. This isn't a problem for you, but only because you hacked the software to not show the letters for the sections. If you hadn't hacked the software, the change would have benefited you too. > Really? No way I will do this. That's not a solution. > I have over 16,000 categories and I won't{{#defaultsort:{{PAGENAME to them > and tell my users to add this for no reason in the future. I'm telling you that when it *didn't* work this way, everyone on Wikipedia *did* have to add or similar to millions of pages. That's why I changed it. We're not going to change it back and cause more work for everyone on Wikipedia to save work for you. We also shouldn't add a preference for something where the only reason you'd want to change it is if you hacked MediaWiki, IMO. > Instead, I now ask where the advantage is in sorting the namespace letter? I already told you in comment #4, but maybe my explanation here is clearer. (In reply to comment #7) > I propose adding a hook to Title::getCategorySortkey so that people can > override the $unprefixed = $this->getText() line. This would address both this > and bug 22911. The only downside to this is that whenever changing the > algorithm used by the hook or enabling/disabling one would have to run > updateCollation.php --force . Any thoughts? That sounds reasonable to me. The Wikibooks use-case makes sense, and this seems like a good way to address it. [Bug 29723] New: mw.util.wikiGetlink() should defaults to the current page name
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29723 Web browser: --- Bug #: 29723 Summary: mw.util.wikiGetlink() should defaults to the current page name Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Keywords: easy Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Javascript AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: mybugs.m...@gmail.com CC: tpars...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified Created attachment 8744 --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8744 Example Currently, if a user calls mw.util.wikiGetlink()[1] on Example it will be returned "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/undefined"; which is not very useful. Considering that it is common[2] to have constructs like mw.util.wikiGetlink( mw.config.get( 'wgPageName' ) ) + '?foo=bar&baz=meh' I propose the addition of wgPageName as a default value for the "str" parameter of this function, so that users coudl then use mw.util.wikiGetlink() on Example to get "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Example"; [1] http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/phase3/resources/mediawiki/mediawiki.util.js?view=markup#l134 [2] See e.g.: MediaWiki:Gadget-purgetab.js, pt:MediaWiki:Common.js, s:MediaWiki:Common.js, etc... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. From IRC: the image/thumb purge issues may be multicast issues which have to do with our broken routers as you might recall last time we had a flare up mark upgraded and rebooted those and we were ok for awhile anyways new ones are on order, they are simply old so, what is the ETA on the new ones? mark's gonna try to find out about it they have to be custom built I guess, they are junipers we talked about it in the ops meeting he didn't know there was another round of issues and I had forgotten about the routers being bad. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
