[Bug 28613] Some thumbnails [or squid cache of them] weren't purged when new version of file uploaded.

2011-07-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28613

--- Comment #48 from Paulo Perneta 2011-07-10 07:12:00 UTC
---
This issue is not resolved at all and is causing significant disruption at
Commons.

See for instance:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Blocks_and_protections#Protection_of_File:Political_Regions_of_Sudan.2C_July_2006.svg

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#Help:_I_cant.27t_restore_original_File:LocationSouthernSudan.svg

These situations are of particular significance, since it took only one user
uploading once the wrong version of one file to start a "edit war" with a lot
of users trying in good faith to revert it back to the original image. This is
bond to happen again and again and again, and is wasting a lot of server space,
since each time a file is reverted it is uploaded again to the servers.

It's also forcing the files to be moved to new names in order to bypass that
bug, creating unnecessary redirects and name replacements in the projects using
those files, and making the file log quite hard to follow, since deleted
revisions are left behind each time the file is moved.

Please solve this bug as soon as you can, it is really damaging the project.

Paulo

By the way, this problem is not only about thumbnails. In the cases presented
above, as well as in many others, the actual file failed to update, while the
thumbnails themselves updated. The situation with this bug is now worse than it
has ever been.

Is there at least a workaround available? Restart a server every Sunday?

In the meantime a hint should be placed on Commons, that there is a known
problem with replacing images! Otherwise people are getting frustrated more and
more. There are endless discussions on Wikipedia and Commons every day, because
most users don't know about that bug.

I agree, it should be in the site notice, indeed. I don't know how to do it or

ArticleFeedback is still in beta. From what I understand it will not be enabled
on other wikis untill it's course, functioning and goal is more permanently
defined.

As soon as the tool is in a more permanent state it will be finalized to be
more friendly in internationalization, wiki-independent and right-to-left
compatible. Right now it is very much oriënted and developed for the English
language as used on the English Wikipedia.

It seems pretty simple and straightforward to me to allow the renaming of
category pages. (This has nothing to do with pages using these category names)
Implementing a right restricting the access to category page rename is just the
same as implementing any other right.

Summary: It should be easy.

[Bug 29799] New: Pages incorrectly ordered in categories

   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Categories
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: gsv...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

Some pages like [[en:Sticks and Bones (film)]] and [[en:Bill Gates]] are
incorrectly sorted in their categories. See for example
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:American_films&pagefrom=Szz
which incorrectly shows Sticks and Bones (film). This seems to caused by
incorrect cl_sortkey in the categorylinks table: the contents of the column are
not all uppercase for those articles. Also, cl_collation is an empty string for
those pages.

My assumption is that during the change to the current case-insensitive
sorting, some pages weren't updated for some reason.

Doing purge or null edit of the affected pages doesn't seem to fix the issue.

[Bug 2930] Edit history is based on timestamp while diff prev/next links are based on revision id

2011-07-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2930

--- Comment #20 from Mark Clements (HappyDog) 2011-07-10
18:40:17 UTC ---
I don't think it's relevant whether the timestamps are right or wrong. There
will be valid reasons where sorting by ID and by timestamp give different
results (e.g. transwiki imports, or article merges). The problem is that the
sorting is done by timestamps in one place (revision list), and IDs in another
('diff with previous' link).

All sorting of revisions should be done by timestamp, then ID, in all cases.
This would remove inconsistencies within the various user interfaces where
revisions are displayed/used.

Problems on the cluster that result in incorrect timestamps (if they exist) are
a completely separate issue, and should be handled by a different bug.

No event listeners for #searchInput on ptwikisource

Go to [[wikisource:pt:Main page]] and to also [[Main page]] and compare the
result of following these steps:
* Go to the main page
* Click on the search box
* Type "a"
On:
* [[Main page]]: some suggestions are displayed
* [[wikisource:pt:Main page]]: nothing happens
I've tested this both signed in/out, in both secure and unsecure servers, and
both on Chromium 12.0.742.112 (90304) Ubuntu 11.04 and Firefox 5.0.

When the event listeners of the #searchInput element are inspected on Chromium:
* [[Main page]]: has some events
* [[wikisource:pt:Main page]]: has no events

I didn't find the cause on the local [[MediaWiki:Common.js]], but it is likely
to be there, since other wikisources doesn't have the same problem.

[Bug 29797] With subpages disabled for user pages, I get error: "Tried to load block with invalid type"

Created attachment 8767
  --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8767
Working patch

The callback indicates that MW is running a quick check on the user who "owns"
the page to decide if it should be indexed or not by search bots (because the
user viewing the page could be a search bot).

Since subpages are now turned off, MW assumes that the user "owning" the page
is called "Robin/subpage".

As usernames should never contain a forwards slash, it should be simple enough
to check for the presence of a forwards slash, and, if it is found, conclude
that the username being passed is in fact not a username at all but an old
subpage. The correct username can then be extracted.

This is what the attached patch does.

OK, Lejonel. I didn't actually count the 70 - I just counted the 130, out of (I
assumed) 200. I can confirm that null edits do work, and that new pages that
are tagged with a CSD do not show early. As you say, there must have been some
error that day. Time for 100 null edits then...

[Bug 29803] New: File usage information on Commons is not displaying all instances from other projects

all instances from other projects

  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Interwiki links
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: baltosla...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

When the Wiktionaries went case-sensitive, the file usage checking from Commons
became case-sensitive. However, the case-sensitivity on Wiktionaries applies
only internally, and does not apply when an external link is made to another
project. In particular, links from a Wiktionary to files on Commons are not
case-sensitive because the link is made to a case-insensitive project.

As a result, Commons file usage information only displays some of the instances
of a file used on the Wiktionaries. For example, File:La-cls-discipulus.ogg is
used on the English Wiktionary, but its page on Commons says "There are no
pages that link to this file."

Commons should realize that links made to it from *any* project are de facto
case-insensitive because it is itself case-insensitive.

See also https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28650 and r86698 in
which this module was created.

r91844 added a test suite exposed a bug.

jquery.byteLimit is preventing characters to be added as soon as
byteLength(currentValue) + 3 is more than the given limit.

Consider the following scenarios:

byteLimit: 10
input: "123456890123456890" (20 chars, 20 bytes)
result: 8 chars
expected: 10 chars ("1234567890")

The last 2 characters were incorrectly prevented from insertion.

byteLimit: 14
input: "1234567890€1234567890€" (22 chars, 26 bytes; contains two euro-symbols
of 3 bytes each)
result: 13 chars
expected: 14 ("1234567890" + "€" + 1)

The last one was incorrectly prevented.

byteLimit: 12
input: "1234567890€1234567890€"
result: 10 chars
expected: 10 ("1234567890". as the next 3-byte "€" would exceed the limit)

This third scenario is the only one correctly passing.

When using WikiLove from another page it redirects to the user-talk page.
When already on the user-talk it reloads since reload doesn't happen when only
the hash tag changes.

This code is at [0].

The bug occurs when using WikiLove from the user-talk page, but not in the
'view' action. (most noticeably action=history, but action=delete and
action=protect as well)

b: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.6.2.js

I don't see anything that could affect our core modules. They fixed a bunch of
bugs though, which is cool.
I've also checked a few common extensions in my trunk checkout (CodeReview,
WikiEditor, Vector, WikiLove, ArticleFeedback) in source code to see if
anything would likely break there, didn't find any.

The QUnit test suite still the same before and after.

Fixed in r91845.

Note that the bug also occurs when the action is 'view' but we viewing an older
version of a talk page.

Steps to reproduce:
* Go to a user talk page with WikiLove-enabled
* Use the WikiLove dialog to send WikiLove
* Notice how it reloads and you're still viewing the old version of the page

(The following might be really stupid and wrong) We use some sort of networked
file system for where all the thumbs live right? Is it possible something is
wrong with the networked file system such that when mediawiki deletes the
files, it deletes it on the local server, but the changes don't get propagated?
That's the only thing I could think of that would make sense in light of
comment 46.

[Bug 29807] New: Special:PasswordReset listed on Special:SpecialPages when Authplugin allowPasswordChange() is false

Created attachment 8770
  --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8770
Patch includes/specials/SpecialPasswordReset.php

This check is currently done in userCanExecute, but that function performs
other unrelated checks and throws an exception when any occurs.

SpecialPageFactory would call userCanExecute before listing the page, but
PasswordReset is (rightfully) not "restricted". Even if SpecialPageFactory was
modified to call userCanExecute in all cases, the current implementation in
PasswordReset (and possibly other special pages) will throw an exception.

Therefore, I have implemented the fix by copying the appropriate checks into an
isListed override with return false used instead of exceptions.

Patch attached.
