The use of {{{field|free text}}} (instead of "standard input...") has been deprecated for a long time, and in recent versions I finally decided to no longer support it. [Bug 30192] Thumbnails of archived images don't get deleted
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30192 --- Comment #21 from Russ Nelson 2011-08-30 01:38:48 UTC --- There's also a mix of functions dedicated to *Archive* access, and OldLocalFile, which derives from LocalFile with functions that already know that they're accessing Archived files. A cleanup would eliminate the *Archive* functions ... but that also means creating a File any time you want to do anything to a file. And means calling RepoGroup::singleton()->getLocalRepo()->newFile($title); (with an additional time parameter if it's an archive file. And that means parsing the file at the ! to get the time to pass to newFile ... the complexity keeps piling up, all to simplify? I'm not so sure, but I also don't like the lack of regularity and lack of information hiding. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. But, what about non-English speaking users visiting a foreign wiki? They only know (as aforementioned users also do) their own-language page names. So, how are they supposed to access the desired local special page? This functions, used in their own wikis as a previous step, may bring them those "unknown" canonicals. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 10449 *** -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26499 --- Comment #14 from Ariel T. Glenn 2011-08-29 19:39:55 UTC --- Yeah, I'm familiar with seek-bzip2, but it didn't do what I needed for my use case. I wanted to be able to easily locate a given XML page in a dump file without an index. The gzip tool appears to read through the entire file (and then keep it in memory) for random access, something we wouldn't want to do for large files like the en wikipedia dumps. Another approach is to make each page a separate bzip2 stream; I haven't decided whether that's a good thing or not (and it too would require reworking a bunch of thiings that aren't designed to handle multiple streams). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30620 Web browser: --- Bug #: 30620 Summary: UploadCampaigns -- setting a new default license Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: any Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: UploadWizard AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: ne...@wikimedia.org CC: asha...@wikimedia.org, ne...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified There seem to be a few problems with the Upload Campaign licenses: 1 - If you choose a license as "default" but it isn't in the set of non-default licenses, then the submit button appears not to work. The reason why is that the default choice is implemented by selecting (behind the scenes) the option in the list of non-default choices. So, if you do this: Default license: A Non-default licenses: B, C, D It doesn't work. If you switch the view to the non-default licenses, then you'll see the red error message asking you to please select one. But if you do this: Default license: A Non-default licenses: A, B, C, D It should work. There is some attempt at dealing with this situation in the code but it would be better if it was just impossible for this to happen. 2 - For reasons I don't undertand, when we deployed it live, I couldn't make a campaign change the default license to anything but CC-BY-SA-3.0. The campaign config is stored correctly; something else is interfering. This triggers the bug described above. I did not see this behavior on testwiki. This is CRUCIAL to fix for WikiLovesMonuments. 3 - If the user tries to upload multiple files, they do have the option of giving them different licenses. In this situation, there is a license widget for every upload. The preference of which licenses to show (own work, not own work, or both) does not seem to carry through here. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17791 --- Comment #8 from Brion Vibber 2011-08-29 18:44:06 UTC --- Looks like fairly reasonablish code overall, but all this really needs a testing plan to confirm that it fixes the described bugs and doesn't cause regressions. Are bits like this code necessary? if( !imageinfo.thumburl ) { 44 // Unable to fetch a thumbnail, use the image without scaling and lie about its size 45 // This works only for non-paged files though 46 if ( mw.config.get( 'proofreadPageFilePage' ) == null ) { 47 height = ( quantizedWidth / fullWidth ) * fullHeight; 48 callback( imageinfo.url, quantizedWidth, height ); 49 } 50 } this seems to be redundant; per comments above, we should get back a thumburl entry whenever we've asked for a size, and we should always be asking for a size ("original size" may be unreasonably *huge* for some scans). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 26499] Include uncompressed size and other metadata in each dump file
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26499 --- Comment #12 from Ariel T. Glenn 2011-08-29 18:07:24 UTC --- (In response to comment 11) No they aren't but I have a C library that could be used to build such an index without a ton of work, for bzip2 files; specifically, there is a utility to find the offset to a block containing a specific pageID. Since 7z and gzip aren't block-oriented it's not possible to generate an index for those files. However, this feature is not as useful as you might think. For dump files that contain all revisions, it can take quite a while to locate a given pageID. That's because there are a few pages which, if the guesser happens to land in the middle of them, are ginormous (up to 163 GB) and take up to an hour to read through. If one prebuilt an index that mapped revision IDs to page IDs and kept this in memory, things could be speeded up a fair amount; alternatively one could work just with the current revisions. (In response to comment 9) Moving to xz will mean a rewrite of my bz2 library and utils and all the bits that rely on them, so that's not likely to happen until Dumps 2.0. (In response to comment 8) The easiest way to provide metadata of this nature is, like the md5 sums, to provide it in a separate file. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 14568] Create patroller and rollbacker group on Russian Wikisource
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14568 Ruslan changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED CC||rusli...@gmail.com Resolution|FIXED | --- Comment #4 from Ruslan 2011-08-29 17:57:57 UTC --- I have been systematizing wikis that allow their bureaucrats to remove sysop/bureaucrat rights. I found several anomalies. One of them is ru.wikisource. The problem is that I can find neither a bug where this change was explicitly requested nor a local discussion in ru.wikisource itself. (Even the local guidelines still say that bureaucrats can not remove sysop/bureaucrat rights.) It looks like this was set inadvertently when this bug was fixed 3 years ago. If I am wrong, please, point me to the bug where the change was requested. If I am right, I really do not known what to do. The unrequested change should probably be reverted (i.e. 'sysop', 'bureaucrat', removed from wgRemoveGroups => bureaucrat). On the other hand, 3 years have passed since this bug was closed. So, I would be surprised if your answer is 'no'. I still feel that I need to reopen this bug to clarify the situation. It's probably possible to make more use of MediaWikis native data handling though. There is some TODO in the code of the date handling class about that. Since the latest version, some MW parsing methods are used, so that's already a start of such changes. If anyone wants to tackle this, feel free I'd say. [Bug 30618] New: Desktop version fine on mobile UNTIL clicking "disable mobile view"
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30618 Web browser: --- Bug #: 30618 Summary: Desktop version fine on mobile UNTIL clicking "disable mobile view" Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Device compatibility AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: droid@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified With an original Droid with froyo, browsing via Opera Mobile, the default wikipedia view is an annoying scaled down mobile view, so I usually scroll down and click on "desktop view" to get the normal desktop view, which renders perfectly when accessed in that manner. After doing this many times, I decided to click on the button that purports to permanently disable the annoying mobile version. Strangely, after I did this, Wikipedia began to render as a different type of scaled-down mobile view, with the right side bar contents missing, the same as they are also missing in the prior mobile view, instead of the desktop view I requested, and there is no longer a link at the bottom to access the real desktop view. Since there was no problem viewing the normal desktop view when accessed by clicking the link at the bottom of the original mobile view, there is no good reason for an alternate mobile version to appear instead of the desktop view, after clicking on a request to disable mobile view. I should be taken directly to the full desktop view, not given a different version of the annoying scaled-down mobile view which omits the right side-bar images and tables. Fortunately I can use the Dolphin HD browser to cloak my smartphone as a desktop in order to get the good desktop view and buypass the annoying mobile re-directs on all websites. However, I wanted to bring this bug to your attention for the sake of those using Opera Mobile. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
