[Bug 28021] Migrate translation projects at Meta to the Translate extension
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28021 --- Comment #14 from aokomoriuta 2011-10-12 07:16:23 UTC --- I tried this extension on meta. I found one bug about a summary for translation. View below translation page's diff URL. This revision(oldid=2984676) makes translation from "Markup" into "マークアップ" (Japanese). https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Siebrand/Pagetranslation_test/ja&diff=next&oldid=2984673 But the summary for this revision says 'Created page with "特別ページ"', which doesn't match this revision's change. You can see there's the right summary 'Created page with "マークアップ"' on the old revision(oldid=2984673)'s, and 'Created page with "特別ページ"' must be on the next revision(oldid=2984686)'s. There seems to be one gap between the translation content and the summary. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
[Bug 30046] Adding possibility to get a different sidebar for logged in and not logged in users
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30046 --- Comment #3 from Paolo Benvenuto 2011-10-12 07:21:19 UTC --- CORRECTING MY PREVIOUS COMMENT. I hadn't understood clearly, you were referring to sidebar caching, while I meant article caching. I think things can be done at least in the case when $wgEnableSidebarCache isn't set, with the code: if ($wgEnableSidebarCache || $wgUser->isLoggedIn() && $wgTwoSidebars) $this->addToSidebar( $bar, 'sidebar' ); else $this->addToSidebar( $bar, $wgAlternateSidebar ); This code treats 'sidebar' (default) as the sidebar for logged in user; perhaps it's better to consider default sidebar that for not logged in user and $wgLoggedInSidebarName the sidebar name for logged in users. This way the code would become: if (! $wgUser->isLoggedIn() || $wgEnableSidebarCache || ! $wgTwoSidebars) $this->addToSidebar( $bar, 'sidebar' ); else $this->addToSidebar( $bar, $wgLoggedInSidebarName ); -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28021 --- Comment #15 from Siebrand 2011-10-12 08:10:52 UTC --- (In reply to comment #14) > There seems to be one gap between the translation content and the summary. That is probably the issue marked CRITICAL in comment 13. We're going to look into that, and before page translation can be used "for real", we should have this fixed. [Bug 31643] New: Upload preview thumb hangs Firefox

With large files, especially SVGs, Firefox will be unresponsive. If you select a large JPG to upload via http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload , there is a noticeable delay before the preview thumbnail appears in the source file box. If the file is a large SVG the delay is *much* longer. Firefox will not allow completion of the upload, or any other activity, until the thumb is generated. I'm using Firefox 7.0.1 on Windows XP, but other users have reported problems too: see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#SVG_uploads_hanging_in_Firefox . Disabling javascript in Firefox prevents the thumbnail generation, allowing upload as normal. IE does not have this issue at all - again because the preview thumbnail is not generated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 6672] EXIF orientation (rotation information from digital cameras) should be used in images

They were rare and we had a simple system for tagging them for a bot to rotate. Now all the bets are off, since most images in need of rotation only need the deletion of the EXIF tag. I have uploaded yesterday a dozen of images which show just fine on my windows machine and 25% of them show up on Commons rotated. At present I do not have any tools on my PC that follow EXIF tags so it is hard to find such images beforehand. I am uploading images for years and for time being they all look fine, but I expect that large fraction of them will self-rotate if re-rendered. I think this extension is a cure to non-existing illness and the side-effects of the cure messing up much more files than are helping. Well in theory, if you're rotating something, you should adjust all the rotation tags for complete correctness. Adjusting the XMP will never hurt anything As for if using XMP's tiff:Orientation should be removed from MediaWiki - Good question. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6672 --- Comment #50 from Saibo 2011-10-12 13:48:03 UTC --- (In reply to comment #48) > I think we should revert it. I would go for my suggestion "onepointfive" (see above). This would help users to rotate images. Currently the fully automatic rotation confuses people instead of help them. And: As we see in Bug 31637 it is totally arbitrary which metadata is used to rotate. There is no real standard, every program behaves different. If I create my own metadata standard will it be respected by MediaWiki, too? ;) → Images should be physically in a correct orientation! https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31643 --- Comment #2 from Brion Vibber 2011-10-12 16:12:49 UTC --- SVG is tricky because there's very little relation between the file size and the rendering complexity. A very very tiny SVG can sss things down in the extreme (especially if it applies filters) while a very large one might actually be very simple, with just a bunch of polygons that render fairly fast. Not really sure what's a good way to handle this from our end; in theory it's the browser engine's responsibility to deal with image decoding and it *ought not* block the UI while it works. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
